I don't listen to AJR and not a fan of their music. But apart of me does appreciate the fact that AJR shows that music should always be fun first. Something that I think is lost in a lot of people nowadays. Listen and create to what makes you feel happy because at the end of the day music isn't the epitome of life.
It’s so hard as a die hard AJR fan to see all the hate they get. I always find their music so catchy, fun, and inspirational. Even though their newer songs aren’t as popular, and one of their songs are massively hated, it doesn’t change how they are and who they are, and they will always be remembered for the amazing impact they’ve had on people. Fans, or not.
Jillion, I like how you respect people who don't like their music. As a new AJR fan, I haven't really had people talk about how they hate their music. Thanks for putting this in perspective for me.
I’ve heard people say that AJR has “no talent.” Talent isn’t an opinionated thing, though. It’s a fact whether someone has talent or not. AJR has a lot of talent for what they do. If they didn’t have talent, they wouldn’t make music. It’s that simple.
Talent is absolutely an opinionated (subjective) thing. Them making music does not mean they have talent. People can make bad music, and people that lack talent (experience) that make music, do make bad music. All that being said, I'm a big fan of them and I think they are incredibly talented.
The band isn’t the problem, it’s the annoying fan base that makes everyone hate it. Back when WSV and bang blew up, so many people used it in stupid dream SMP edits and whatnot giving them a reputation as “weird band kid” music. You can dislike the music all you want but the three guys are genuinely good people that don’t deserve to get hated on as bad as they do. Edit: every band has as few songs that almost everyone hates, AJR has like 4 lol. Another huge issue is that most people only focus on those 4 and call the entire band bad without even listening to the rest of their discography.
I only discovered AJR in March i think, they speedran becoming my favourite band. i cant wait to experience what its like as they finish the maybe man era and begin teasing whatever their next album will be! also i really wish i could go to one of their maybe man shows but i cant :(
This video is actually a godsend, thank you for being a genuine fan and critic. My second concert was there Maybe Man Tour, and it was one of the best moments of My life. They are my favorite band personally, mainly because they are bold, and loud, and unique. They have simple and wild songs that are easy to sing along to and relate to, as well as some more heavy and adult songs to keep things grounded-while still having their own style to back it. Does that mean I like every song they’ve made? No, Beats was extremely mid, and Thirsty is-well we know what it is… Also I think it’s worth mentioning that the people that say “they have no talent” has not seen any of the covers for other songs they’ve done. In their original music, they sing very raw and wild, but they can genuinely sing extremely well, they just choose to go for the more raw poppy style
@@Craigless69420 I went with five other people, one of which is one of my best friends. We both graduated this year, so certain songs like Sober Up hit different.
I was just called out… I like AJR, Imagine Dragons, and Twenty One Pilots. I’m not ashamed I’ve seen them all in concert, (except for TØP who I’m seeing soon) but I agree, Thirsty is… and so is Thunder.
ID listener and ajr fan here, I like thirsty, and I also like thunder... is thunder just a joke or a meme in your fandom? never understood why it's hated...
@@nate0___ thirsty is just an Intresting song, I’m definitely not a fan of it but I guess I’m also not a college student playing drinking games. And personally Thunder is very repetitive in my mind and I just don’t like it all that much. The songs don’t represent the artists overall, some artists just have a song or two that aren’t aswell liked by some fans and that’s alr
ha. i clicked on this randomly and you’re very astute. and love the green day shirt- a band who has had more than their share of haters in the past 30 years. sub earned!
they have absolute bangers like sober up which i will always cherish as an ode to childhood nostalgia and then absolutely despicable songs that take up 80% of their discography 💀
Bro I have one friend who loves ajr and we let him on aux in the car and even my friend's dad starting roasting the music💀💀lets just say he lost his aux permissions
1. Yeah their music is childish, and that's what makes them so special. The nostalgia I get from these songs is insane. 2. Production overdone? The more the merrier. The more noise and instruments and wonderful sounds I hear the more euphoric I feel, and that's why I love their music. 3. Yeah... I don't get why people say their music is surface level. If you listen for just a little bit you can understand all the metaphors they include in their songs. They sing about topics that are relatable, and IMO they aren't really a pop band. 4. The way they act is special and I love them for it. They act like this because Jack, the lead singer, is autistic. It's literally just his personality. (I'm autistic too btw) AJR is amazing. If you don't like them, you don't have to, just don't hate them. Also... Thirsty is a good song.
about a year ago ajr was my favorite band of all time. now as I learn to play the drums i am a huge fan of Green Day, it was amusing to see you wearing a dookie shirt while talking about a thing I used to love.
I will say as a fan, these reasons and defenses kinda prove a point that AJR is a subjective band, but some of their songs do hit a little deeper for fans, and also their focus is on the tour, and how a song can be presented, which is why things like most of neo, plusmaybe man and 2085 are very grandiose. Great video though!
Thirsty instrumental hits don't get my wrong, but you definitely have valid points and as a fan of 3 years, I can see why for some of these outright comments
all of their songs feel like they end on the same note they started on. Here's a song about a guy who thinks he's owed good karma cause he's nice - yes of course he's not gonna experience any growth by the outro of the song. Here's a song about a guy who has to choose between his career and his partner - yes of course the only solution is to do the partner stuff in June. Here's a song about a guy who finds it hard to change because he's used to staying in the same place - of course the last line is gonna be "Where I am going is right where I am." There's no moral here. It's not uplifting. It's relatable in a way that doesn't say anything. I try so hard to like it but it doesn't go anywhere. Where's the solution JACK? Here's a song about a guy who realizes love isn't like a Disney movie - surely it'll highlight the real ways love is beautiful, rather than being a trilogy of doomer songs about how love sucks, right? Surely when it does get to the point about how real love is beautiful, it'll actually show that point instead of shoehorning it at the end, right? Here's a song about a newborn baby losing his wonder and whimsy because the world is so evil - Okay I choose to interpret the outro verse as something hopeful here, but I'm kinda doubtful about it being meant that way. Gah. Even Tyler found his Car Radio eventually.
Its like if white bread and wheat bread had a baby that had the worse of both kinda sandwhich breads. I hate the way they act like "we're the realest of real musicians" when they put being silly and childish over making ART.
Welcome to the brand new face of RU-vid, where sometimes we just like clicking on why this RU-vidr we probably never heard of did something bad or just fell off
this was a great video, you nailed every reason i dislike the band. i've tried to listen to each album and give it a fair chance but, because of every reason you say in the video i just cant. i'm happy others can enjoy it and i'll never try to take that away from them but the reasons you gave make it so hard to understand the appeal. the lyrics are childish and surface-level, the instrumentals are basic and overproduced and it captures what it feels like to grow up, which by itself isn't bad but it does not execute well imo. surface-level lyrics could never capture that feeling, the topic is just too complex:/ amazing video though!
YOU HAVE GONE A STEP TOO FAR WITH THIS ONE. I CAN TAKE ALL THE SLANDER I WANT AGAINST THOSE BABBLING BOYS I LOVE SO GOSH DARN MUCH BUT WHEN YOU BRING THIRSTY INTO THIS I NEED NOT LET MY VOICE REST FOR ALL THERE IS TO DO IS SHOUT. YOUR MOTHER GRANDMOTHER AND GREAT GRANDMOTHER WOULD ALL AGREE YOU ARE BUT A SMEAR ON THEIR BLOODLINE. YOU MIGHT TRY TO LIVE A GOOD AND HONEST LIFE AND FOR ALL ITS WORTH THAT ADMIRABLE BUT YOU WILL NEVER LIVE THIS DOWN. NOT ONLY IS THIRSTY THE BEST SONG EVER WRITTEN I THINK YOU WILL FIND THAT NO OTHER SONG COMES CLOSE. BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY IS TO THIRSTY WHAT THE SOUND OF A WET FART IS TO IT. IN THIS ESSAY I WILL EXPLORE HOW HUMAN CULTURE PEAKED AND SOON AFTER ITS RELEASE DIED WITH THE MUSICAL COMPOSITION THIRSTY BY AJR. IN THE BEGINNING THERE WAS NOTHING AND THEN THERE WAS EVERYTHING ALL OF TIME AND SPACE CONTAINED WITHIN A SINGLE POINT. ETERNITY AND EVERYTHING THAT WAS EVER TO HAPPEN OR HAD EVER HAPPENED. ITS KINDA LIKE IF YOU ZOOMED REALLY FAR OUT IN ADOBE PREMIER SO TECHNICALLY THIRSTY IS ALSO IN THERE BUT LETS FORGET THAT AND GO TO THE YEAR 2015 WHEN THIRSTY WAS FIRST RELEASED... AND THEN IN 2016 EVERYTHING KINDA WENT TO SHIT... I REST MY CASE
The Lyrics are deep af watchu mean simple??? Sorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyy m8 I meant fine vid ofc (altough I'm kind of confused since I watched the vid it's not really bad sooooo yeaah uhm...) Have a nice one bye-
Thirsty is MAD underrated. Of course, the yodelling kinda sucks but the part around "Im up and i raise my cup singing everything is gold" and "i run my mouth, dont got a lot to say," is pretty good. They could have made it a much better song tho call my dad is worse
