Support me on BOOSTY:
boosty.to/nikzvi First of all I would like to say that this is a recommendation video.
Depending on your level of skating, on the place where you're skating, on your skating style or the discipline that your prefer you can choose whehter to skate ina full protection gear set or to skate without any protection at all. Although I do recommend to use protection while performing almost any type OF skating activity, BE THAT A recreation skating or crazy downhills, agressive skating or slalom (some of these cones could be rather sharp...) finally there are onely two things that you always need to skate these are two skates? preferably the left one and the right one. Other things influence only where you will skate in the end
to the success or to the hospital or even a tomb. oN THAT positive note let's start
hello yt and . And this is my subjective rating of proetction gear items starting from the most important to the less important ones.
but there is one not physical thing that i strongly recommend to use every time when you're skating. I will give it a number ZERO in my protection means rating
That is a common sense.
yes
don't try the tricks that you'r not ready to
don't skate in a traffic without a real need ( i have separate video on it,
don't skate on a speed that you don't control (especially downhill) and all that things.
Also don't forget to make a good warm up before any severe activity. that can save your health even better when any physical protection. Don'ty skate when you're drunk and don't smoke, you will need a good lungs for skating marathons
but what about a protection gear
Number 1 and the main one.. and of course it's a helmet. Yes you probably know a lot of skaters that have hurt their knees elbows and wrists and maybe a lot less skater s that have hurt their head while skating, but that' s probably because they just cant tell about that. Because in that case one hit is enough. I've started wearing helmet permanently after that fall, seeing a few centimeters that were between my temple and the sharp stones of that stairs. I also recommend you to watch that video from Bogdan where he talks why he is always wearing a helmet. And he is not a DIY amateur skater like I am, he is a professional skating instructor. Helmets save lifes.
Number two wrist guards the smallest part of a protection set but very important. In fact it is rather easy to break a wrist on inline skates. it is one of the most populsr traumas between newbies in skating/ Hand is usually the first body part that tpuches the ground when you're falling and if this fall was unexpected it is very important to protect the wrist joint. Also, even if you're not falling, you just lost a balance for a second and it's naturally to try to catch something with a hand and sometimes the city surfaces are not very welcome? you can scratch you hand poke it etc wrist guard will save you in that case also. sometimes you just need only one touch to restore your balance back.
Number three knee pads my wife hates when I have scratched knees. And the thing is that i usually use the knee first to restore lost balance. I don't fall completely a lot but when I'm tripping a knee touch could save me from a fall even without using of a hands. I'm not making huge tricks so breaking a knee is not of a big danger to me but scratching is a problem so I try to use knee pads most of the time.
And the last one, but also important is an elbow pad. I keep my elbows far from the ground almost all the time but when I practice some backwards the risk of falling on my ass and back is rather high and in that case elbows will get the hit also. What is important for elbow pads and also for knee pads is to have a proper size that fits you well otherwise they just can slide away and that happende to me a lot
Other from that I don't use any other protection gear. BUt you can use whatever you want a crash pants a cup, or even a turtle back protection.
And don't think that to use protection is not cool . To die because of your ownh stupidity that is not cool.

I had a minor concussion over the winter. Not from skating -- I fell on the ice walking my dog. Gave me a new appreciation for how my helmet saved my brain a couple times 🤣

It's all about risk assessment for sure. I wear the protection I deem necessary for my skill level and what I'm doing. For rec/transport when I'm cruising I wear wrist guards and knee pads. At the skatepark (my skills are very basic) I wear everything - helmet, elbow pads, wrist guards, crash pants, knee pads and shin guards. I don't think I'll ever do stair rolls! Having said all that it's impossible to mitigate for every risk.

You're right, risk assessment. With me the problem is that the desire to make something more dangerous than just simple recreational/commute skating can come to my mind unexpectedly, so I m trying to be always ready for it:)

Get good fitting pads, preferably with sleeves that wrap around your joint. I used some without a sleeve and scraped my knees and elbows pretty badly when they slipped off on a downhill fall. At least the pads absorbed the impact force.

Hi Hi Nik, I personally made several mistakes when starting out on inline skates. The first was that you have to train on a flat surface. I started on a bit of an incline with an elevation. Another was an inappropriate push. When a person learns it wrong, he does it wrong for a long time. My next misstep was speed. Seeing your videos when you're going fast is very motivating, but I've learned that I need to start riding slower. Mainly because of the surfaces. Driving in our small town, where in front of every apartment building there are different tiles, asphalt, concrete, pieces of branches, rockeries, is completely different than, for example, on the cyclo asphalt in Germany, or even in your place in Saint Petersburg. Also the fact that if someone wants to take this sport seriously, they shouldn't start with soft boot skates. That's how I started. A mistake. I should have gone to buy more expensive hard boot skates right away. About 150 euros and more. Protectors are also important. Seeing how you and others like you are doing without protectors can mislead beginners. Even if a person has protectors and falls, he can also fall on his knuckles. Previous mistakes cost me both broken wrists. That's why there are so many new skates for sale in bazaars. Allegedly due to lack of time or the size of the shoe 😄😄😄.. Nevertheless, I continue on, watching your videos, but if I could turn back time like this: 1. Hard boot 2. Protectors 3. Push training. 4. Power stop. 5 jumps 6. Back skating... And only then increasing the speed. I wish you good health. Your subscriber inline skater jojo from Ružomberok, Slovakia. 🫶👈

Hi JoJo! Thanks a lot for such a great comment! I totally agree with all your points and it's a pity that you had to pass through some injuries while finding the proper way of learning how to skate. Hope all the negative parts of inline skating are already in the past.Good luck 🤞

Good video in general but a bit too much moralizing in this video for my taste. Even the smoker got some unnecessary advice. Let him smoke, it's perhaps one of the few pleasures he has left that he's willingly traded for less health.
@NikZvi
@NikZvi 2 года назад
Ok, I understood you. Most moralisation content here is included for a comical effect. Smoker actually didn't recive any advice, the subtitles are lying a little bit. In fact I've just said: "No, I don't smoke". I use too much sarcasm sometimes, that's my problem.
