pretty spot on. I think you were onto something about the money to be made in football vs other american sports. I get shit on everytime i say this, but our best athletes don't grow up playing football or soccer. (i think i might just start spelling it futbol bc im actually confuse myself). Sports is huge in high school and college but traditionally the "soccer players" are seen more similar to the chess team than the American football team. They represent the nerdy and dorky guys versus american football players who are the big strong muscular guys with the cheerleader girlfriend. So it come down too perception, attention and talent. Honestly American attention span is the worse. Thats why the MLB had to install a pitch clock to move the game along.

Some really good points made here. Thank you for your comment. I often say this, imagine if the American football and basketball guys were nurtured to play soccer/futbol!! At first I thought this was just another BS AI-scripted AI-narrated video but I'm glad I clicked on it. Great video. There are many reasons why US soccer lags behind the world, but I never thought about the last point that you mentioned. Kids in Europe play to get out of poverty. Kids in South America play to not end up joining the gangs and cartels and dying in the street before they turn 25. Kids in the US play because they're privileged and their families have money. So there's no fires in them.

This is a really good analysis. I will say that this really does apply to men’s soccer more so than women. Women’s soccer in the US is among the best in the world. I think the reason is that our best women athletes tend to play soccer or basketball. Growing up, if you were a guy playing soccer, you weren’t seen as manly in a sense, which is unfortunate. It also doesn’t help that high school football and soccer are played in the fall. 9 times out of 10 the best high school athletes are going to choose American football

Well it's sort of a chicken and egg problem. As you pointed out, there's a severe lack of pro level competition in North America. With only around 100 pro teams in the whole of the North American continent, with only a fraction of those teams giving out decent contracts, it's just not enough of a realistic prospect to hope for. This is in contrast to the UK for example which has a similar number of pro clubs, but with a vastly smaller population. It has to be said, this isn't just a "soccer" problem in the US, all pro sports in the states are becoming more and more for the privileged few.

Focused on the other sports. Picked up soccer again in college due to friends wanting me to play and Fox Soccer channel broadcasting the big European leagues. I moved to France after college and played pick up soccer games in France, Spain, and England. Amazing amateur talent I played against in Europe. I was able to compete and keep up in the game bc of my elite speed and decent touch I picked up practicing on my own. All the Europeans were shocked I was an American playing so well. Great memories sure do miss it. I live in Oklahoma, we’ve had a few “academies” open and close here. Flamengo academy from Brazil attempted to open an academy and Cruz Azul. Im American, first gen, my family is Sicilian. In the 90s we all played, we as in immigrant families. You're spot on it was a girls sport, because soccer was seen as weak and floppy where as american football was seen as tough. Thats definitely propaganda that worked, cus america set out to be different and challenge europe hence the math, roadways, and even calling our football... football. Added on the fact Germany conquered much of europe and the US assistance basically helped liberate many nations, theres a added on painting of europeans as weak, thus soccer being a weak nancy boy sport. Also spot on about 94 WC being the big push cus that led to the MLS which led to DAVID BECKHAM! The TRUE hero of SOCCER. For football david was alright, but for soccer in america, we thought we got Messi. Thats when people started to watch soccer more because of LAG coverage around idk 2005ish i think it was. Anyways, i think thats why the perception and rise. Our problem is all the best athletes play American sports. Our best footballers are from military bases over seas so thats why our team got better and theres now americans in all the top leagues, but i dont think we will ever be like the PL money or Italia Serie A technical level until MLS draws all the best players and Americans stsrt caring cus Americans only care about America and our stuff. And no one (including the English) believe that they are. So there's that aspect: I think stylistically how different countries play has an effect on how well their players develop. And I think England itself has not necessarily benefited there by (as the stereotype argues) prioritizing effort over skills. This is changing though. You need to research Bethlehem Steel and the soccer wars that occurred in the 1920s and 1930s. Steel FC based out of Bethlehem, PA was at one time one of the best football/soccer clubs in the world taking in some of the best players from Europe and holding their own against the best clubs Europe had to offer. But competing leagues, the Great Depression, racism and anti-immigrant outrage and sabotage from interests both corporate and political associated with the other major sports league in the country pretty much destroyed what could have been the seed for completely changing the whole landscape of American soccer/football. If several events had not taken place during that time, a giant professional division one football/league with pro and reg for the leagues below could have been born in the US that would have rivaled the European top flight and solidified US Soccer as a world powerhouse. Imagine an American sports landscape where soccer/football rivaled American football, baseball and basketball and legendary athletes who played in those sports decided to lace up boots instead. All kids can play football. In Europe only a few can play basketball andI mean only a few. Everybody plays soccer. After the US women were embarrassed in the World Cup, they have reloaded with some new players. When the men get like that…they can win a World Cup. African Americans have turned away from baseball because of travel teams and football has the same problem.

@@OutRegisTV Hahaha for sure! Dude, you touch on a crucial point. Do you want to know what Brazil's secret is? Until I was 10 years old, every birthday I had I got a soccer ball. Every boy in Brazil gets this gift. From the richest to the poorest. Nobody pays to play here. It's a democratic sport and Brazil will always reveal players because it is simply the most populous country where this sport is number one. More people playing, more talents appearing and not necessarily in the favelas. Some of Brazil's greatest players were middle class. Just to name a few; Kaka, Rivelino, Zico, Sócrates, Raí, Gerson,... there are many.

@@mvbelobelo6303 I didn’t know this, every kid getting a ball as a gift a so cool! Being the biggest sport there is a huge component. I like to think that the kids there play bare foot, on different surfaces like sand, concrete, and grass, all these things help so much. Football is a religion there, and I LOVE that fact. Some of my favorite players are from Brazil. R9 Ronaldo Nazario is my GOAT!!! I will do a special video on him one day. Every school has a futsal court that will be used in physical education classes but it will also be full during recess because the children will play there.

@@OutRegisTV Ronaldo R9 would be Pelé's successor. Messi fans forgive me, Ronaldo was more talented than Messi and stronger than Cristiano Ronaldo. Unfortunately, injuries and an unruly lifestyle shortened his career a lot. During Ronaldo's time, we had Romário inspiring players with the idea that the good were good and didn't need to train or take care of themselves. R9 smoked between games, was always overweight, went partying, didn't care about nutrition and still did everything he did. I wonder where he would have ended up if he had been more professional.

We are not the best in the world and thst is ok. Soccer is not in our DNA like other countries. So be it. That being said cam you imagine if an Allen Iverson type athlete started off with a soccer ball instead of a basketball. We have the talent but not funneled towards soccer.

The only places that care about soccer are the wealthy suburbs and the poorest Latino slums, you have to get people in the middle but until you get the best athletes in American high school on the pitch rather than a football field or basketball court then nothing else matters. Our striker is an English citizen raised in London. Yes there are 350 million of us but probably less than 25 million care about soccer and only a couple million of those are black and white native born Americans.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated 🙌🏾 I think going to the best high school to play at best level is part of the problem. Should a player have to go to a good school to be considered a good player? It’s not like that in Europe, and other countries. To bridge the gap between high school, academies, universities, and going pro is the key ingredient. How, and when I don’t know, but it’s conversations like these that are important. I think people do care (to some degree lol) but obviously not as much as the rest of the world. They just have so many great options in sports to choose from.

Your opinion is somewhat valid. But…. Should a player have to go into debt to play football or pursue their dream? What about before college? What about you teens and under 10’s Costing thousands of dollars a year, just to play? It has to start from grass roots, not just at a college level. You do realize that in Europe and other parts of the world you don’t need to go to college to play football at a high level, but here you do…. It all stems from grassroots football, no matter how you dissect it. I appreciate your feedback
