Oh that happens all the time. Happened to me even. When I moved to Idaho for the first time, I moved to a neighborhood that let their dogs roam around outside freely. I didn’t think much of it, then, when this one weird looking brown dog with a long face came up to me and started sniffing me. I actually bent over and pet it for a minute because it seemed friendly, and stayed with it until it got bored and wandered off. It occurred to me later that I didn’t know what a coyote looked like, so I googled it. Lo and behold lol

I had a friend pass me their phone wheezing with laughter because their parents had sent them a pic of their new rescue dog after it's bath. It was one very confused very waterlogged coyote. lol. They kept it. guess they lived somewhere they could do that? wish I knew how they were doing.

I have a friend who can replicate a coyote call and he's like 40. He also does wolves and regular dogs.

I'm going to go into the mountains where no one will have to put up with the horrendous sounds I'll be making (except for some coyotes and other wild life...my apologies to them) and give it another try. Replicating wild animal sounds is a huge stress reliever. Thanks.

​@@theend-nz6vs luckily, just from my experience living in rural Oklahoma where we've got a pretty larg coyote population, the hate they get is dying down more and more as the years pass. Even alotta the most farmer ass rednecks you'll meet only even hunt them when they've got a really malicious group killing calfs or something, and even then they usually aren't very happy about it. Like, they'll straight up just be like "they gotta eat" about it most of the time.

Coyotes can be domesticated pretty easily. And coydogs are pretty common in rural areas.

When I was living in a trailor, homeless, we had a cat that was used to being indoor, but she was very resilient about switching to outside kitty and back again, we live in COYOTE territory, she could wander around the site during the day, but the moment the sun hits the horizon? Its crate time, i didnt play, there was also two maine coons to hunt rats and mice, she was smart enough to stay in the site during the day, but coyotes dont care once activity dies down, my mom went out in the middle of the night and one, a juvenile, was sniffing around, she told it to bugger off and it just looked at her like this 😳 and left

It's not "blind hatred" coyotes will straight up merc most small breeds of domesticated animals, they cause significant losses in juvenile livestock, and have an insane impact on most small animal populations (particularly grouse and rabbit). In my native state of Virginia, it's not uncommon to see spring clusters of Coyotes number 8-12... and they've predated our original state bird population to near non-existence in the southwestern/Blue Ridge areas where they used to thrive. As a kid, I rarely stepped outside without hearing the call of bobwhite quail. Now the occurrence is so rare, I've went years between them.

Kinda related note, there's a video game where there's mutated animals in the future, but then there's the coyote, it's there, but just a coyote, 100% yote. They're up there with crabs as some of the ultimate lifeforms. Jokes aside I respect coyotes as a species. Mostly reclusive and rare to spot, they can be nasty if they wanted to and have remarkable resilience. I think they're beautiful creatures.

They have memory and form bonds. I saw this documentary where they took 2 (Crows, Ravens?) from the same nest and hatched them, gave them transmitters, and it was found that they met up and recognized each other several years later. They distinguish voices too... There still is so much we do not understand about nature :)

@@guyincognito959why grandmother actually had a pet crow that they raised and it could talk. However, her bachelor uncles taught it some pretty nasty language. So it would randomly blurt out obscenities for no reason.

They also teach their young as well! So if you are mean to the parent crows, for example, they will teach their babies to hate you too!

Which is why I make it a point to be nice to them or at the very least just say hi to them.

I live in Texas too and I dealt with them all the time living in the country, then I realized they regularly go hang out in the city too

The puppies got it their pen and found the kittens on the porch, and treated them like dogs treat toys, meaning them pulled the kittens apart. The puppies were disciplined sure, but they were doing what dogs, what animals, do. A woman I worked for hates coyotes for going after her chickens and “pet” deer, but her German Shepard crushed a chicken to death and she didn’t so much as swat her. But that’s the way people are unfortunately.

I'm jealous I have coyotes and foxes to but no matter what I did before I got my livestock guardian I'd find animals mostly chickens or sheep dead. No matter what I fixed up or what I added they still got em. I think they want to taunt me because I hear them out my window at night. Now that I have my livestock guardian I haven't had anyone come up dead.

A friend of mine had a coy dog, who was just the sweetest, quietest thing. She used to hide under my chair whenever somebody was being loud or moving too fast and she got scared, and it made me feel super protective. I know having a dog who's easily frightened around, say, small and unpredictable kids who don't understand the "don't touch me, I'm scared" cues, can sometimes have potential bad results, but I never once saw her get aggressive out of fear even in really chaotic situations - she'd just find a safe adult and put them between her and anything she wasn't sure about.

I grew up in Oklahoma and I never once saw a coyote. I did, however, see a whole lot of "coydogs." There were no wolves there, but the state's "coyotes" were big, mean, and tended to look a lot like German shepherds, pit bulls, and dobermans. So yeah, that "10% domestic dog" at 13:45? I can explain it.

A big, silver coyote got hit in the road near my place. I stopped to look at it and it was fresh so I decided to skin it. It was so big when I got it home I weighed it. It weighed 53#. A 25# coyote where I live is a big coyote. It made a gorgeous pelt. People that see the pelt think it’s a wolf but we don’t have wolves so I’m pretty sure it was a coywolf.

I live in SE Arizona and have developed a real love for coyotes over the years. We have a pair that live in an open patch of desert right behind our property, and hearing them holler back at the trains that come through always brings a smile. I had a smaller breed dog over our first years here, and I knew they were a danger for him. I just adjusted my life and made sure he never went out alone. The coyote pair came to investigate him a couple of times, but I chased them off. I love them, but I don't want them to lose their fear of humans either. Even now that he's gone, I still love to watch them from a distance, but if they get too close, I chase them off (I have chickens). They're such an important part of the ecosystem here, I don't want to see them eradicated FOR SURE.

I live in FL and had to research coyotes after they started showing up in broad daylight at my grandmother's house (rural). I was surprised to learn that certain packs don't have a taste for domesticated animals, and it made me like them a lot more, since apparently having coyotes with an appetite for wild game around means they will run out the ones looking to snatch livestock or pets. I was relieved because I didn't want to try to help her the old fashioned way- hanging one from a fence post (I don't mind hunting, but I don't like killing what I won't eat). They haven't harmed anything of hers since we've seen them, so we let them be. Hopefully they maintain the territory and keep any bad ones out for a long time because I don't want to hurt Wiley if I don't have to.

@@dawnt6791 Here in Florida they're technically invasive, so as pretty as they are it does make me sad to see them here. But we can't take them out until the red wolf population recovers (I pray it does, not looking swell so far), so I try to just be appreciative at the same time. They're filling the red wolf's niche, and they're an alright substitute until we can get our OG wild canid back.

@@bigred212 I never had seen a coyote until I moved to Texas, but after living in several areas across the state, I can safely say they're... fine? I don't hate them, I've just had the unpleasant experience living in a place where they made it impossible to sleep ANY night, or a bit uneasy going on runs/walks at night with many of them crossing back & forth past me down the street. The video says they're afraid of people, but when you're the only one, they have no problem following you from a distance. Doesn't mean I want them killed or anything, just makes you pay close attention 😂

Coyotes are in pretty much every state in the USA I believe but yes there a lot of different types. The desert 'yotes in Arizona for instance are slimmer and calmer (for a coyote hahah) than the coyotes in Georgia which are very dark and a bit stocky.

"Don't feed wild animals-" This could be the important part right here, because it's usually asking for trouble no matter how cute they are. (It you think it's small, cute, and harmless... the things which prey on it probably are NOT any of those things.)

Rule of thumb: If an animal bites me, beat the animal until it realizes that was a terrible idea. Seems like cruelty, but it's better than putting a bullet in its head.

And this is why we can't have nice things people are stubborn and don't listen. Unless feeding them becomes punishable by law or people band together and hold themselves to a rule your gonna see many more dead coyotes.

I took in a very skinny stray pitbull that showed up at my house in rural Texas. She had a pup with her that grew up to look almost like a heeler with a very bushy tail that never barked like a dog, but sounded just like a coyote. I always just figured mama hooked up with a coyote while she was living in the woods.

Sad story. One of my favorite dogs was a coydog resulting from a coyote knocking up the farm dog. Her Romeo pulled it off twice at least. Had 2 litters of coydogs. Love finds a way.

That ISN'T the reason wolves & coyotes attack cats & dogs - they do it because they see them as COMPETITION. A coyote WILL attack a cat, but ONLY if they think they can win & NOT get crippling damage from the prey... I see the same thing with these snakes we have at work. When small, they bite to scare you - once they get to a certain size & think they can do damage, they will flash you, bury teeth in you, & HOLD ON. We spray listerine in their eyes, & they let go. Listerine = snake mace...

I texted my mom to warn her so dad doesnt walk the dogs yet (three pitbulls, probably be more concerned for the coyote than for the dogs) and she came over to pick me up. When I moved up north for a couple of years I could hear the coyotes howling outside, since Im a night owl it didnt disturb my sleep, I kinda enjoyed it, being up at night can be lonely.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. Coyote howls never really bothered me. Then again I find nature sounds kind of relaxing. Besides, in the country small dogs have more to worry than coyotes. You can at least deter coyotes by just being there with your dog but if a hawk wants your little yapper?

I’m out in the Pocono Mountains and it never bothered me to hear the coyotes cries. We’d all stop and listen at a certain time of night. They sound super close to the house, but we see one once in a blue moon. Personally I don’t mind them, they do their own thing. But I understand people upset at them taking their livestock or harvests. What I don’t understand is killing them inhumanely. Like, make that shit quick if you absolutely have to.

The town where I lived in with my half coyote dog had maybe 3500 people. Many of them were miners or working cowboys not much different from the old western times. Coyotes are not harmless but they are not villains and certainly no threat to an adult human. I don't blame farmers or ranchers for protecting their chickens or livestock .

I haven’t read most of it yet, but what I’ve learned from that book, most all, wasn’t about coyotes, but a lesson in human cruelty.

Recently finished that one myself. Great read! Loved how he touched on the significant role coyotes have played in native culture and religion.

Close encounters are amazing!!! One night I was smoking outside a coffee shop, when one came loping ever so casually out the bush and across the parking lot straight towards me. I took a couple more drags, dropped the butt, and in one smooth movement slipped inside the restaurant's glass door entryway. Immediately it sat and we regarded one another with equally respectful curiosity. I tend to think it recognized the moment my scent vanished, and understood that I was still present behind a barrier; such a cool experience, which I'll never forget.

I usually hear them more often then see them . I was in the backyard one night and behind the yard is a lot of desert for a few blocks up and a couple of miles long . I would hear them hackling out there from time to time . At the time I didn't know that they did that when they eat their prey . Well one night I was out back and it was quiet and then I heard them starting up then I heard a house cat growl like I've never heard before. The cackles continued with more of them starting in now . The cat growled again and then just a couple seconds later I heard the cat belt out it's death growl . It was a grusom sound . Then all you heard was the coyotes cackling out there till they were done eating . That was a couple of years before covid and in twenty years I had only seen maybe a handful of them and a bit of a distance from me or e runnin off . During covid when most everything was closed for a few months I was seeing them all over town . The first one I saw during covid me and a friend was sitting at the bus stop bench on the main road . Weve been talking it up and were having a few drinks for a couple of hours not seeing anyone outside . Then we seen one coyote on the other side of the street just walking down the sidewalk of the main road all non chalant like it was nothing. We sat there and just watched the coyote strolling along on down the road . It stopped and looked towards us then kept walking down the street. That was the first one I fully got to see and experience up close and with the atmosphere at the time being late at night and how eeriely quiet it was when it happened was quite a experience . After that I started seeing coyotes a bit more often around town until after everything started opening back up I still would spot one here and there but in the last year and a half I haven't seen one and only heard them off in the distance a few times . I would always see them solo and never in a pack . If I ran into one that I felt was to close to me I would yell like get , go on and stomp my foot and the coyote runs off . It's very rare they will attack humans and if they do it's if they are in packs and probably most likely desperate for food . They are more scared of you but definitely not scared of your pet . When I walk my dog one of the reasons I always carry my Glock 10 mm just in case if I ever did run into a pack coyotes and if they would attempt to go after my dog while I am walking her.

Actually, most coyotes, at least in Oregon, could give two fucks about humans. We have a lot of yotes who live in the Suburbs of our cities, and are like the crows. You just see them as one of your neighbors.

@@TheCriminalViolin Honestly they get way to much hate here in Texas too. I've had one bad encounter with a Yote and it was rabid during daylight while I was taking care of my horses barn. It went into the woods and I went about my merry way, and since I've never had an issue. Have I encountered them since? Oh yeah I see Yotes all the time, but they never bother me or my animals unless they're rabid.

@@soulessshadow5356 Yeah. Honestly that's true for most if not all wild animals. They won't give a damn about you or be a risky to you unless they're rabid, mentally ill, starving or made to feel territorial/defensive. If you show them you're not a threat, and you give them the same generally respect and space you'd give your neighbor, they ultimately won't give a damn about you outside normal curiosity for some.

Must be a wolf. If its taller than a German Shepherd. Coyotes are knee high. Fox are way more cool. I see Coyote, Fox, Skunk, or Raccoons at least once every night. Fox are much smarter, curious, athletic and agile. The way they can duck under and hop fences and jump ditches and cut through underbrush while holding their tails straight out behind them perfectly stable is impressive.

Considering their habit of killing domestic animals, people may have a strong basis to hate them.

I grew up in coyote country, and never had an issue with them, until a pack of young males went and tore a friend's dog apart right in front of the school. I dont hate them, but i wouldnt say no to culling a portion of the population if they started getting too cocky around people and pets.

WOW! I live right by a state forest that's in the middle of my city- an urban state forest!🤩 I have developed a rather deep love for the coyotes here. This is pretty dang interesting, and good to know. I wonder how coy-wolves happen then? Cats do get eaten by coyotes, but what did the owners expect leaving their cat outside to fend for itself? ITs ok for the cat to kill hundreds of birds and other wildlife, but when the wildlife does the same in return its suddenly evil. If only there was a safe place to keep dogs and cats where wild animals cant kill them and vice versa

a coyote walked the perimeter of our family's yard once in broad daylight while we had about 10 guests all in the backyard having a BBQ. That freaked us all out.

I have them around my apartment building. As numerous as they are, they don't seem to make that much noise, and their calls can get a bit sobering, especially when I had a small dog with Small Dog Syndrome.

She then allies with the Dinosaur tribes, who are basically vikings. On the way he meets his many friends, a roach thief and his neighbor, a Sasquatch bodyguard and guide he hires, a Kookaburra bard who goes along with them because he thinks they have potential, and a cat who works at a potion shop and joins the cast because she was bored.

Wtf lol, most people who grow up with a parent (father OR mother) absent is bc said parent either passed away or won't commit to raising/being involved in the child's life, it's rarely because the mother or whatever thinks they can raise the kid in their own (which is fine btw). There are occasions where women intentionally withold their kids from their fathers out of spite, but to generalise even care as that is illogical.
