"Why 40 Days?" | Midrash Mini

Now I want raisins!

“Sustain me with raisins; refresh me with apples, for I am sick with love.” ‭‭Song of Solomon‬ ‭2:5‬ ‭

“And they brought in the ark of God and set it inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God. And when David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord and distributed to all Israel, both men and women, to each a loaf of bread, a portion of meat, and a cake of raisins. Then he appointed some of the Levites as ministers before the ark of the Lord, to invoke, to thank, and to praise the Lord, the God of Israel.” ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭16:1-4‬ ‭

“And the Lord said to me, “Go again, love a woman who is loved by another man and is an adulteress, even as the Lord loves the children of Israel, though they turn to other gods and love cakes of raisins.”” ‭‭Hosea‬ ‭3:1‬ ‭

““Then lie down on your left side, and I will place on you the guilt of the nation of Israel. For 390 days you will stay there and suffer because of their guilt. I have sentenced you to one day for each year their punishment will last. When you finish that, turn over on your right side and suffer for the guilt of Judah for forty days-one day for each year of their punishment.” ‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭4:4-6‬ ‭

“When David had passed a little beyond the summit, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of donkeys saddled, bearing two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred bunches of raisins, a hundred of summer fruits, and a skin of wine. And the king said to Ziba, “Why have you brought these?” Ziba answered, “The donkeys are for the king’s household to ride on, the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat, and the wine for those who faint in the wilderness to drink.”” ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭16:1-2‬ ‭

❤️ 40. Testing and purification. The gematria of the letter Mem. Water, blood, chaos.

We don't live on bread alone , but on every Word that comes from Yehovah Elohim. Yehoshua also went into the desert for 40 days also to be tested and He didn't eat and was also hungry. Yehovah said in the wilderness when people saw no water or food, that what He wanted was trust in His Word not in the flesh

“Then Abigail made haste and took two hundred loaves and two skins of wine and five sheep already prepared and five seahs of parched grain and a hundred clusters of raisins and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on donkeys.” ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭25:18‬ ‭

“and they gave him a piece of a cake of figs and two clusters of raisins. And when he had eaten, his spirit revived, for he had not eaten bread or drunk water for three days and three nights.” ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭30:12‬ ‭

“The Lord commanded Moses to give the following instructions to the people of Israel. Any of you, male or female, who make a special vow to become a nazirite and dedicate yourself to the Lord shall abstain from wine and beer. You shall not drink any kind of drink made from grapes or eat any grapes or raisins. As long as you are a nazirite, you shall not eat anything that comes from a grapevine, not even the seeds or skins of grapes.” ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭6:1-4‬ ‭

“The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “How much longer are these wicked people going to complain against me? I have heard enough of these complaints! Now give them this answer: ‘I swear that as surely as I live, I will do to you just what you have asked. I, the Lord, have spoken. You will die and your corpses will be scattered across this wilderness. Because you have complained against me, none of you over twenty years of age will enter that land. I promised to let you live there, but not one of you will, except Caleb and Joshua. You said that your children would be captured, but I will bring them into the land that you rejected, and it will be their home. You will die here in this wilderness. Your children will wander in the wilderness for forty years, suffering for your unfaithfulness, until the last one of you dies. You will suffer the consequences of your sin for forty years, one year for each of the forty days you spent exploring the land. You will know what it means to have me against you! I swear that I will do this to you wicked people who have gathered together against me. Here in the wilderness every one of you will die. I, the Lord, have spoken.’” The men Moses had sent to explore the land brought back a false report which caused the people to complain against the Lord. And so the Lord struck them with a disease, and they died. Of the twelve spies only Joshua and Caleb survived.” ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭14:26-38‬ ‭
