@@lilyyy778 sorry for the late reply, I probably applied to about 10-15 internships and had no luck. I just switched my major to this program and didn’t think I had enough knowledge to land a role at a legit tech company yet, so I talked to my dad who works for the city I live in. They have an IT department at city hall and they let me come in and shadow them, they had me officially in their system as an intern. I highly recommend if people can’t land an internship by simply applying and talking to people at company’s they wanna work for, to start off getting their foot in the door by talking to people they know. The hardest internship or job to get is the first one. Since I’ve added that to my resume I’ve actually had a few offers come to me for next summer.

Im so hesitant to go into either CIS or MIS as a person coming out of the healthcare lab field with my AAS. Its making me have to start over a lot. There is very few resources near me to explain the difference and let alone whats worth it for me. The associate route to transfer or to jump straight into the bachelor's while i am still working 9-5. Its a lot to think about.

Thanks for the great video! Can you give me tips on how to break into big tech as as MIS degree holder. e.g. microsoft, google..etc
@ElevateToTheUnknown
@ElevateToTheUnknown 10 месяцев назад
Here are some tips. 1. **Build a Strong Foundation in Tech and Business:** Ensure you have a solid understanding of both technical skills (like programming, database management, systems analysis) and business acumen. This unique combination is valuable in tech companies. 2. **Specialize in a Niche:** Identify areas within MIS that particularly interest you, such as data analytics, cybersecurity, or cloud computing. Specializing can make you more attractive to employers. 3. **Gain Practical Experience:** Internships or part-time jobs in tech companies can provide invaluable experience. Even small projects or freelance work can be beneficial. 4. **Network Actively:** Attend industry conferences, join professional groups, and connect with individuals working in big tech companies. Platforms like LinkedIn can be very useful for networking. 5. **Work on Personal Projects:** Demonstrate your skills and passion by working on personal or open-source projects. This showcases your initiative and practical abilities. 6. **Prepare for Interviews:** Big tech companies often have rigorous interview processes. Prepare for both technical and behavioral interviews. Practice coding interviews if applying for technical roles. 7. **Leverage Your Alumni Network:** Many universities have alumni working in big tech companies. Reach out to them for advice, mentorship, or referrals. 8. **Apply Broadly and Persistently:** Don’t limit your applications to just a few companies. Apply broadly, and don’t get discouraged by rejections. Persistence is key in landing a role in big tech. Good luck!

@ElevateToTheUnknown
@ElevateToTheUnknown 11 месяцев назад
A masters will be worth it but don't think about it for just helping you to become an application coordinator as the degree is more for you transitioning down a management path. So if you haven't thought about the long term then hold off on the masters as the skills you need to become an app coordinator can be obtained for far less than a masters degree

Hi Antoine, thanks for you video, it really motivates me to do MIS, is a Bachelor of Information Technology (Information Systems) same as MIS? I am in Australia and I cannot find a degree called MIS, thanks for your help
@ElevateToTheUnknown
@ElevateToTheUnknown Год назад
No, a Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) and a Bachelor of Management Information Systems (BMIS) are not the same, although they have some overlap. A BIT program typically focuses on a broad range of topics related to technology, including computer science, programming, networking, and hardware, with a focus on technical skills and knowledge. In contrast, a BMIS program is more focused on the management and strategic aspects of information systems within organizations. It combines technology with business and management concepts, covering areas such as database management, project management, business analytics, and information security. While there can be similarities in coursework, the emphasis and career outcomes for these two degrees can differ. A BIT graduate may pursue roles in IT development, support, or infrastructure, while a BMIS graduate may aim for positions related to IT management, systems analysis, or consulting within the business context.

The Management Information Systems (MIS) degree, which focuses on the study of information technology in the context of business and management, can have different names outside the United States. These include: Business Information Systems (BIS): This term is often used in Europe and Australia. It emphasizes the integration of IT with business processes. Business Information Technology (BIT): Similar to BIS, this term is commonly found in the UK and some parts of Europe. Information Systems Management (ISM): This variant is seen in various countries and puts a slight emphasis on the management aspect of information systems. Information Technology Management (ITM): While similar to MIS, ITM sometimes leans more towards the technology aspect. Information Systems (IS): In some regions, the 'management' part of the title is dropped, but the curriculum largely remains the same. Enterprise Systems Management (ESM): This term is less common but is used in some institutions, focusing on enterprise-level systems. Business Computing: Some universities, especially in Europe, use this term to describe a degree that combines business and computing aspects similar to MIS. Different countries and educational institutions might have slight variations in the curriculum and focus areas, but these degrees generally cover similar core concepts revolving around the application of information technology in business and management contexts.
