Chip's verse was perfect, but Colin's comeback was funnier in the circumstances, especially since the insult came totally out of nowhere in the last few words. It's like he lulled the audience into expecting no comeback and then suddenly hit them with it.

That's true only some of the time. They'll do multiple takes if something happens that makes the verse unusable (failing/giving up, cursing, etc) and sometimes the performers will take extra time thinking that they cut out, but it's overwhelmingly likely that Chip came up with that in a very short period of time. Think of it this way--if they really did multiple takes of every hoedown, you'd get tons and tons of perfect verses.
Takes him about 20 seconds since the guy in the audience yells "Your mother is a drunk", but it's still a masterful verse, like you said, rhythm and cleverness. Colin's comeback is weak and forced, he was just owned.
Chip starts it with a jab at Colin and his mother, Drew doesn't even try and throws shade at Chip, Colin insults Chip by saying his anatomy is small, and Ryan is just like "Fuck it! Wayne is not getting out of this one!"
God Chip just absolutely killed it with this section. He had all of 15 seconds to form that rhyme and he still managed to come out of it with the funniest Hoe Down verse in the series.
Chip: "But if your baby looked like that then you'd be drinking too!" Colin: *Oh I've got something for your a## later!* Drew: "My mama started drinking when she married Chip!" Colin: *Drew, I appreciate your concern, but I can take care of myself.*
There is such a thing as a verbal bitch slap. But this was an absolute out of the gate verbal blitz and ground pound! Colin was dead before he could respond! There was simply no recovering from this!

A better comeback for Colin: I met Esten's mother, I cannot tell a lie You'll have to forgive me if I thought she was a guy But after an hour and a quart or two of gin I massaged her lady bits and she gave me a grin

Not convinced this was just innocent comedy. Felt a bit personal imo. I’m under the impression that behind the scenes Chip wasn’t overly liked by the other cast members and was generally arrogant and kind of douchey. I also doubt Colin took too kindly to this. Bringing someone’s family into it is too far.
DukeDarkshadow I like it exactly cuz it was so obvious he wanted to get back at Chip. He just wanted to say Venus so he can say Chip has a small penis 😂
