I think Anna deserves a lot more credit than she gets. In my opinion, Anna is the 5th spirit, the bridge, the leader and the hero. She helps her sister to find herself. Elsa is who she is because of Anna. Elsa tries, but Anna is the one who doesn't give up and keep going strong to make things possible for Elsa. I always wish I could be Elsa, not because of magical powers but to have a sister like Anna.

If someone is able to survive not seeing her beloved sister for many years, the tragic death of her parents, being betrayed by the man she loved, and then the death of her sister and olaf and still have the courage to save a damn kingdom and her own sister, that person is definitely the strongest character you can ever imagine...

Alicia Lockwood Your point is? Anna is the hero of the franchise. Without her Elsa would be dead and would probably never learned how to control her powers. Anna is the leader and Elsa is the protector, it’s literally been stated by the people who made the movie that that’s what their roles are.
@JinxSanity
@JinxSanity 4 года назад
Sadly Anna never really got her own "Let It Go!" moment to shine, even in F2. Really Elsa gets all the big CGI spectacle moments that Disney will promote , but in reality Anna is the true hero and the one who has change and struggle as a character, as oppose to Elsa still stuck in that tired "Stay away Anna! I will hurt you!!" personality and resuming to isolation at the end just like she wanted to do in F1. I don't blame Disney either as the fandom has a ton of blame too, Wth the over adoration Elsa got and the crossovers and the stupid ship with the Insufferable Jack Frost who the fans have him downright STEAL Anna's sacrifice moment for their stupid romance arc therefore lessening Anna's importance even more (even stealing Anna's fun personality for Jack). Anna needs more love and the fans have failed her.
@short_cake4212
@short_cake4212 4 года назад
In a way, Anna not getting a big 'Let It Go!' makes sense. Being like a fairy tale character, her development doesn't need to be big and grandeur because she is an ordinary person. She doesn't need a song to show her development as a person because she is doing so through her choices.She actively responds to and creates moments within the story because she is her own driving force. With Elsa, she barely changed and like a lot of heroes in myths, hasn't actually changed much and instead relies on the situations around her to decide what she will do or how she acts. Like Aeneas, for example, both Elsa and Aeneas are pushed to do something by an outer force to do something and then act depending on what the situation brings.

juan ortiz one thing I don’t get is why so many people hare or just annoyed with Anna. She is a relatable character. Even though at first I wanted to be like Elsa, I saw that I am like Anna especially the quirky personality which is not a a bad thing. I do agree with tour points. Hate to say it, I am a jelsa fan, but it never gets in the way of how I feel about Anna as a character.

@magnificloud

Idk why but I've never been attached to Elsa as a character. She seems like more of a force than a person. A thing that happens. I always saw her as the woman with the crown, the dress, the powers, and the song. I was never attached to her, I just thought she was pretty. Anna, however, now _that's_ a hero. I didn't like her at first for being gullible and trusting, but she really is a heroic person. She is just so womanly and I feel like she's more of a protagonist than Elsa is in my opinion. I know they are equals AND characters but I feel like I really had to dig more with Elsa to find her as a character and a person than I had to with Anna.

Elsa was based off the snow queen in the original fairy tale, which was a true villain. Anna, however, was based on Gerda, a true protagonist. I think this is why most of the challenges that Anna faced began with Elsa. In a way she made Anna's life more difficult.

But Anna is in Airendelle, which takes place in Norway, between 1839 and 1840. So how would Sadira be a descendant of Anna when Sadira was born roughly 1040 years BEFORE Anna? Sadira is from the past, not the future. And why would Sadira be born on a completely different continent than Anna was born? Elsa's growth was different. She had to learn to accept herself. As a little girl she was made to fear who she was. Let it go was her way of learning to accept herself. She had to be alone because her fear was what held her back. That fear was due to who she is and what it can do to those she loves. She needed to be alone because she had to learn to give her powers freedom and she was right in fearing the danger they posed. She had suppressed herself for so long to protect her people and Anna that she never really learned how to use her gift. Being alone she was able to do just that and once that was done, once she allowed herself her freedom to be herself she was able to go home. I think you missed the point. Elsa's journey was internal. Her journey was to learn to love and accept herself. Anna's journey was to grow up to be an adult. I always thought that she had been taught to be queen because of Elsa's gift but was too childish. Anna seemed to grow more because her journey was external, growing up and becoming a responsible adult, Elsa had already done that, her journey was internal, she was loved but she felt she couldn't accept that love because of who she is and cannot love herself. She needed distance to be herself for a moment to get perspective and learn to love herself then embrace the love given to her

Dude, the 5th spirit is NOT a 5th element. Ice magic is just a quirk given to her from Ahtohallan. There ISN'T a 5th element. The 5th spirit is the bridge between humans and spirits. After all, if ice is a 5th element than it means that only Elsa is the 5th spirit, which is not true because both sisters are the 5th spirit. Also, imagine what would've happened if Elsa didn't put Anna and Olaf in the boat. She would've taken them with her to The Dark Sea and they had died by drowning because of the large waves and Nøkk. Elsa can defend herself, but having to also make sure Anna and Olaf will be OK will put a lot of work on her and they'll likely die. You've seen how much Elsa struggled fighting Nøkk so just imagine how hard time Anna and Olaf will have against it. Yes, it's true that Anna and Olaf might've died from the boat slide, but they didn't because Elsa knew they'll be safer there whereas The Dark Sea is a 100% death trap for them. Therefore that decision paid off well. Lastly, HOW WAS IT A REHASH OF THE FIRST MOVIE? The first movie was a sisterly conflict and the second movie is a curse mystery. The conflict in the first movie wasn't presented again here. Elsa has full control over her powers so she doesn't isolate herself. She only seperated herself from Anna and Olaf because The Dark Sea is too dangerous for them, not because SHE HERSELF is dangerous.

It was very satisfying to see Anna in theaters becoming queen 🎶 Throughout the Frozen franchise, we have seen her grow up from her misguided viewpoint of love that made her act so immature in the first film to a viewpoint that's more grounded and mature. Adding to her personality that's more outgoing and people-person, she fits more to rule over a nation as a loving and understanding queen. 😃 We could have seen her develop a tad way more though from the deleted scenes. We could have gotten an Anna who no longer rushes in a wedlock just to cope with loneliness to one who realistically measures her marriage life with Kristoff, even considering to withdraw from their engagement (because Kristoff supposed to have an arc where he dislikes his life in Arendelle because of the pressures of becoming Lord). We could have also gotten an Anna who makes bolder decisions over her kingdom, such as making new laws and re-establishing the reason of Arendelle's existence from a deceiftul history because of the past sins of a king. These are legit grown-up stuff! It goes to show how Anna as a character is in great hands within the writing department. If ever we get to see Frozen 3, we could see even better improvements for Anna. Hopefully with her queen arc, we could get to see Arendelle beyond just a "play kingdom", as so far is being depicted in this whole franchise. 😁

I've never really enjoyed Elsa or Anna, as separate characters, or sister's, it's always felt very one sided, they never REALLY worked together, Elsa never felt like a caring older sister (apart from Frozen fever) she would just do what ever she wanted and Anna would just fix this it all, it felt like Disney wanted their "perfect" strong sister duo, but they didn't actually know what REAL sister's acted like, and if Anna wasn't so dependant and blindly loving toward Elsa, she wouldn't have put up with half the stuff Elsa pulled. But yes, Anna was the real hero!❄️🔥💧🌬️🌱
@TH-jd8ft
@TH-jd8ft 4 года назад
But they act as they would've per their circumstances don't they? Elsa spent years locked away and not allowed to play with her sister. They were young when that happened, so while they had great memories beforehand, Anna doesn't remember almost dying, but Elsa remembers almost killing her and being isolated for years because of it. While everyone wants the warm cozy family that Disney typically is, people need to realize that Anna's never had to question or limit who she was but Elsa did. Anna's clingy behavior makes sense to not knowing why her sister didn't want to play anymore. And Elsa's need to be solo makes sense to who she was forced to be for years by her parents during her formative years. I mean seriously look at the scenes of their childhood before the incident. Elsa was a big sister.
@kezzy7689
@kezzy7689 4 года назад
@@TH-jd8ft Not really no, The "My parents locked me up from the world, and taught me to fear myself" shouldn't conclude with "So i'm gonna fly solo in the woods" the whole message of Frozen was "were not meant to be locked away and alone", A lot of people view "Let it go" strictly as a empowerment anthem, but in the context of the movie, Elsa is shutting herself off from the world and running away from her problems, her powers are killing the entire kingdom and she is causing the exact kind of pain and suffering, and becoming the villain she always feared she would become, Elsa's entire story is realizing abandoning everything she loved was the opposite of what she needed, And the fact that Anna is blindly clingy, because she didn't know why Elsa wouldn't play with her anymore, doesn't make it any less wrong, In the cut song "Life's too short" the relationship between them is handled much better, It is a slow progression of Anna and Elsa Assuming things about one another, and BOTH being WRONG, Anna want's things to go back to normal, but Elsa will need to put on the gloves, and Elsa wants to be free, but doesn't want to fix her mess, and they both make GREAT points, They both feel like REAL people with faults, Anna is naive and kind dump, and Elsa is Selfish and distant, which culminates in Elsa freezing Anna's heart, Were in "For the first time in forever Reprise" Anna is completely open and forgiving, and Elsa Is STILL selfish and scared, but Elsa doesn't take responsibility and keeps running away, And when Elsa freezer Anna, Elsa DOESN'T EVEN STEP UP and be the older sister she needs to be, Anna saves HER, and Elsa never takes the blame, the RESPONSIBILITY as a big sister, Elsa does irresponsible and horrible things, and were all meant to just wave it away Anna LOVE'S her, and doesn't hold Elsa accountable for any bad thing she does because Elsa is her sister. That is Toxic. And i think Anna being OK and happy with Elsa doing all these selfish things , makes her more Dump than smart, but Disney couldn't have Anna call Elsa out on her bad behavior, After all they couldn't Have they're "Strong female heroin" be WRONG? now could they. idk feels like that to me.

And all that "Elsa can take care of herself, Anna can't" stuff doesn't even matter because ELSA FREEZES AND OLAF DIES! leaving Anna grieving and being forced to step up and fix the past! Unlike ELSA! XD surely Anna would warn Elsa about "Going too far" and try to work out something better, i still don' t get the whole "going too far and you'll be drowned" thingy, cause she had to "go too far" to find the truth and set the people free but whatever, It's seems like the plot is conveniently in Elsa's favor, sure she back stabbed Anna but it's OK, it all worked out in the end right? so you're kinda right in a way. How is "Show Yourself" finish what "Let it go" started? "let it go" was an "I'm free and running away from my problems" song, and "Show Yourself" was a "I am the chosen one, i'm the best, I'm the one I've been waiting for all of my life!" song, "Show Yourself" Isn't even about her parents or even the truth about Arendelle's horrible origin, it's about Elsa finding out she's "THE CHOSEN ONE" it's a total " all about me song" while she cries and Looks at her mum.

Personally, I agree with what you said. The first time I watched the film the only song that stuck out to me (or that I connected too) was "The Next Right Thing." I really enjoyed the song because I'm a sucker for the scenes in movies where the protagonists are at their lowest but then manage to find the determination or that spark of hope. Also the song hits me on a personal level. I feel the second movie as a whole was very rushed for the story it was trying to tell, it seemed like they weren't letting the story naturally write it'self and they were trying to hard to control the flow, as if they are trying to hit all of these check marks that the media has placed out for them. I didn't feel Else was rounded enough as a character, the whole point of her story arc was finding who she really was but instead I think that the story told WHAT she was instead of WHO she was. I think they just wanted to explain to the audience why she had her powers so they used that not as a base to work off of while developing her story but used it as her soul purpose. I feel like they should have kept the tale to them finding out how Elsa had her powers instead of trying to repeat the same character arc as the first one. let me try and explain better. Else closed herself up from the world out of fear that people would persecute her, the point of the movie was her trying to control her powers and learning to except that they are apart of her and to not fear them, at the end of the film she had done that. With the second one they should have kept the two separate, they could have developed Elsa as a person instead of a person with powers, they could have discovered the reason why Elsa had her powers but that didn't have a deep connection to Elsa herself, or in other words that isn't all to Elsa's character. Her powers are apart of her, but they aren't all of her. I feel like they should have focused on their parents more, like their love story because that's why Elsa got her powers, because her parent's people where enemies but despite that these two kids showed love towards someone who they were suppose to hate. This is a very important key to her story but instead of flushing it out and showing the audience why these two people where so special they seemed to throw it under the rug and mention it briefly. This could also explain why her parents where desperate to keep Elsa's powers a secret to begin with. Their father's people had a history against their mothers people who were of nature and lived along side the spirits, so how would the citizens take to a child who had powers of nature?! They obviously didn't reveal the queens true identity, probably because they feared the citizens of the kingdom would persecute her or worse. This is also why I feel like Anna is the true hero of the story and why she should have been the fifth spirit (if there needed to be one). Anna showed constant love towards her sister despite how Elsa treated her (Like her parents love). Watching the film I noticed that they threw songs in scenes at times when they weren't needed. The songs were just used as fillers for time, time they could have used to develop the story and characters. I'm not saying that songs can't tell a story or develop characters it's just that a lot of the songs they used didn't really do that... or if they had, they weren't very effective. I also feel like Kristoff didn't get the love he deserved in this film and the creators neglected him. That's all my thoughts (or most of them) of Frozen 2, thank you for reading them (if you did).

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree- BOTH Elsa and Anna are the heroes of this franchise. Don't tell me that Elsa ISN'T a hero for dedicating almost her entire childhood to isolating herself from society, in order to protect others from her own growing power. Yes, she was also afraid of being treated like a monster, but she never wanted to harm anyone as well. I thought that the Corona induced isolation was giving people more insight on what Elsa had to endure, but I wouldn't think that someone as observant as you would think that only ANNA should be given all the applause. She doesn’t have to be ruled by fear. I will admit, her getting to that conclusion happens a liiiiitle too quickly-in the last three minutes of the movie-but nevertheless, I still believe it’s a powerful arc. Frozen 2.... I’ve learned to like it well enough but I was honestly rather disappointed. Elsa’s arc in that one is a whole other thing. Honestly I could write a whole essay about Frozen😅But yeah. I definitely agree that Anna is an amazing hero but I think some of the disappointment against Elsa's development is a bit erroneous. I think it's a flaw of society that we only accept personal growth to mean that you are more outgoing and confident with others than you were before (as is the case with Anna's growth). In reality there are at least two types of ways that people grow personally. The Extrovert's path is well understood and well received socially but the Introvert's personal growth is often looked down on or dismissed. Elsa was an Introvert trying to live as an Extrovert. In Frozen 1 she made considerable progress in realizing that she was an Introvert but then cast that learning aside to live as a more social Extrovert because she wanted to be like her sister. But in Frozen 2 we see that the strain of being an Introvert in a Extrovert's world is exceptionally demanding and Elsa had learn that she made a mistake in trying to be an Extrovert like her sister. She was never meant to be Queen and she took on a role that she wasn't suited for at the end of Frozen 1. At the time it LOOKED like a personal growth because she was being more like Anna, the Extrovert. But in reality it was a poetic acknowledgment that Elsa once again locked herself inside to satisfy the demands of others. I'm not saying that Anna or anyone else was demanding something bad of Elsa, I'm simply saying that the demand was a social common expectancy, be more outgoing and interactive while you take care of your responsibilities. Because Elsa never actually resolved the conflict between her personality and the society around her, much less her desire to be like her little sister, Elsa HAD to repeat her internal struggle (though without some of the extra emotional baggage of guilt over nearly killing her sister). That's why she cringed over her iconic moment of "Let it go", she was attempting to deny her need for solace and solitude in favor of trying to be the Extrovert everyone expected of the "hero". To my knowledge Elsa is one of the first Introvert heroes in media, or at least in Disney, and so her personal growth looks odd to most people who struggle to understand what Introverts feel. To be clear, I absolutely agree with the assessments you made about myth vs fairy tale and about Anna's heroic leadership abilities. My view is simply that Elsa did have more personal growth than many seem to understand. But there's another point to Anna's growth at the end of Frozen 2 that I think has been overlooked. She finally learned to LET Elsa be an Introvert. She learned how to interact with an Introvert by still being supportive and interactive but also giving her sister space to be alone. Throughout the series Anna was understandably a bit clingy to her sister, and always trying to push her support and help onto Elsa, by the end however, in addition to her other personal growths, Anna learned how to let go of her need to not let Elsa be alone. As I've said, Anna is an Extrovert and like an Extrovert thought that Elsa needed constant interaction, support, and companionship; but all those things that make sense to an Extrovert were actually putting undo stress and pressure on the Introvertive Elsa and causing her pain. Elsa had to learn how to stop letting herself be pressured into being an Extrovert while at the same time that she was learning of her magical destiny. Anna had to learn to let her sister be alone but not lonely. Balancing a relationship between an Extrovert and an Introvert is extremely difficult because their natures are so drastically different, but it's a balance that we finally see achieved at the end of Frozen 2, as opposed to the imbalanced relationship we saw at the end of Frozen 1. I hope this helps someone understand what it's like to have a need to avoid others and how to interact with them in ways that let's the Introvert feel safe enough to handle the relationship you offer.

This isn't exactly big news. I know the media loves to focus on Elsa, but the media hardly ever depicts reality. Most people love Anna and her arc more, and in the meantime people usually love Tangled more. It's not something new to me. While I can agree with the audience, I can't find myself being thrilled about it because there was so much potential to the Frozen franchise. I relate to calm, regal women just as much as I relate to women like Rapunzel, and it frustrates me to see how heated this discussion has become. Just look at the deleted scenes from both films and you'd see that we could've have a better story with investment in taking the time for the characters to bond, like Rapunzel and Eugene for example. Instead, what we got was a checklist of pop culture feminist viewpoints. It's like they had a meeting and the goals were: Make the sisters quirky and "not like other girls." Have someone be saved by sisterly love because boys and romance are icky. Make sure the men have to sit down and talk about their feelings. Oh, and don't forget they have to spend the whole film pining for the strong independent women (because that's all the past princesses ever did with their lives, right?). None of this is necessarily a bad thing, but they shouldn't have been the focus of the story. I think what they should have done for the first film was to have Anna and Elsa stuck together to fix the situation. Then they would be forced to argue, problem solve, be stuck in uncomfortable situations with each other. Anna wants love and connections while Elsa wants to protect people at a safe distance. Once they could understand and learn from each other their sisterly bond would be believable. These movies didn't want to slow down or focus on what's really important. What makes movies like Tangled work is that they know when it's the right time to have speedy action and when it's time for the characters to stop and reflect or relax.

I 100% agree that Anna is the true hero. Elsa resists her conditioning, which is to be concealed and solitary, but never truly battles against it, and eventually at the end of Frozen 2, succumbs to it. IMO: though she is clumsy, naïve, and gassy, Anna’s will of fire and her capacity for love and warmth is just as powerful, if not more so, than Elsa’s ice powers. It was satisfying to see Anna promoted to queen, finally achieving some level of equality to her sister, though I think Elsa’s motivations for the promotion, in addition to following her own destiny, are rooted in her deep desire to distance herself from everyone who threatens to warm her frosty heart. She grew up being taught to conceal, not feel, and lie to everyone around her, and ultimately that has led her to prefer being alone, where she never feels the need to hide herself. I wonder if she will ever truly open up to those around her... if anyone can convince her that she is worth being loved for who she is (and even embracing her own darkness), it would be Anna.

I really liked this episode because I totally agree with your points. I think Elsa has always struggled but for different reasons. In the first movie it was coming to terms with her powers and in the second movie, to me at least, it’s more of coming to terms with her past. I love both Anna and Elsa and connected to both of them for different reasons. PS: Personally I think both of them have amazing character development.

Finally, some good food. This is why I say that Anna should have been the Fifth Spirit as Love, and not Elsa. Love takes many forms and isn't an element. Love is a concept that everything, including spirits and humans can understand. Anna's love and her strength is like nothing I've ever seen before. I personally think that Elsa shouldn't have been the one to go deep into Ahtohallan. Elsa could never handle many things and Ahtohallan warned her about going too far right before she jumped down. Anna's strength would have been better suited to that. Then they could have broken the dam together. Anna willingly destroying the dam should have been rewarded with magic. Yeah she got the kingdom, and yeah she would be better at it than Elsa....But lets face it, Anna got Arendelle sloppy seconds style. Elsa never wanted the kingdom, so it's not so much a reward for Anna as it is a burden that Elsa wanted off her back so she could be free in the forest. Anna fully expected Arendelle to be destroyed and had no idea that it would be saved. The spirits should have rewarded her with magic, or at the very least, Anna should have been the Fifth spirit. It's not fair that Anna basically got NOTHING for going through everything she did.

I agree. At first even I felt that Elsa was better cause she's the one with the powers and dresses, but after sometime, I didn't feel attached to her. My love for her started fading away, and my attention was slowly coming to Anna. At last, I felt much more comfortable when watching Anna... I'm more like her! And agree or disagree, Anna is a much more realistic character than Elsa. Plus, Anna has personality. I would say she's very open, and dosen't feel forced to act like someone else. She also has developed a lot. She isn't that I-Dont-Know girl anymore, she has become cool, smart, responsible, and overall, an amazing person. Because she isn't good just as a character, but also an actual person. Elsa, on the other hand, didn't show much improvement. She was still that Do-it-yourself woman and still wasn't that open. I felt happy when I Anna smiles. She didn't even know anything, but still, that made no difference to her because she loves Elsa. That's the kindest act of love you'll ever find. But Elsa stan argue with people appreciating Anna saying that Elsa is better or Anna is stupid.

It was shown she only isolated herself cuz she was scared she would hurt her again but she seemingly gets over this after she learns about the power of love at the end. Wait am I the only one who just... Doesn't like Anna's character? I can't relate to an extrovert, so I just don't connect with her at all. However, Elsa had a more realistic growth to me. She couldn't grow around people, she was pressured by them, she HAD to grow on her own, that's part of her character. I feel like the worst part of the story was 'Okay now this character is happy with themself but we've gotta ruin it for them cause plot' was how it felt. She connected with her sister, which was nice, but the connection didn't feel real. Why? Cause they felt like two extrovert sisters connecting, and that's not Elsa. Elsa cares for her sister, but shes anxious and that's why her backwards progress at the start of the second film makes sense. Anna is like a rolling Stone, and keeps going and going. Else trips and stumbles and regresses a bit, which is part of recovering from something tramatic or healing. People like Anna and I get that, but talking about Elsa's completely realistic development and growth as if it's sub par compared to Anna seems more like a preference of how people think recovery is vs how it usually is. I get that Anna seems like she had more progress, but just because someone has made more progress doesn't mean the others progress is bad. Elsa will probably never be where Anna is, and that's cause where Anna is isn't where everyones going to be. Elsa's not going to grow like Anna, Anna is a different person and her best and happiest is not Elsa's. It may seem like Elsa has less growth, but they have different end points. Elsa's coming to terms with herself and her purpose, Anna is coming to terms with her place in the world around her. Comparing the developments really seems like an unsatisfactory explanation as why you dont like a character development, cause that implies the two sisters are exactly alike and are going for the same goal and the same attitudes, so they should be making the same progress towards the same thing at the same rate. But that couldn't be farther from the truth.

I thumbs down several of your videos and couldn't bring myself to reply because it hurt too much. Some of us can't run into a fight when we're emotional. All of this to say that I appreciate this video. Thank you for not attacking Elsa anymore. I'm glad you're able to focus on Anna's strengths and can see how the sisters fit together to create a fuller story. It was nice to hear you being positive about Disney again. One thing that really upset me about Frozen 2 was when the creators said that Anna had nothing to lose in Frozen 1. And I'm like, um what? Anna lost NEARLY EVERYTHING in Frozen 1. What she had left to lose was Elsa, her last remaining family. Anna had her memories tampered with, she lost her sister and best friend, she lost her freedom, her parents and sister kept major secrets from her, she then lost her parents and had to bury them ALONE, and when Elsa ran off, she thought she was losing her sister again to her magic. And you know what, Anna pulled through ALL OF IT. What also irks me is the song "The Next Right Thing", as if Anna hasn't been the one making the best decisions to save everyone since the first movie. Like going after Elsa to bring her back, or sacrificing herself to save Elsa. Anna has always been doing the next right thing even when she made mistakes, even when everything was against her. What also irks me is the bridge thing. I know it's been discussed but dammit I don't believe Disney at all when they say that Anna is part of the bridge. Yes Anna helped set the forest free but she only had to do it AFTER Elsa screwed up and died for it. She was left with no choice but to make that decision because Elsa kept pushing her away, quite literally in Frozen 2. They didn't set the forest free together, Anna had to clean up Elsa's mess after Elsa ran off to "find herself" again. Notice how every time Elsa pushes Anna away someone DIES. And as much as I agree that Anna is the true hero of the Frozen Franchise, she was inexplicably ROBBED of a greater purpose. Yes being queen and all is her calling, I get that. She would undoubtedly be amazing at it. However, I still believe that she should have gotten powers. Not because she needed them, but because she EARNED THEM. Let me be clear. Anna doesn't NEED powers, but she most certainly EARNED them after everything she's done and sacrificed. Anna has done more than her mother ever did to be rewarded. AYO SPIRITS, WHERE HER POWERS AT? Because if we're really going off the movie's theory that saving your enemy or such and such deserves a magical reward, then where is Anna's magical reward? When she destroyed the dam, she became an enemy to Arendelle. She knew it would be destroyed but sacrificed her kingdom to make things right. There wasn't ever a guarantee that they would be able to rebuild in time to save themselves from Winter and possibly their enemies if they caught wind that Arendelle had been destroyed. That was a big risk that could and would have had massive consequences for the entire kingdom after it was washed away. And even though Elsa saved the kingdom, that doesn't undo the sacrifice Anna made, because to her knowledge, Elsa was dead. She didn't know Elsa would save the kingdom. She fully expected it to be destroyed, and that's a true sacrifice. And also, why is it that Anna couldn't see their mother in Ahtohallan. Why is it that only Elsa was granted that gift? Anna, especially after her parents lied to her nearly her entire life, deserved to finally get some answers and see their mother again. The last view she has of them was them frozen in death, and that's not fair. And also, despite what Disney wants to feed us, they threw in that "A bridge has two sides, and mother had two daughters" thing at the end and no one can tell me otherwise. There was NO INDICATION that Anna was part of this magical bridge until that little symbol showed up to alert Anna that Elsa was returning at the end of Frozen 2, and Elsa herself saying it. NONE. And I truly believe they did that just to make it seem like Anna was more special than she actually was, to appease fans who have been foaming at the mouth to see Anna get powers. Surprisingly, that tactic worked because hardly ANYONE is talking about Anna's lack of powers when so many people were excited to see it happen. I would have honestly loved to have seen Anna with wind powers, as a tribute to their mother's friendship with the wind spirit Gale, so that she can travel to places and see the world like she always wanted in Frozen 1. Or at the very least fly over to the Forest to see Elsa instead of using Gale as a bootleg USPS to send messages. At the very least, Anna wouldn't just be stuck to the kingdom and have some sort of freedom that she always longed for when she was trapped and isolated in the castle. Why is it that only Elsa can travel despite her responsibility to the spirits? She certainly goes to visit Anna for game nights. Does Anna get that luxury? No one can tell me that Disney didn't undersell Anna just to sell more Elsa merch because despite all the Queen Merch of Anna, just like Frozen 1, Frozen 2 was all about Elsa being in the spotlight while Anna is forced to clean up after her.

I really agree with you that Anna did more than her mother or Elsa ever did, but I think that Anna having powers would undermine the character's purpose. Anna is a "normal" person who does amazing things! I just think it's sad that they don't give her a hymn or that we don't delve deeper into her traumas, in her relationship, it's all about Elsa! Even though Anna is the protagonist and I hate Disney for that. I really hope that in Frozen 3 Anna has a duet with Kristoff, that shows even more of her qualities, that deepens her and most importantly, that shows that she is also SPECIAL! Anna deserved the powers more than Elsa, but her not having powers is one of the things I love most about her!

@@_cristalie You can have something that you don't need. It's not about what she does or doesn't need, it's about what she deserves. Deserving is the whole point. Arendelle didn't need a magical queen, but their mother was a friend to the spirits and was rewarded when she saved her enemy. It's the same principle here. Anna not getting rewarded with some magic goes against the established lore.

Although Elsa remains my favorite, she is a flawed character. I think that makes her an incredible achievement in its own right, but Anna is indeed the more heroic, and quite magnificent. In fact, in the trailer that came out before Frozen (and Elsa) was a cultural icon, Anna is pointedly singled out as "hero." "Let It Go" caused many people to consider Elsa heroic; the irony is that it was written when she was still a villain; they did not change a single lyric. "Let It Go" is still a villain's song! I go into this, and Anna as the "redeemer hero," the one who truly "lets it go" as a corrective to Elsa in my blog post at minorprofitpress.com/2019/02/20/why-everyone-is-wrong-about-frozen-part-one-the-movie-no-one-ever-sees/ I also consider how BOTH Anna and Elsa are heroes in Frozen 2 in my blog at minorprofitpress.com/2019/12/07/the-gospel-according-to-olaf/ Thanks for all your great Frozen content!
