Why Adidas Fear of God Athletics Flopped! 

"These are high level ideas that cost a lot to come up with" That's ridiculous, 90%+ of the adidas FOG stuff released so far could have been predicted by anyone with a passing knowledge of FOG and Essentials as soon as the line was announced. He didn't need to take 4 years to put three stripes on existing silhouettes, didn't even change up the colour palette!

Fear of God is like almost all of these "High Fashion" Brands they look like garbage they either need to lead to a trend or ride the trend wave otherways its always flopping

Dystopian custodial art vibes for sure with those fits. I could see adding a couple pieces to the wardrobe, selectively, but at those price points it's a pass from me. My girl liked the new high tops until she saw the price tag 🤷‍♂️

Jerry Lorenzo is no YE

The style isn't really the problem if you like FOG, then it's in your wheelhouse. It's simply a price thing. As much as people say it's the same old look, essentials seem to always sell out at least 80% of its line up every season. I got pieces from the mainline and essentials. But I skipped out on the athletic because the garments are too similar to essentials for the price. I'd rather spend a little extra and get the mainline. I do think the quality looks more elevated than essentials but not double. If they made the price $100-$200 over essentials, I think it would land more with folks.

When this was first announced Lorenzo was posting old school pics of Adidas boxing shoes & track outfits which is an aesthetic I was excited for… but bar the occasional 3 stripes design it looks just like any other FOG collection with the prices to match 😢

I had high hopes for Jerry. It wasn't until I seen the first images of the shoes, and it made me get Y-3 vibes. As soon as that happened it made me very skeptical of the pricing of this collection. Granted the shoes are high but, not as high as I thought. The rest of the collection on the other hand..... complete train wreck. I dont know if this is all Jerry's fault or Adidas thinking they are a high-end fashion designer. It definitely feels like this collection is not for the average consumer or athletes for that matter.

Excited and let down by FOG is how I ultimately felt after the 4 years. Best piece is the sweats IMO. Wish they were tear away like they were in 2018 tho.

FoG itself peaked its design before the adidas collab, the collab was mid. The adidas design languange was so common that theres no need for FoG name to give it more value.

i like "some" of the pieces but i don't buy essentials because the prices aren't worth the product let alone these prices...i felt the same way with kanye's shoes, they were all well above what retail should have been

I quite like a lot of the pieces, but I have a lot of FOG/Essentials already so I don’t feel like I need to buy anyone if it. I actually quite like the LA runners, so I’ve got a pair of them coming. I like the basketball shoes but I don’t play basketball and I’m not gonna wear them in the street so I passed.

Wholeheartedly agree re. Adidas x FOG apparels: Weird, overpriced, and too FOG and not enough Adidas. I am however, really drawn towards the 86 Hi sneakers. That looks like a very well done FOG take on the Rivalry Hi 86. And the price is not too outrageous. I'm looking forward to the other Basketball sneakers with the strap across the forefoot and 3 strips on the toe-box. Those look very promising.....if they actually do get a release.

couldn't agree more....the whole collection feels dated, the quality of the Essential line is mid and that have sour those looking into FOG Athletics, unclear focus because it tries to be Y-3 but at the same time utilitarian?! ....most of the pieces are not even close to be practical for most cases from cut and materials. On top of that his attitude killed any motivation. I don't share the Ye effect plays into it, Jerry has been successful on his own for a min and the people were waiting to see something new but it was over rinsed stuff from 2018 what we got.

Agreed! Nothing new, nothing innovative, and overpriced! I never really thought about it being an "athletics" brand. Always considered it as streetwear because no one is wearing it to play actual sports.

I really love the clothing and shoes silouettes especially the basketball and la runner but I aint paying $1000+ for an essentials quality set

What is this about high prices? Have any of you seen what a Jordan collab product with Balvin or Travis Scott costs(or any famous brand collab) these days? It’s so simple. If you want the lower cost option, get essentials. If you’re more into athletic leisure wear it’s adidas FOG. And if the higher end appeals to you it’s FOG. I have three of the adidas FOG shoes and honestly love the fit and finish of each. The quality of materials and comfort are far more appealing to me than another pair of retro Jordans. The material and workmanship quality of the adidas FOG are also so well executed. If you have had the opportunity to wear the sweatpants or crewshirts… and the hoodies… you’d probably appreciate their value that much more. How much can you improve on what was once called a “kangaroo jacket.” Yet he has improved on all these categories of clothing in ways nobody else has. Say what you will and you can either be armchair analyst critical or maybe try out one piece and see just how insanely comfy these clothes really are. If a piece can last 5 years of weekly rotated wear, I’m fine with paying a bit more for it.

I liked some of the early FOG, Essentials, ideas, and merch early on, but now, when I see it, it reminds me of the IG Vsco filter wave a few years back. Throw on some sad, depressed, mumble rapper's music and boom, there's your nebulous FOG 2024 lineup.

What is it with Jerry''s new obsession with Teletubbies hoods! One of the things that worked with Essentials line is that it was getting FOG cuts and styles with similar quality materials without the ridiculous price tag. If people wait for end of season sales you can buy products of such great quality for under £50. The athletics collection doesn't improve on any of the quality that the essentials line has (in a number of pieces actually made worse) yet charging similar pricing to the recent Gucci collab line.

Pretty bad overall take imo. The only thing I do agree with you on is the timing of the release. The first collection sold out so how could you say it was a "flop"? The pricing is also correct as it was always meant to be in between Essentials and mainline. Why would he cannibalize his own essentials line by pricing it the same? That's just bad business. Have you seen or touched the athletics pieces in hand? They are a level up from essentials pieces when you look at the details in hand. As far as keeping up with trends, FOG stays true to its style and doesn't need to adopt what is currently trendy, that's not their identity. Although all the pieces don't fit my personal style, I still think its a fire collection and can appreciate what he's created. If you can afford to dabble in the athletics line, I would highly recommend it.

If I’m going to spend that much on sports clothes why not just buy Y-3? I feel like that’s the only brand athletics is competing with in this price range and it’s also Adidas. They should either drop the prices to make it affordable, or raise the quality and make them in Italy to have a niche as a truly luxurious sports brand for the ultra rich

God the athletics line just sucks so much. I don't like the mainline or essential lines either, but at least there's purpose. Mainline is typical high end clothing with high prices but with usually much higher quality materials. with a minimal look. Essentials is bringing the price down to hit the mass markets while lowering quality to match profit margins. Athletics is.. the cheaper quality of essentials, plus the inflated price nearing it to mainline value, with 3 stripes added to it?

I think the clothing was for sure a failure and way to much but the shoes. Idk i think they have potential just haven't got the most best colors I've copped 2 pairs of Fog 1s. The 1s sold pretty well yesterday over here and most of the PE pairs where sold out with in 30 minutes. People been crying about the pricing but. Where they crying when they where paying $230-$300+ for any Yeezy shoes years ago. An Yeezy ain't a luxury Brand like FOG really and pricing is almost the same if not cheaper then some Yeezy models shoe wise that people bought up no problem like the Wave runner and Desert boot. Like i said tho in beginning clothing is def gonna be high taking into account the normal brands clothing ranges from $100-300 for shirts , crewnecks and hoodies if not more for the Mainline brand .So why would expect the Adidas collab to be cheap? That's like expecting Gucci or LV to make cheap clothing for normal people that's the whole point of the brand is an exclusion of people to make there customers feel special. The adidas Gucci Samba was $400 people scooped those up no problem, The tiffany AF1 was $400 people where fiening over those sold out in seconds. Just think people flip flop and contradict themselves so much u cant really trust there word to be unbiased.
