Why and How Inductor does not allow sudden change in currents
Gas discharge lamp operation in brief: First, when the power is first switched on, the igniter/starter (which is wired in parallel across the lamp) sets up a small current through the ballast and starter. This creates a small magnetic field within the ballast windings. A moment later the starter interrupts the current flow from the ballast, which has a high inductance and therefore tries to maintain the current flow (the ballast opposes any change in current through it); it cannot, as there is no longer a 'circuit'. As a result, a high voltage appears across the ballast momentarily - to which the lamp is connected, therefore the lamp receives this high voltage across it which 'strikes' the arc within the tube/lamp. The circuit will repeat this action until the lamp is ionized enough to sustain the arc.
When the lamp sustains the arc, the ballast performs its second function, to limit the current to that needed to operate the lamp. The lamp, ballast and igniter are rated matched to each other; these parts must be replaced with the same rating as the failed component or the lamp will not work.
In this video, we will explore the topic of inductors and their ability to prevent sudden changes in electrical currents. Understanding how inductors work is important in the field of electronics, as they are commonly used in circuits to stabilize electrical currents. By the end of this video, you will have a better understanding of why and how inductors prevent sudden current changes.
We will start by discussing the basics of inductors and their purpose in electrical circuits. From there, we will delve into the science behind inductors and explain how they work to prevent sudden changes in current. We will also touch on the concept of inductive reactance and how it affects the behavior of electrical circuits.
Next, we will cover the types of inductors and their applications in real-world scenarios. We will also discuss the importance of selecting the correct inductor for a particular circuit to ensure optimal performance.
Finally, we will provide some practical tips for using inductors effectively in your own projects. Whether you are a hobbyist or a professional, this information will be invaluable in your pursuit of creating stable and reliable electrical circuits.
