WHOOPS... LEGO Downtown Modular Building Part 2

I made a MISTAKE while working on modularizing the LEGO City Downtown set. It shouldn't be too hard to fix but I have no idea why it took me so long to realize lol. Either way, I managed to get a lot done! That includes a DJ booth, influencers pad, and the base construction for the second modular building.

The modular next to the vet/barber should have a stairwell or elevator so figs can actually get up to the other floors, and the back left corner of the hotel building would be a great spot for an elevator-even if it didn’t work it would nice to have a suggestion of one like in the daily bugle.

I agree. It really bothers me when minifigs can’t get to the upper floors.

+1 on the having access to upper floors issue. I don't care whether stairs or an elevator but som way to get there. Also the Hotel could be a capsule hotel Japan style.

The lack of ways to get from one floor to another, or just to access entirely, is something that I don't like with many of the modular models and sets. I understand the lack of need for it in play, and it allows more size for fun details in a very limited size set and, to be blunt, most sets are far too small for what they are, but for a city scape the lack of them is jarring.

Make the hotel a capsule hotel - would suit the futuristic theme and also take up less space.

Maybe the hotel should continue from the pedway into the now influencer room. that would make more sense than the hotel connecting into someone’s apartment. I’ve been in hotels where they connect buildings like that. You could put the influencer room in that empty space above the hotel. Looks great so far, keep up the great work!
@lisagaines1813

What if the hotel was for influencers? They all sleep in bunks in a dorm like room and take turns using the media space for editing or filming. The long empty building could be a laundromat for them to wash their clothes and the rooftop party space is where they hang out when not working. I bet lots of content creators visit BricksieLand and need amenities 😀

I think an ATM room / Bank would be cool next to the comic store. And if you wanted to get a bit cheeky you could add Spiderman and the “fake” Avengers scene from “Spiderman: Homecoming!”

You could convert the left side into a skyscraper if there was a design you liked that would work with it. Then it could still truly be a hotel and add another interesting addition to your skyline

I love the slat-wall! Maybe you should leave the space next door empty as if it's for sale as commercial real estate. Comic stores are often in areas with empty spaces around them.

Could be an ATM Vestibule next to the Comic Book shop. It's not the most exciting build but as that area is a commercial hub, would save the minifigs going down to the bank ^^

Alternate of the Noodle shop, bicycle shop, so you have a staircase upwards, it really needs one. Would also let you alter the dance floor a bit, by making a staircase door box, with next to it, the DJ table, thus bigger Dance Floor. The Collector needs a bedroom, as well, so will you by several of the Friends bedroom sets? Would let you fill things out in the whole building, as well. The thing that is your real problem, is that there are no staircases, anywhere. Will the Collector be the entry-office? Get a few Clean Getaway cleaning trucks. That way you can have the cleaning crew come by to clean things up, one in a while. If that Collector room is not the Hotel Entry Office, raise that section, a bit, then. If it is, use the Noodle Shop as Bicycle shop, side build, as a way to add in a bedroom and staircases, on that side.

This is so cool! I'm very impressed by how you made this set look more complete and like it will fit in your lego city. The design on the left building is especially sweet, I love how the floors are all different but also fit together. Maybe you can put some minifigs in the bridge when all is said and done.

Ok, so far so good. I think I'd change that Hotel to one luxury apartment, they can get their high-tech items form the nearby store. I have the details for a comic store also so I really like that design with the inset door. Oh that empty space beside the Comic store would be perfect for a Peloton Bike Riding place, maybe drop in a mini-fig of Matt Foley as instructor.

Some kind of stairs/elevator is a must. Otherwise it’s not even close to being on par with current modular buildings. Those details is what sets modular building apart from the basic city sets and it seems that is what you strive for! Even if you did a fake elevator like the hospital it would give it a more realistic feel. You already have the extra space so why not? Sorry, not trying to get down on your building technique it’s just I know you can do it if you really wanted to. Love the videos and can’t wait to see the finished building placed.

The long extra space could work really well as a meditation place or yoga class, with mats on the floor and a teacher at the back. A few pieces of furniture with the meditation music player or some nice custom banners and tapestries. The colour scheme inside would work well too!

I think it would be cool if the grey structure next to the comic book store were the elevator lobby to the upper floors and the reception for the hotel (hostel). I think the hotel can be a capsule hotel, matching the futuristic-esque vibe of the entire structure, and the penthouse could be the restaurant for the hotel.

A laundromat in the green and white building would look good. It's narrow and long and downtowns are definitely prominent with laundromats. An emergency fire exit on the pet shop would be a great way to fill that blank space as well. As far as the hotel maybe change it to an airbnb? That way you can do a "house" interior rather than try and put a bunch of different rooms in that small space.
@karlwadesauer9246

Looking good. Can't wait to see it completed and in place. I'm colorblind, but are the colors for the barbershop and vet the same as the corner garage? Withe the empty section next to the vet, you could put an outdoor noodle shop there. And a second floor apartment or office above it. Kinda like the noodle shop along the boardwalk just in the city. Like a franchise with multiple locations in a large city. For the empty store space next to the comic store, it reminded me of a sandwich shop, like a Subway. Those are almost always in spaces like that, slotted between other businesses in whatever space they can find.

@dmudsrcaddict
@dmudsrcaddict 8 месяцев назад
While it would be nice for an additional store there, to solve two birds with one stone, remove the extra store entirely, and extend out the comic shop another 4 or 6 studs. With that, you can have a bit more geometry with the non-flat end wall, fix the 1 stud issue with the hotel, and have a bit more space for more stories in the shop, or a stair case directly to the hotel from the street.
@carriemaxwell4695
@carriemaxwell4695 8 месяцев назад
In that slim space by the comic book store, you could turn that into a convivence pharmacy. It could be a way to use a figure wearing a lab coat and put a bunch of small pieces to use on shelves. I watch Robin Hood Bricks and he did that with his first multi-business modular building and it works great for a small space. I think the whole area should be nothing but businesses/offices, it would be annoying to actually live in such a busy & loud area. So that area where the "hotel" is I think should be converted into something else. You could turn one floor into a Yoga studio or art class since you're going to take down the Imagination Station. It would still give people an area to paint and work with clay. Plus it fits with the aesthetic of retro/futuristic architecture, very hipster and trending. This could be a way to use some bricks of colors that you normally don't put in your builds and eat up those tiny DOTS and printed tiles that otherwise prove difficult to place.

How about these suggestions: First; what if all three floors above the comic book store are actually part of the hotel. But besides rooms you could have a conference room, exercize area and maybe even an indoor pool. The space besides the comic book store could then become the hotel's lobby with a reception desk, waiting area and an elevator which would lead to the upper floors. You could even move the influencer to the 'penthouse' floor of the hotel then; and use the area above the barber for another 'public' hotel area - like a gym, pool or even small restaurant. Then it would also make more sense why they are connected with the skybridge. As for the area on the other side of the street; what about an extension of the building there that features a set of stairs heading up. You wouldn't have to connect it to the upper floors, it would just be the facade of stairs leading there - but alternatively you could add a door at the end of the stairs leading to the influencer's pad. As for my last suggestion; I think those mistakenly 'too small' planters are a blessing in disguise. Bigger planters with much more elaborate plants and such would look awesome, I think.
