Meanwhile, in Australia, voting is a compulsory civic duty for all Australian citizens. Also, how is American government based only upon 2 political idealogies? How is this true democracy when your view of how your country should be run and your political views are shaped and viewed through the lens of only 2 parties? That's seriously weird.

I live in Brazil. The rest of the world is constantly saying that our democracy is weak (frankly, some parts of our country say that too). But as "thrid world country" as you may held us, since the 1988 Constitution, voting is not a problem for us. It is, in fact, an obligation. There is even a fine: 3,50 BRL, which is nealy 0,7 USD. I know it sounds weird, but we have an historical vote turnout of about 80%, which means that 20% of the people do not vote at all. Since 16 years old you are eligible to vote upon registration. Women, indigenous people, iliterate people, white, black, yellow, blue or whatever can vote. We vote on sundays, which is not a work day. The schools are converted into voting pools. So you can vote very close to where you live. All you need is a government issued id with a photograph on it. I know this sound excluding for americans, but this is the most common thing in Brazil. You need one of those for everything here and is free and very easy to have one issued. Registration is needed once in your lifetime, basically. You only need to re-register if your address changes. Recently we've had a recall for all voters to go to a voting registration place to have their digitals registerd so the voting machines can only be used upon biometric recognition, reducing voter fraud (which have never been a problem, but it makes the process more reliable). In areas difficult access, the voting machines are transported even by boat to make sure people can vote. The political rights (right to vote or to be voted on) cannot be repeald. It is suspended if you are an inmate only for the time of your conviction - if your sentence is completed, you are free to vote automatically.

In the Netherlands you can still vote even if you're in prison, as they see prisoners as citizens. You can't call USA a democracy when you don't let 'all' people vote.

The problem now isn’t primarily a voting problem, it’s the fact that people are basically forced to pick between 2 parties/nominees that have a significant advantage in terms of funding, you had Trump and Hillary and now Trump and Biden, the nominees have gotten so bad that people vote based off of who they hate more rather than who they like more. Why do the 1% have the right to determine the nominees every single time?

As an Italian living abroad, I get my envelope 2-3 weeks early and I don't have to sign; The vote is secret, and it's inserted in two envelopes, one inside the other. And the smaller one is only opened at the ballot boxes. Oh, did I mention the envelopes already have the necessary stamps glued?

I never thought my underdeveloped country had more democracy than the number one democracy exporter in the world.

People saying that they have to choose between parties that they do not identify with. The problem is the voting system. In Sweden, where I am right now, there are multiple choices thanks to more people having the ability to have a voice. Please wake up America! What are YOU waiting for?

Here in Canada, the registration process to vote can take place on the day of the election at the polling center. All you need is proof of address and photo ID, or should you not have those things, you can have someone from your district come with you to the polls to vouch for your proof of identity. When you submit your taxes, you can check to see that you're registered to vote. We have had vote-by-mail for ages for Canadian voters submitting their ballots from overseas, and our military officials stationed abroad. We have advanced polling days to reduce the influx of people showing up on the day of the election, we have a substantial number of volunteers to collect the ballots safely, and the role of Elections Canada is to ensure the security and privacy of those ballots. See what the States have done, and how feverishly the Republican Party has been stripping the rights of American citizens from participating in the democratic republic they covet, is truly unsettling to watch. And it makes me angry that Canadians, gifted with all this infrastructure to ensure their ballots are counted, only to show up in dwindling numbers is appalling. We don't know how good we've got it here, and I'm always disappointed to hear of people (my own family included) who chose not to vote despite there being no barriers obstructing them to do so. What other people clamor for, equal representation in government, they only deign to use when they feel like it. This should be a wakeup call to anyone who idly sits back on election day and says their vote doesn't matter; or who complain about politics without even making the bare minimum effort to engage in public policy. Look how easily and how quickly that RIGHT can be stripped away from us, and why we must never allow partisanship to overrule the majority will of the people. We are too complacent nowadays, and quick to complain, but slow to act. I hope that everyone watching this realizes that this battle doesn't end at the US borders - it's everywhere that claims itself to be a fair democracy. Nothing should be taken for granted, nothing is guaranteed, all rights are earned and should be safeguarded, for they can easily be stripped away in the wrong hands.

I don’t see why Americans: 1. have a low voter turnout 2. vote for a third party option especially if they are so sick of the current system. If you don’t vote, you have no right to complain. If I remember correctly, the first (so the oldest) democracy was developed in Athens (somewhere around the sixth century BC).

This is so sad that this is the point that America is at in 2020.

It's so simple in India. Man you guys know the art of making simple things difficult.

Here are a couple major solutions to deal with this. Proportional representation; allow for proportional representation based on percentage of the full vote. Abolish the electoral system. Make the president only elected through the popular vote. Ban all lobbying and create a public fund for campaigns; any politician who's caught being offered corporate donation will be banned from holding political office for the rest of their life plus a 10,000 dollar fine.

Thank you for putting this out. I lived in Tallahassee, Florida when 2000 happened. It was atrocious how bad voter suppression was and we had a front seat. So much of it did not hit the news cycle. I was so outraged I got in as an extra on the movie recount.

Wow I mean i give Pakistan alot of crap but here at least voting is quite simple. ( We adopted everything from the British by the way). You get a national ID card when you turn 18. On Election day you walk into a voting booth, they check your ID card, Biometrically verify you ( not implemented throughout the country though still expanding) and you vote and get on with your day.

I'mma let y'all know it's not that difficult to get registered to vote. You should feel incentivized to vote, so do your part to get registered. It doesn't have to be so dramatic. Self-responsibility is a thing.

As someone who has lived in Colorado my whole life, going somewhere to vote seems so foreign to me. I've gotten it in the mail since I was old enough to vote. Everyone should be allowed to vote from home ESPECIALLY during a pandemic.

Republican, democrat doesn't matter. Political topics are a matter of individual preference. Politicians give us the illusion of choice when in reality we don't have one. If your a citizen of a country colour, sexual orientation, religious belief or none belief, or race should never be used to exclude a person from voting. It is wrong period. What you vote for effects those who are denied a vote, which is why they should never be denied their democratic rights.

also when it shows the UK without automatic registration, while that is true we are bombared with letters telling us to send a thing back or log online to be registered. People come round often and tell us how many people in the house are registered etc. (and our polling places are usually open form 6am to 10 pm i believe

How can they call themselves a democracy when where you live really is what matters when you vote? A vote from someone who lives in a small state is not as important as the vote of someone who lives in one of the bigger states that earn a candidate more Electoral votes.
