Why Age of Mythology Retold Is So Good 

Good video although saying that Relic is involved with this is factually incorrect, Relic only works with their proprietary Essence Engine tech for starters this remake is built on a newer version of the BANG! engine that was used for 3DE, secondly and most importantly, they are not involved with this project whatsoever, the developers of this game are Tantalus, and Forgotten Empires with some help from Virtuous this time around. Also, as pointed out in another comment EE (Extended Edition) came out in 2014 and the original came out in 2002. As for the game itself I’ve enjoyed it greatly for the most part especially the multi-use god powers and the changes to naval encounters, the Major Pantheons have for the most part had significant reworks to bonuses and unique aspects that further enhances their differences in terms of player approach which is welcome. And voice acting aside the gameplay changes made for the campaign as well have been really good, I especially liked the fact that the town centre has been completely removed in the first mission which in itself creates an interesting dynamic at higher difficulties because you simply have to learn to make due with your initial villagers.

Set's ability to convert animals is more used to bring animals to your base to gather food, rather than to fight with them

Excellent video but regarding Set, it is the hardest faction to play and the trick is to use the conversion on enemy hunt early on, so you get food and subtract from the enemy. Later on, the animals like rhinos that you get on Mythical can be great situationally to snipe siege and ranged units alone

This is gonna sound weird, I feel the Atlantians changing their favor gain to oracles is far better than before because it comes to a case of "your favor gain is so little, you may as well only spend it on upgrades" then by end game, you are getting steam rolled by atlantian myth units. Though I hope the atlantian flying healer also have passive self heal. Also a part of me wishes the norse spear thrower was armed with a long bow a case of "I am good at range, please dont get close" but that is just me. A minor tidbit, for some reason I am not a fan of the fanatic's shield, feels like it contradicts their description which I feel they would be against any form of shield, evne on your back.

Age of Mythology Retold and then Gothic Remake and Im going back in time, where I used to skip school to do another mission or explore another cave 😁♥

I like new Age of Mythology it has really better graphics than older versions

Have they added a regeneration system for titan? can their health be regained?

Set animals are more for scouting

I think the one thing that a lot of people don’t like about retold and I’m pretty sure it might be the reason why people will still play the original on steam. They don’t like the voice actors.

i agree with everything you said it is an amazing game i just cannot for the life of me understand how they add in the aid economy mechanic let u autoqueue villagers but no autoqueue on barracks lol so pointless

Not everything correct but yes, they did extremely well with Retold. The only reason I've stopped playing AoT some years ago was because I had to search for games for thirty minutes and the EE version was bad. Very bad (online). Had a blast playing the ladder in the Beta and stresstest, many good games. The game now feels more than ever of a mix of AoE II and SC2 with army behaviour of AoE 4. Still not sure how many people it will attract to come and play online. I hope a lot, but RTS gamers really hate to abandon their beloved game for a new one.

While I agree with your opinion, isn't it extremly depressing that "the most promising upcoming game" is a redo of an old game? Where along the way did the industry loose the ability to make good games from scratch?

I'd wish I would still share your enthusiasm... at first, my hype around Retold was immense. Then I strayed into changelog on AoE Wiki, and felt that incredibly cold shower on my back. You see, I'm a dedicated turtler. I bought OG game with intension of playing it as an "empire-builder" as a kid, and from what I heard, I wasn't the only one. With that attitude, turtling is probably best strategy to go in order to stand a chance against anything but the most brain-dead level of AI. And when I noticed in changelog how incredibly they choose to gut effectiveness of towers... well, I felt my hopes for Retold vanished. Additional watching of videos playing BETA only confirmed my biggest worries - days of us turtlers (even in skirmishes or unranked matches with similarly-minded friends) are numbered. I doubt there is even point to build towers, their attack might as well be purely cosmetics. Defences no longer pose any threat to enemy, no need to build siege, you just send a group of infantry to headline charge enemy base, and they will easily tank it like flea-bites. So massive hype turned into massive disappointment, some people say that intention was to promote (or enforce as I interpret it) aggressive playstyle, and while that might caught attention to meta-chasers and e-sports, perhaps less visible community of us "empire-builders" (including many of us who played OG as children when it came out on disc and were hyped for Retold out of nostalgia) had to "move aside", as is often the case...
