Actually in 1979 (43 years ago) the A's home attendance was a paltry 306.763. The actual playing field at the Coliseum is nice. Especially since the Raiders no longer play there. The biggest issue is a billionaire owner who refuses to spend any money.

I'd also mention the A's have terrible player retention. Outside of the most dedicated fans, it's very hard to keep up with the revolving door policy of the A's. We only have something like 9 returning players.

This is a great summary of the issues. Bad ownership. a city that has been burned by the Raiders, burned by the Warriors, and won't play their game anymore. Last week, the A's bought the land to build in Las Vegas. After Davis Mountain, which ruined the view before the Raiders left the colisseum, the city won't subsidize Joe Fisher. This is an MLB greed proplem, contributed to by the NBA and NFL and Davis family. How many times do you get screwed before you stop paying for the privelege?

An a hardcore A's fan for years, I will point out what makes me reluctant to attend some games. 1) the ownership doesn't care. They will ship away good players just to shed the payroll. 2) ticket prices. ticket prices have gone up ehile playing quality has gone down. 3) consession stand prices are also ridiculous. 4) the area. We know East Oakland is a rough area, but less and less people go, so when you go to the Coliseum on bart or uber, you dropped off at lonely and sketchy areas.
@DELTAALLSTAR08
@DELTAALLSTAR08 2 года назад
I think you have the prices mixed up on your price increase break down. Section 119 is a lower level seating as compared to 225 which is second deck sitting with the general public. I think the number for those two sections need to be flipped. Section 119 should be the highest priced ticket since it is closer to the field and is field level. Just my input as an A’s fan that’s purchased those tickets in those sections before.

The Marlins new ballpark is located in the dangerous Cuban ghetto of Calle Ocho. I'm a New York, NYC native and lifetime Yankee fan, if I go to see the Yankees play a series at the Marlins ballpark, I'll make sure not to lift earlier in the day, in case I get into a fight as I'm 63. Do you want to go to a ballpark where you might risk your life on the way to the parking garage. No, I don't think so. Yankee Stadium surrounding areas are a lot safer and cleaner. The only worse place than Calle Ocho neighborhood is Hialeah, Florida. There's Bucky Dent park where Hialeah high school baseball team plays in. You risk your life if you go there. Hialeah has 10 times more wearhouses with illegal rooster fights than Calle Ocho.

The bathrooms have overflowed with sewage, but that’s it. I think it’s a move to further justify the move to Vegas. The city of Oakland, as well as other cities in the Bay Area has done quite a bit to alienate the A’s. Fremont blocked a move, the Giants played the territory card for San Jose even though it was Oakland’s territory until the 1990’s. The A’s gifted it to the Giants to convince them to stay, but then did not return the favor 20 years later. The A’s ownership is done trying to stay in Oakland and the Bay as a whole, and the fans are the ones that are paying the price. In my option the Howard Terminal Project is mostly a show and the real intention is a move.

Oakland is not in a small market. The Giants, Warriors, 49ers, and Sharks all have money and spend it. The Bay Area is the fifth largest market in the US. The “small market” is an excuse for the owners to be cheap. One thing the A’s have going for their culture is they are a blue collar team, while the giants are more white collar. Meaning they attract the more gritty fans while the giants are more of the business type. That alone provides the A’s for a large fan base, particularly in the east bay. Oakland, San Leandro, Hayward, Fremont, Richmond, Pittsburg are very blue collar type cities and if the A’s ownership would just spend some damn money it would pay dividends for them. Billy Beane can find talent. Imagine if he could also pay them.

I have watched 1 second of this video as a diehard A's fan for 21 years. If this video isn't about 1 thing I swear I'll go on a rant and tell you why the A's attendance actually sucks. After Further Review: You did hit a lot of the points on why the attendance is low.... so i won't go to bad on you. However, you mentioned the big issue, but also didn't. The Big issue is Kaval and Fischer alienating the fanbase as much as possible over especially the past decade plus, to the point where this is a literal fan boycott of the team. Like you mentioned, Oakland Coliseum is not nice, and it's Fischer's job to upkeep the stadium, city of Oakland has publicly funded renovations before (Mt.Davis, the stands above center that are always tarped off the city payed for to entice the Raiders into coming back to Oakland in the 90's..... I think). . Also with the raising of ticket prices, and the selling of Fan favorite like Chapman, Olson, Bassit, Manaea, and what will ultimately be Ramon, Frankie, and Murphy (Langliers is ready, murphy is gonna be gone) Fischer and Kaval have cut the necks of A's fans everywhere. On top of all this, Oakland went back on the revenue sharing program this year, which is supposed to put more money into owners pockets to improve your team on the field, Instead of paying players Fischer had a firesale of the team., selling off top stars like Olson who signed for 170 million the day he got traded, and chapman who is a multi time platinum glove winner, for pennies on a dollar (besides the oly trade, Pache and Langliers are both going to be good.)

They need to have an amusement park themed stadium where you can see a roller coaster 🎢 from home plate looking out the ballpark toward centerfield. Bring back the 1969 and 1970 yellow vest top uniforms with the numbers not only on the back but on the side lower front jersey and on the pants. This made the A's look very interesting. I'm a lifelong lifetime New York Yankees fan but remember that uniform from the 1969 and 1970 season. The roller coaster amusement park theme would appeal to kids and make it fun. If an A's player hits a home run the roller coaster cart could ride by with a clown and artificial screaming noises and cotton candy neon lights from the scoreboard. That sounds like fun to me and would liven up the place. Plus you need photos inside the stadium of past Oakland A's greats. I'm a Yankees fan and love the photos of the old players at Yankee Stadium. The A's have an advantage over boring expansion teams which have no history at all. Amusement parks themed stadium is the way to go as they can call it the Oakland Amusement fan's Funhouse.

Well we'd have to get a corporate sponsor. Perhaps they could team up with Disney to design the first ever baseball themed amusement park/ MLB ballpark. Have rides and concession stands surround the field and seating area, make the land a circular hill with a dip in the middle so you can see the rides from anywhere in the park, and that way you could hide the hideous parking lot underneath 😀 " Disney+ Field" has a nice ring to it and every few seasons they could change it to hype up a new TV show or film.

@@BoleDaPole I heard Disney just made a fortune in profit from the Beatles Get Back movie even after paying Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Olivia Harrison and Yoko Ono. The important thing is to make baseball fun. All these state fairs all across the Midwest where are no major league baseball franchises draw lots of people through their turnstiles. It's great memories for families. They need to bring back helmet day. When I was a kid Yankee Stadium had bat day, ball day, cap day, T-shirt day, helmet day. They gave everything but a baseball glove. I know those batting helmets are not the same price of $2 anymore but giving them away is still not giving away a fortune and makes the fan base grow. Here in Miami, the Marlins only have ballpoint pen as a giveaway. LOL

It doesn’t have much to do with the stadium actually. I’ve been to many A’s games and while I liked the Coliseum better before the Raiders came back, it’s not all that bad even now. Moneyball, bad trades, and extremely cheap ownership. The A’s haven’t broken any attendance records but they have drawn over 2 million fans several times within the last 20 years which ranked them in the top half of the league at the time. Raiders still haven’t paid their debts from building Mount Davis! Oakland knew they were crooks.

I know this guy thinks he knows everything but that’s not the only reason why the As have low attendance. Let’s talk about how 80 percent of their fan base was pushed out by big tech and forced to move east like Stockton Modesto sac etc so it’s almost impossible to make it to a game. And all the tech /liberals only go to games in SF cause it’s looks prettier for their IG story.

@@bullwinkle2380 makes no sense for a baseball team to play at a football stadium . You do realize Vegas has a minor league ballpark

Don't most MLB stadiums have low attendance numbers, compared to other sports like the NBA and the NFL ?

The A’s are a disgrace to professional baseball. They need to be kicked out of Major League baseball.

Oakland will never have professional teams again until the entire city is gentrified. It has been a dangerous toilet since the 80’s.

If the people about them would have wanted a baseball team they would have thought forward a long time ago. Off to Vegas baby 🏆💪🇺🇸💯💚

Owners blow, business model of dumping best players for prospects not exactly the way to appease the fans, just move or sell. Go Giants…

How about getting San Jose back since you guys got it for free in 1990 when you were struggling and talking about leaving SF
