To be 100% honest, at 04:06 it sounds a bit over saturated. But the phase response or else seem to make the original low-end of the track disappear when boosting the highs. I won't lie, on the mixbus, I preferred it bypass all the time :/. The drive seems ok at small doses (or extreme for effect). The compressor seem utilitarian (not amazing but useful if dynamic control is needed). But the EQ really seem to be the weak link here. I think, since plugins are getting so good and hardware had been pushed so far, it's now a matter of preference above else. So when buying hardware, you need to make sure you can get your money back somehow (or make a profit) when selling it in the future. And these kind of modules are so cheap, that it is going to be hard to see their value increase in the future I feel. Especially when buying them new. Yes they are cheap so the loss will be lower but still... And that's a thing that most RU-vidrs don't talk about (some do). But that makes sense because a lot of them got the products for free or for a very reduced price (so they will make their money back, I am not saying it is your case here tho'). Thanks for the video!
Thank you for this! HRK is an awesome company and Bart makes some awesome pieces! In all fairness, I’ve shot out the RND 542’s vs the HRK 552’s and I picked the HRK’s 9/10. My CS566’s live on my mixbus and have caused me to consider another stereo pair! Great modules!
I’ve had a chance to A/B them with my SSL big Six console eq’s. I recorded two different instruments mic’d the same way through each unit. The SSL sounded just a wee bit smoother to my 64 year old ears. Purely subjective I know but that’s my experience. I’ve decided to keep my HRK, the price is great.
One of the things I notice about gear that is generally more expensive, is the quality allows me to work faster. So is £3000 too much for a channel strip? Not if it saves me a week of my time every year for ten years. Plus there's the additional benefit of time saved leading to better creative choices.
I really like my pair of CS566s - a lot of value for money. The Solid State Drive and the transformer is my favorite part. Just gives me a bit of fairy dust thats hard to get with plugins
How does it perform on vocals? Im thinking about integrating analog 500s. vocal chain for my live performances. Do you think CS566 is good candidate for eq and comp section?
@@samnarjinary Paul Third and I are comparing mixes on our new season of The Working Audio Tools podcast (PLAPA) starting this Saturday. He’s fully ITB on headphones and I’m Hybrid with speakers. Very differing methods and very different approaches makes for interesting listening.
@@EdThorne I bought the Warm Audio Wa73EQ, Wa2a, Wa76 because I’ve been watching your videos and now I see you switch to the 500 series. I still have them looking to replace em with the Neve 1073LB, Heritage Audio Tubesessor. Any recommendations? I currently have the SSL Fusion & the Neve 5057 Orbit.
@@djonlyvibe I'm using both. I still use my WA76 and WA2A on vocals in every mix and for tracking! They're great! I have upgraded the WA73 to a Neve 1073lb. I'm looking at the 5057 too, how is it? Have you compared it to the 542s for example?
