The quality of clothes has gone off a cliff. I either buy high quality unworn stuff from a second hand website, or from thrift stores, and estate sales. I don't buy flashy designer stuff, but the quality of most "average" brands is downright unacceptable now.

I have been watching your videos for years and this is by far your very best one. Your quote about money as a waste unless it fulfills its purpose and its purpose is to give options was absolutely spot on and amazing, I literally said wow. I know you didn't call it what I call it but I also appreciated your comments about micro blessings and micro gratification spending . I've never shared one of your videos before but this one I'm definitely sharing.

If you're caught somewhere in the middle, you can look "expensive" without costing a fortune. I notice a *MARKED* difference when I am out in public wearing normal shorts and a tee vs gray/black jeans and a button down w/ sleeves rolled up (not designer, just Express) One fit is about 50$, while the jeans and button down is maybe 130$. But I can wear it everyday (variants etc) and people seem nicer/more respectful. Way better experience. Look NICE/Professional, not wearing lame designer logos that look tacky. You'll see a big difference. Don't LOOK POOR. Look NICE but classy. For cheap :) That's the ultimate win.

With all the crime going on and people targeting others for gold chains and fancy name brands, it's better to look unassuming and wander the world freely. The luxury is in not having debt and picking companies/clothing/furniture based on quality and craftsmanship, not a loud overly flashy brand. Most people know that those dressing up like they have money are doing it from a place on insecurity, so they usually get ignored, and then that person keeps buying even more to get compensated for the lack of attention and power they are feeling. Driving this need for overconsumption and unsatisfactory. The most powerful and rich people are usually rich from the heart and are kind and humble and wear shoes with holes in them and a simple navy blue t shirt but donate millions to charities and schools. Poverty starts in the mind with the "lack" mindset. You go in debt with money you don't have to impress people who don't care, they won't be there for you when you go bankrupt or sick.

I wear Lululemon, but more form a functional and long lasting standpoint. That being said, I also pretty much exclusively buy from the "We Made Too Much" sale section and stack a veteran discount on it... so it basically has a comparable price to regular brands. Otherwise, I save over 30% of my income, and I just hit $1 million net worth this year at age 32.

I work in a school for rich kids in China.. and they even dress their kindergarten kids in 150$ shirts that they will spill food on and grow out of. My Chinese co-worker chided me for saying its a bit silly and said she would do it too. Its not a surprise since most of the money out here is "new money", as in accumulated in the last 20 years, so there is this perceived need to show everyone what your worth is based on your exterior

I grew up as a jeweler in Virginia. Every time I visited the Diamond District in NYC (greater 47th St), I used to arrive in a suit (normal in that area) and get constant solicitation from the aggressive retail jewelry stores at ground level. I changed to wearing ripped jeans and metal rock shirts with dirty hands intentionally to look like a laboring polisher in the area. With the metal shirts, NOBODY cared about me loaded in gems parcels and then I would see wholesale gem brokers after cleaning up in the broker's bathroon!!!! 😁 A past in Psyops saved me a lot of grief in unwanted drama in NYC.

If you spend a lot on something it’s fine assuming you’re not going to go broke and you will use that item a lot.

I worked at this one sports bar restaurant thing in the early 2000s late 90s and St Pete Florida at least a quarter of our customers was millionaires if you drove by the place you would not think that was a type of clientele at the restaurant or walked into it and seen the people it was the basically a neighborhood bar

My former boss use to say on having an expensive fancy vehicle, "If no one could see you driving it would you still own it?" This could apply to expensive name brand items too.

While it is not a frugal choice, spending money on status items is still a valid purchase and has utility. All depends on your goals and what you want to achieve. I've made millions of dollars per year since I was 21 years old. I used to be very cheap like Graham used to be and saved maybe 90%+ of my income. It had no visible impact on my life. I'd be the equivalent of anyone else walking down the street. Graham already has status from being famous so he doesn't really have need for any additional status that status items would bring him. However, if you want to get status boost from wealth, you need to spend money on status items. People will talk about you, more girls will be interested in you, people will invite you to do more things. People want to come to your parties. You don't want to get insane with it and don't want to spend money you don't have though, that's just a recipe for disaster.

I drive around my town in Carlsbad, California (fairly well off part of San Diego) and I just wish I could see a banner over the heads of people driving their fancy cars that states their Net Worth... I have a feeling most of them are in the red.
