I love how Catholics are creating their own channels because more people can see that Catholics don't just have good reasons for their beliefs, but are also united (katolikos, one, big, universal family). Way to set the pace, The Cordial Catholic.

"I would not believe in the Gospel if the authority of the Catholic Church did not move me to do so." -Saint Augustine of Hippo
@pistum

@YAJUN YUAN They did: the apostles. The gospel was preached only by those sent (authorized). And those who followed the apostles followed proper teaching. By the time Agustin converted there was not New Testament, but rather multiple individual writing traditional considered sacred. Who considered these sacred?: The Catholic Church. Thus, Paul's Letters to the Roman was one more writing in multiple writings in the world. Yet the Church said it was part of the apostolic tradition, and not any other writing.

@YAJUN YUAN Did you read how the first Bible quoting christians create the first heresy. The church leadership had to step in to fix their problem. (By the way, Paul's Letter to the Romans-my church-was declared authority in the Council of Rome 382. Before that, it was part of the tradition. Remember that there questions the Book of Revelation, Hebrew and James. And some churches included the Shepherd of Hermes, First Clement in their liturgy as word of God before the Council of Rome (my Church.)

@YAJUN YUAN I see in the New Testament a mentality of having a church, not a Bible. 12 apostles, most of them did not write. One of the writes, John, and states that prefers not to do so. And the Bible-quoting christians came along demanding circumcision. (Good try on the "consensus" not authority. When you can, pass me the tile of the book. I want to see where you get these ideas) May the Mother of my Lord bless you. (By the way you tone comes out as Tony, a 7-th day Adventist troll: unhappy. Are you ok? Do you need help? What is bothering your life?)

@YAJUN YUAN Tradition, Tradition with Capital T. Who holds the Sacred Tradition? The successors of the Apostles. We go back to square 1: Why do I believe in the Gospels even if there is not original copies of them? Because that Catholic Church says its the Word of God? The successors of those originally sent know what they were handed on. That is how the church was in unity for almost 500 years before the Bible was created by the Bishops. And continued in unity for 1000 more years. Are you sure you are ok with protestants becoming Catholics? Tell me, you can trust me. I cannot give you the original copies of the council just as you cannot give me the original Gospels or the letters of the New Testament. My faith rest in the Catholic Church sent by Christ. I am eager to go over the book you are referring here. Pax Christi!

@YAJUN YUAN I am fascinating the lengths you go to explain sola scripture as an early church teleology without appealing to church authority. I am unconvinced as I do not see this mindset in the apostolic church. I find an authoritative church that settles disputes and does not splinter. And I find believers that submit to church authority. Those who don´t are outside of the Church. I do not see any rush to collect writing, or to write, and write. In fact, the writings are sent to specific churches -not all-by specific apostles-not all. This "not all" is fascinating! Jesus not writing is fascinating! The New Testament is the product of a Church. Any attempt to try to change this mindset evident in the New Testament is imposing contemporary ideologies on ancient texts. This reminds me of known historians who usually make such claims: “Portuguese arrived in Brazilians lands in 1589” or “Cortés arrived in Mexican lands in 1519.” This teleological mentality is everywhere! This type of writings brings to my imagination Walter Benjamin’s Angel Of History. Bejamin states, “The Messiah comes not only as the redeemer, he comes as the subduer of Antichrist. Only that historian will have the gift of fanning the spark of hope in the past who is firmly convinced that even the dead will not be safe from the enemy if he wins.” You might be to demonstrate to Gnostics to believe in the Gospels, but I will be fascinated when you convince an atheist literary critic of such using textual criticism or an atheist historian using history. I am talking about experts. How old is Textual Criticism? In my Literary Theory class, it started with Aristotle and his book Poetics. Then Continued with Agustine`s On Christian Doctrine. While the texts are ancient, the discipline is new. In fact, I would love to see you prove the truth of the Gospel using post-structuralism, in particular, Deconstruction. Greetings! (Interesting that you label the Catholic Church as denomination, such a post-reformation mentality, where relativism reigns, everything is equal. It is like Islam labeling Jesus a prophet, to justify Muhammad as another prophet).

I'm a Dutch Calvinist who moved from Grand Rapids to the Upper Peninsula because Grand Rapids was too warm for me. ;) While I'm a Calvinist, I have always rejected Q&A 80 of the Heidelberg Catechism because I believe it goes way too far, calling the Mass a condemnable idolatry. On the other hand, the whole 3rd part of the Heidelberg Catechism explains why Christians who are saved by grace must necessarily do good works. Protestant teaching, as I learned it, has never taught that we may "continue in sin that grace may abound." As a kid growing up in the Christian Reformed Church I cringed when I heard pastors and teachers talking about Catholics as if they weren't Christians. Now when I hear Catholics criticizing Protestant teaching I dig in my heals. When it comes down to it we all believe in the same God and Savior, and if we are sincere in our faith we seek to follow him. Catholics and Protestants are brothers and sisters in the faith!

What he says about there not being any importance on discipleship after salvation is blatantly false. No Bible teaching minister has ever said go back and do all the things you did before you got saved.

Jesus. 335 Mary. 1 Mary was so important to the apostles when they were writing their letters to the New Testament churches that she was only mentioned once after Jesus had ascended to heaven. (Acts 1:14) Jesus on the other hand was named 335 times. Mary was clearly unimportant to the early apostles. She has no role in salvation. She was an honorable young woman from Nazareth. She obeyed God ...

Matthew 12:46-50 ESV - While he was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him. See Footnotes below. But he replied to the man who told him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
