Hey Jomari, great job!! I'm excited for you knowing how you are progressing, and 2 weeks is actually very good for a first fingerstyle arrangement. I'm really glad to hear that my lessons have helped you and yes I hope I can inspire many more aspiring musicians like yourself. Please do share my videos with your friends so that they can learn from them too :)

Thank you for guiding me in my early learning phase. I will get started with the Solfege thing once I restring my guitar's missing strings.

Would it possibly be more effective to sing, one two three etc. rather than singing do re mi etc? That way you would know the particular interval you're singing on the fretboard?
@neilchanmusic

Hey! My previous reply seems to have disappeared, but my what I mentioned was that it's difficult to sing numbers, especially at fast speeds and when you start getting into sharpened and flattened intervals/scale degrees. Solfege syllables are much more musical and singable.

Hi Neil, found your RU-vid channel while searching for finger-style tapping. I am learning scale at the moment and I am intrigued by this video on applying solfege to scale which enables you to play any melody so fluently at your fingertips. My question is when applying solfege to a melody, do I have to know the Key of the melody first before I can apply solfege to the melody. If the melody starts with a DO I would assume it would be easier, but if it starts on other notes then it becomes confusing because I would not know whether is it Re to Mi or La to Ti as both have the same interval apart.

@neilchanmusic 2 года назад
Hi Simon, glad you've found this topic intriguing. To answer your question, you don't need to know beforehand what key the melody is in, but you need to train yourself to be able to figure it out very quickly within hearing just a short section of the music. Yes many melodies do not start on DO. The method I use is to find any note on the scale, (you could just use the first note of the melody), and play/sing up or down the scale until you find the DO note. You'll be able to tell which note is the DO when you've practiced the scale on its own sufficiently. Hope this helps!

sir can i ask, what is scale? And can i use it in fingerstyle. Btw nice video sir.
@neilchanmusic
@neilchanmusic 3 года назад
Hey James, I have other older videos on scales: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-exATEIizx2E.html and also newer ones coming up! In a nutshell, a scale is a series of notes built upon a tonic note, and usually a song is constructed based on these notes within a particular scale. Yes you can definitely use it in fingerstyle guitar.

Thanks, Neil ! I see the little children at church using hand signals for learning solfa Do Re Mi and was always intrigued by the way they absorb music so easily .
@neilchanmusic
@neilchanmusic 3 года назад
You're welcome, and yes! It's a great tool for getting beginners eased into western music, but also can be taken to very advanced levels of practice. Have you learnt it yourself?
@audreygiamlayhoon
@audreygiamlayhoon 3 года назад
@@neilchanmusic I have not , I understand that they use the Kodaly Method, and they make a game out of it . So the leader uses hand signals and the children are in different teams and compete to name the notes, or name the song. It's good for fidgety children and they learn it very well.
