Why get rid of run flats?

@@serventofthedeen5885 the ride definitely suffers but the one trait I found to be of most concern was that if you hit a bump with the inside wheels mid corner the cars skip out. This was cured the two times I changed from run flats to regular tyres.

exactly, my m140 always locks spins both wheels in the wet

No it’s a lifetime oil filling, so it’s not sheduled to have fixed services. But for sure you can change it from time to time, only ca 1 L needs to be sucked out and filled again

If I'm correct it's down to the gearbox if it has the auto you may be able to get something

Last weekend

This ^ It's a great mod if you're rich, and you can afford to thrash it around a track every weekend, and constantly buy tyres for it, but for those of us who have M140i's as daily drivers and family cars, it's an expensive mod which isn't really needed. It also makes the front end understeer more, meaning you have to widen the track at the front with spacers, and add camber (which eats tyres even more). Suspension mods, and an underbody brace, are much cheaper and will yield much more of an advantage in 95% of situations.

@@DjNikGnashers I own a M240i and I would argue that getting the LSD was the best mod I did. I haven't been to a track day yet. I think it really depends on the person who is driving the car and their own expectations and driving habits.

@@harbl2479 I hear what you're saying, but realistically, how often do you accelerate around a corner, so hard that the rears lose traction ? If you drive the car hard, all the time, then yes quite often. The average person will drive the car at the same speed as all the other traffic on the road, which is f-ing slow lets be honest. The only time I get the back end out, is a few times at the weekend, if I have chance to go for a hoon. In that situation an LSD would help me be quicker, but I bought the car for fun, and I can slide the back end out around roundabouts without an LSD, and it's great fun. It may also help when launching it, but tbh I have mechanical sympathy for the ZF8, and I don't really launch it very often. On a rolling race, which is really what 99.9% of road races are, the LSD makes no difference, because I am already rolling and have traction. So, while I agree it does improve rear end grip, at the expense of some additional understeer, I stand by my comment that it is an expensive (£2200+) mod, which in 95% of situations (maybe 99%) does not really make any difference to the car (on the road). It’s an E-LSD I thought? Not a proper LSD because it’s operated by breaking a inside wheel?

i agree. I also added the AC Schnitzer suspension and found the car gripped so much better. Given the cost, I don't think the LSD is worth doing unless you are tracking the car and pushing it to the limit and looking for good times

@@derekporter66 yeah mate - shop.ac-schnitzer.co.uk/suspension-upgrades-46-c.asp. I had a full conversion done including the power module. It was an expensive way to modify the car but, personally, I find it really works together well making the car more well rounded. What surprised me most was the suspension made the car more comfortable whilst still transforming the handling.

Robert Gladstone I’m stuck between either springs ( MSS) or going full out on a kit for my 240i. Suspension is poor and doesn’t give confidence unless the surface is smooth. Was that kit recommended to u? And how much was it all with labour if u don’t mind me asking mate

JO3KAH the problem is with the shocks ,fitting the mss springs won’t help much as they have a high spring rate

Jim 86 this is why you shouldn’t assume was going on a straight line moving from a grippy surface to slippy surface in the pouring rain 1 wheel lost grip one wheel retained grip and snapped me sideways with and LSD that doesn’t happen

So you’re in your 20s and made a mistake, like most young drivers.

I'm in my twenties and have a m135i , no LSD can get it sideways rag it over bumps , never had an issue has it over a year now

You get better traction, so it’s usefull

Id hardly say overrated. A cheap b12 coilover kit is 520 quid and they dont really need a lsd for public road driving just better tyres. On the positive side, no other hot hatch is, 6 cyl, RWD, 350bhp with good build quality.

@@carmad1287 just because somthing is rear wheel drive doesn't mean it's a automatically a good car. You put £520 cheap dampers on a car, I put you money on it they wont last long. The amount of money what's been spent on this car he would of been better buying an m2. They again, majority of people who watch this Chanel are sheep and cant see past a BMW, VW or a merc A45.

@@davidkelly2542 Bilstein dampers wont last long? Where exactly do you get your stats from they are high quality monotube dampers, probably better than most dampers you get as standard on other hot hatches.
