Today we are venturing into the Arendelle and the Enchanted Forest to discuss whether or not Anna should have been revealed to be the fifth spirit instead of Elsa. After you come along on my journey to grapple with what is at the heart of the fifth spirit, the entity who was said to be the bridge between nature and mankind, we should finally be able to understand this mystical responsibility and be able to determine who deserves to be granted it. anna the queen of arendelle just like her mother queen indulla and king ednar is just the king of arendelle and kristoff become the next king of arendelle now unlike anna father now and even elsa left arendelle cause she doesn't want everyone to know she has icy powers now and even olaf telling everyone about the past in frozen movie how anna turn to ice and elsa unfreeze her and even anna took the sacrifice to save her sister life queen elsa of ata holla now beside the queen of arendelle now anna and elsa has 2 parts her own mission and her own dream of success now and elsa takes care of her people and her other element spirits while anna has to protect their own people of arendelle and not make war but peace now thanks to anna now.

Yeah Anna was but what he's saying is that the movie makes it seem like Elsa is just the 5th spirit and that Anna was just there because she didn't have powers. Also that it kinda didn't make sense for Elsa to be the 5th spirit because her powers are tied to Water. And how Anna should've been the 5th spirit alone because of how she saved Elsa. Honestly I think either Anna should've been the 5th spirit alone because the spirits would've done more damage if it weren't for Anna finding out the truth and destroying the Dam while Elsa was singing, or they both should be the 5th spirit and the 5th spirit should've been Love not Ice. To me it seems like they wanted Elsa to be more special than she already was.

wolf girl xoxo That’s not the way I saw it. I saw it as saying both sisters were equally as important because if the spirits just needed Elsa to be the bridge I’m sure she would’ve been an only child, but by having Elsa point out that their mother had two daughters it’s saying she needs Anna to be their other side of her bridge. If that makes sense?

Anna and Elsa are the bridge between mortality and magic. Anna’s side of the bridge connects with humans while Elsa’s side connects with nature. I don’t think the parents’ love have much to do with it at all. For me, it’s their sisterly love that makes them the fifth spirit. Yes they were the offsprings of selfless love, but THEY truly care for one another as sisters and are forever bonded together by that fact. That is why I think they are the fifth spirit, but it’s just my theory 💛

Well the Northundra and Arandelle were enemies and Iduna was of the Northundra people and Agnarr was the Prince of Arendelle so I think they actually are connected by love and I agree I think both Anna and Elsa are the fifth spirit.

Tbh tho the whole bridge thing it’s just a metaphor to explain what the Fifth spirit is meant to be and do. The bridge itself is Elsa, but in the end she included Anna as being of the sides bc she played an important role in breaking the dam and freeing the forest. She also said that in order to explain they would still be working together even if they’re far apart from each other.

@@GG-id2hg from what we've seen, it would make more sense that the spirit itself was bigger and more powerful than any mortal human could handle. Elsa and Anna being two halves of a greater whole makes sense. The interesting point it DOES make, though, is why Elsa continually identifies with her mother over her father. From the intro, we know Agnarr was a boy king and most likely wasn't coronated until he was older, much like Elsa was. Anna stepped into the role of Queen, like Iduna did. Yet the roles both Agnarr and Iduna have mirror in their daughters. I suppose, however, when it comes down to it, even in the movie each spirit is shown as an avatar only, like Elsa is. Fire exists independently of Bruni, water exists independently of the Nokk, the earth exists independently of the giants and the wind exists independently of Gale. We know this, otherwise none of this would exist in Arendelle. Elsa herself is an avatar the magic of nature and her connection to Anna, the vibrant young queen brimming with the best of humanity, is the spirit of connection. The power itself is spirit. It's not a tangible thing.

I hated that theory so much not just because it made no sense but because the creators made one tweet and people took it as a confirmation that it was true, all they said was that anything is possible!!! That is not a confirmation!!! Thank god this theory got debunked because I was kind of getting tired of it

The Tarzan one didn't make sense. The Tangled one kind of didn't either. Tangled supposedly takes place during the 1780s and Frozen takes place during 1839 and Froxen 2 takes place in 1842. However if Tangled takes place at a later time(King Agnarr was born in 1794), and that may mean the two movies are much closer in the timeline.

Water killed their parents. Giving Elsa water powers instead of wind feels like a way for the Water Spirit to seek retribution and show how beautiful Water can be. All the elements combined creat life. Hence why Elsa has Ice powers and is the fifth spirit. Anna on the other hand has no attachment to the elements that could keep her in that realm. She, instead feels more connected to her home in Arendale and wants to guide her people to continue to have a love for magic and love like her mother. Her NOT having powers makes her more relatable and shows just what you can do simply if you are brave enough through love. That is why I favour her over Elsa.

Water is to simple and free flowing to carry memory I can see ice holding memory freezing things in time . But I heard more of wood carring memories . And I can believe that with memory more likely imprinted on Protiens maybe she can use water to extract memories from the wood

I like her being "completely ordinary". Especially as she's usually the one who saves the day, even without powers, which i think makes her even more powerful. It's not difficult to be a superhero with special powers and do incredible things - try saving the whole kingdom (twice!) while being a normal, "powerless" person. That's why, in my opinion, Anna is the real heroine of Frozen.

I think that Anna becoming the Queen was a good idea because in the movie she shows love, kindness, leadership and bravery those are all the traits a queen should have. While Elsa still is trying to understand her feelings her magic.

Cảmellia Tamer yeah, all of Elsa’s character arc was to do with her powers. The story writers were constantly making it so that Elsa was felt to be out of place. Anna’s story arc was all about people and her kingdom. If you take a look at the deleted scene “Home” then it will be obvious

I think that focusing so much on Elsa's ice magic may have been why some folks were so confused about Frozen 2 at first and wrote it off as a bad movie. Elsa's ice magic and the 5th Spirit were, at least to me, 2 separate things. Elsa having ice power is just because she's gifted those powers from Ahtohallan/nature. Being the 5th Spirit means being the bridge between magic and humans. We have Honeymaren's lines in text (there's a 5th spirit--a bridge meant to connect us [humans] to the magic of nature), and Elsa's lines in the end that a bridge has two sides and their mother had two daughters, we did this together, etc. If we knew nothing else about the 5th Spirit and only had these texts to go on, then it's very clear that there is no direct connection being drawn between ice magic and the 5th spirit. Having ice magic certainly helps Elsa communicate better with the 4 spirits, but this power does not make her the bridge, not solely at least. If Ahtohallan was a gigantic sand dune, Elsa would have had sandblasting powers. Her individual power doesn't matter in the grand scheme of a 5th spirit. It's a nice perk. Bridging a gap between two ends has more to do with being a 5th spirit. A bridge connects two sides, their mother had two daughters, and what connects Iduna's two daughters is their love for each other as sisters, as family. So in the end, love really is the 5th Spirit, as HISHE pointed out XD and love did triumph over fear/prejudice (represented by King Runeard in the 2nd film). But that love doesn't reside in Anna individually or Elsa's power individually, which is where HISHE took a detour, but in the bond that forms between both Anna and Elsa, as you so astutely point out.

something to think about: Elsa has water and wind, while Anna has fire and earth. For example: Anna has that Fiery passion and a do-er attitude. She also loves life. She cares about more than just people. (Olaf, etc...) Elsa, on the other side, has an icy sharp attitude and is more of a thinker. (plus everything you've talked about) I think that, like stated in the movie, and from what you have said, they are both the 5th spirit. But if both of them are, then they should both have powers. I feel as though the creators may try to pull a fast one and make a Frozen 3 where anna has fire and earth-like powers. also- I think Elsa has earth powers, but that they are more on the nature/life side.

how does anna have fiery powers? there is an explanation as to why elsa had ice powers elsa had ice powers because she was born on the winter solstice while anna was born in the summer solstice which explains why elsa was born with ice powers which is why I'm asking you how does anna have fiery powers and elsa does not have a icy sharp attitude she just can't overcome her fears but with the help of anna she is a little better as for anna she always rushes into things too quickly but still has a big heart made of pure love

Steve the Cat Water does have memory, it’s how they make homeopathy medicine (put pure water + one drop of contaminated stuff in a bottle, then empty the bottle and fill it with pure water hundreds of times, and the new mix is supposed to have like, 0/20000 of that contaminated drop). Whether it works or not is another debate, but it’s a scientific consensus that water has memory.

I feel like Anna does not get enough credit for what see did in both movies. What I mean by that is, she sacrificed herself for Elsa to protect her from Hans, and in the second movie she destroyed the damn, and saved Elsa again from her frozen self. I think she deserves to be the fifth spirit.

Disney focused more on Elsa being the fifth spirit because she has ice powers and is the only human who does making sense she would be the fifth spirit. But Anna has always been the hero of the frozen story more then Elsa and has unwavering love and loyalty to those she cares about. So I do agree Anna should have been the fifth spirit to finally step out of her sisters shadow but Disney will focus on what the people want and a lot wanted to know where Elsa got her powers and they knew it would make lots of money.

I think Anna should have been the fifth spirit because love is a universal power and Anna could easily win over the spirits with her devotion to her family and saving the enchanted forest. She has proven time and time again that you don’t have to have magic to make a difference and that anyone can do it if they have the determination to achieve it. To be honest Anna has grown a lot since the first movie and without her Elsa would have died by Han’s hand or remained frozen in atohallan forever had Anna not done the right thing. Anna’s power as a fifth spirit would be her love which could win over anyone.

anna deserved so much more she went through so much on that journey to break down the dam whilst elsa was singing her head off in her dream place yes elsa had to tame spirits along the way but she has powers! anna had to bring down earth giants without powers! elsa had to find out who she was even if it meant killing olaf destroying Arendale and nearly killing her beloved sister

In the original ending alternatively, Arendelle was destroyed by the great big flood wave. Anna and Elsa survive, but barely. Although however, Elsa was originally supposed to be likely dead until the unknown further notice.

To me it makes more since that they're both the fifth spirit. Elsa represents the magical /spiritual world while Anna represents the people or "human world" and when they come together they are the "bridge that connects both worlds"

Disney wasn't being greedy with the concept, the four elements of Earth, air, water, and fire have been around for a long time and as the person above you said they are scientific elements.

I think it makes sense Anna should’ve been the 5th spirit.. Elsa should’ve been the human embodiment of Ahtohallan especially with the lyrics of “All is Found” where they say “dive down deep into her sound but not too far or you’ll get drowned” and in Show Yourself Elsa said “ive always been a fortress cold secrets deep inside” and as displayed in the first frozen if you pressed Elsa too hard you were sure to get well frozen drowned in her guilt were the cold comes out.

And the lyrics of the first song in the first movie . meant to be forshaddowing implied her powers came from temperature she was born in and the weather and connecting another hug plot point run off from the troll magic . Who knows what the rain down the mountains

Fyi; "her sound" is specifically using sound there in its nautical sense. That is 'noun: sound a narrow stretch of water forming an inlet or connecting two wider areas of water such as two seas or a sea and a lake.' That is talking about the entryway into Ahtahollan as 'glaciers are rivers of ice' and she follows that into the heart of the river of ice; where you find out the real truth about glaciers... they're only rivers of ice on the top. Underneath they're an entire lake or small sea of ice. Thus meaning... her sound is just dive into the river of ice; as she literally did.

Rusty Recommends sound has many meanings no one denied that one thing disney does is use it as a metaphor to the max so like I said it still could be a metaphor specifically to Elsa proving the point she is the embodiment of ahtohallan just like in frozen heart Elsa isn’t born literally of cold winter air and mountain rain so it’s not the literal meaning it’s the underlying meaning that makes you go they are describing Elsa

But, Anna doesn’t need powers. There needs to be two sides of the bridge, basically, Anna needs to be at Arendale with the people, and Elsa needs to stay with the magic, and look after the forest, whilst Anna looks after her country. Anna doesn’t need magic to look after Arendale. Elsa has powers because of her parents, they saved the forest, so they made Elsa get powers for a ‘thank you’, and so that she can be with the forest.

Great video! My interpretation was always that they were both the fifth spirit and it kind of bothers me that so many people seemed to forget that Anna was a part of that. These two sisters complete each other, it wouldn’t make any sense if only one of them was the fifth spirit.

It's just that watching the movie the first time I didnt get that love was the fifth spirit. I had to watch it again and see videos like these to understand it better because so much happened so quickly and a good portion of the movie was so much about Elsa. They should have kept the deleted scene where Elsa shows Anna how much their parents believed in her and inserted it right before Kristoff proposed. I think that scene was so beautiful and it really gives Anna an extra emphasis on how important she is to the whole story.

I like that explanation at the end. One could then interpret Anna and Elsa being what supports the bridge on either side while the bridge itself is the love that is shared between them. Elsa having powers was then a sign that she is the symbol of magic (one side of the bridge) and Anna’s determination and leadership sets her as the symbol of humanity (the other side of the bridge). They were both given these abilities so that they could embody (and maybe not necessarily be) the fifth spirit as a reward for all that their mother had done. Sorry, Isaac, I know this basically what you said, but I had a lot of mixed feelings coming out of this movie too and it helps me to write it down. This was a great video on the topic!

When I first saw Frozen and heard the announcement of Frozen II I had this theory that Anna possessed the power of fire because her hair is fiery red while Elsa has icy blonde hair that represents her powers. As Anna gets older she realizes she has the power of fire and has to not only learn how to manage and successfully control her power but also save her sister. Imagine Anna having to battle against Elsa using contrasting powers, fire vs. ice in order to save her sister and Arendelle, then towards the end, Anna and Elsa both use their powers to bring order and represent the harmony between two opposites. Damn I should work for Disney.

Maybe in the third movie, they'll reveal that Anna is the spirit of love and unifies humans and nature, while Elsa unifies magic/ the elements with an element that can change forms. Besides her being a bridge, the reason I think there can be a 6th spirit and that they'd take these roles is that the thing with all the spirits on it has 4 diamonds on the outskirts making a square, one diamond in the middle, and then snowflake arms between all the 4 outer diamonds. So maybe Elsa is the unifier of the 4 elements (with her snowflake spines being between the 4 elements), while Anna, the element of love, is the unifier of humans and nature.

It would have made more sense if Elsa was the Guardian of Ahtohallan, or Guardian of Memories instead of the Fifth Spirit imho. She could navigate Ahtohallan because she can make and manipulate ice and snow, which is great because Ahtohallan is a glacier. It would have made more sense if Anna was the Fifth Spirit that represents Love, because Love isn't an element, it's a concept that takes many kinds of forms. I think if Ahtohallan had called Elsa there to bring Anna and protect her on their journey, I could buy it. Love being the Fifth Spirit would have been the best possibility because it was love that caused Iduna to save Agnar, her enemy. It was Love that made Anna sacrifice herself to save Elsa in the first movie, and it was Love that caused the Great Thaw. Love connects everything, and Anna embodies Love, and should have been the Fifth Spirit. Elsa and Anna could have worked in tandem with Ahtohallan's knowledge to protect Arendelle and The Enchanted Forest by accessing it's memories to help both sides prosper. Imho, it should have been Anna to discover the truth and not Elsa. Elsa can't handle things like that, but Anna can. The song "All is Found" asks if you can face what the river knows. Elsa couldn't, and as she walked down, Ahtohallan warned her by singing the part of the song about going too far, but she didn't listen, and I think she was frozen as a punishment for ignoring Ahtohallan's warning. Anna would have handled it better and knew what to do next, just like she figured out just from Elsa's simple message that the dam was a trick.

Anna would have been wonderful as a fifth spirit, but she is also an incredible leader and what she does throughout the films shows how she cares for her family and people so why not be both? Elsa definitely belongs among those she can connect with, in a world of magic, so she can take turns with Anna so they can share in the magic their mother left them!

There's an easy way to find out if Anna should've been the fifth spirit: Starting from the scene in the beach, count the number obstacles Elsa had to use magic to overcome. If the number is more than 0, it's safe to say Anna would be physically unable to reach the memory room of Ahtohallan and, thus, be incapable of becoming the fifth spirit.

Maybe I'm wrong and way off, but I think that the former leader of the Northuldra tribe use to be the 5th spirit, hence his people living in harmony with all the other spirits. His death/murder angered the other spirits. Therefor the forest was closed off. When Iduna proved to the spirits that love can do wonderest things by saving Agnarr (a enemy of her tribe) a gift was given to them. Knowing that love was the answer the spirits gave her a gift. Two daughters that shared the same love, one with powers and one without, (the thought behind this was that one sister understands the other and there was no fear and only love, love that would prevent what happened in the past from happening again when the sisters ruled) When the time came and Elsa and Anna found out why Elsa was magical, they understood that both of them have to live in harmony with the other. Like Elsa said a bridge has two sides. Elsa may have the magic tgat people can see, but Anna has magic too. A pure heart with love and understanding seems more magical than something that you can see doesnt is? With that she has great leadership qualities aswell that proves that she is the rightful queen the kingdom deserves. With them working together things turned out like they should have and everyone is happy

I feel like it would make more sense this way. They should’ve had 6 spirts instead of 5. Keep Fire, Earth, and Wind the same, But have Elsa just be water, because water is just wet ice. But the two other spirts are Life and Death. Death could be some other character that the characters meet when they meet the tribes like Honeymaren or Ryder for example, to give them something to do. And have Anna be the life spirt. Because to me, it doesn’t make sense that the spirts rewards Elsa’s mom with one kid being a spirt, and not for Anna, which was an idea they could’ve explored more. And also, most of Anna’s clothing is based on Life, so that would make sense.

If Anna was supposed to be the fifth spirit then she should have been the first born instead of Elsa because when Iduna saved Agnarr the spirits gifted her that her First Born will be the fifth spirit and will have the power to order the four spirits because Elsa ‘s mom Iduna made a bridge between Arendelle and the Enchanted Forest by saving the prince of Arendelle who is Agnarr ( Iduna is northhuldra so she is a citizen of the Enchanted Forest so being a citizen of the Enchanted Forest she saves a citizen of Arendelle so that creates a bond/bridge between the two sides that is why they gifted her as she didn’t know about the enimity in the two sides and saved Agnarr ) so they gifted her...... so I mentioned first born so how could Anna get when she is not first born?that is my theory.

JW 2002 hmm, I see your point, it’s just now that people have been uploading the deleted scenes from frozen 2, it makes the movie seems less appealing as the deleted scenes (most not all probably) like the secret room would have flowed better throughout the whole movie, also if arendelle were to be destroyed and be rebuilt anew like what Anna visioned, it would have also been a better prosecution, but I guess that would be too deep for a Disney movie. Sigh. Don’t get me wrong, everything was great, just it feels like it still lack a lot of things. I could go on but eh. Still a thumbs up in my list just needed more improvement.

Have we noticed that this movie is so deep that multiple people can watch it and each one of them has a different message, theme, reason for x, y, or z, and so forth that sticks out to them or they can relate to? I think that is part of the beauty of this movie. You can take it at face value or you can delve deeper and deeper and even more deeply, and it still make sense and work for you as well as for the movie. I personally love this movie and love to delve into the symbolism and messages that are in there, whether done on purpose or not and so many things make sense and are just absolutely beautiful. I love how we can all have our own takes and interpretations of things. Sometimes when a movie is too clear, it doesn't feel real and like the audience is being spoon-fed information rather than being given the ability to think and interpret. Do we always have all the answers when things happen? Nope. We sometimes have to make our own conclusions in understanding things in life, so I relate to this movie in this aspect too. I appreciate stories that allow you to think. Anyway. Those are some of my thoughts. And yes I love the idea that Anna and Elsa together are the fifth spirit and that love was at the center of all of it.

Better idea. Someone finds a way to destroy magic. The Spirits start dying, and the world with them, so Elsa and Anna got off to find a way to heal them. But Elsa's power starts fading. In the end, Elsa has to sacrifice her chance at regaining her powers to save the world. Oh, but Olaf gets to live because of their sisterly love.

Honestly I feel like this could go either way I liked Frozen 2 with how their mother having two daughters meaning they are the bridge between both worlds (like a lot of commenters have already mentioned) and honestly the idea of Ana being the fifth spirit with love being the main point is very interesting, it'd make sense that both of Elsa's magic and Ana's love being the main keys of the bridge between both worlds, so in a way their sisterly bond in a way is like the fifth spirit. Also bringing up the dam/bridge and how it was seen as a way to 'Unite' both the tribe and the kingdom, but when Elsa revealed the truth the bridge wasn't built to unite them, Ana took action and was able to get it destroyed. I found that symbolic in the way that the previous king lied saying the Dam would unite the lands, but what really united them were the two sisters once the dam was taken down. Sorry for long comment I'm just a little too invested in this idea TvT

I definitely think love can be the fifth spirit, and the sisters are the embodiment of the bridge between magic and mortal. But the other spirits still confuse me. If there are multiple earth giants, then why aren’t there multiple wind, water, or fire spirits running around? How and why *exactly* did the spirits close off the forest? Did they collectively decide these things together? Why did the spirits ‘wake up’ when Elsa was calling out to the voice, (which was actually Ahtahallon)? Why didn’t the earth giants break the dam themselves before? If the spirits realized the dam was a problem, then they could’ve destroyed it. They certainly had the power to. (Regardless of “a human needed to right the wrong” plot point.) But if they didn’t realize the dam was a problem, then why were they angry in the first place and close off the forest? How exactly was the dam such a problem? Was it cutting off water spirits from going to the ocean? Was it killing nature further downstream? And what about their grandpa? If he started the fight by killing their tribal leader, then why are the spirits angry about the dam? Wouldn’t they be angry at the people? I’m so confused. Also! How did the spirits witness Iduna saving “her enemy”? Did Gale just pass on the message or something? And how exactly did the spirits bless these two to have a child with ice powers? From so far away? Twenty-something years later? I’m getting dizzy... 🤕

Technically Disney made Elsa and Anna make up the fifth spirit together. Elsa’s power is connected with nature and Anna has the power of love which when combined, brings the spirits, the northuldra, and arendelle together. Remember at the end Elsa says that a bridge has two sides, meaning Elsa being ruler/protector of the enchanted forest side Anna ruling the arendelle side. There’s a balance and a connection between the two which is why I say that together Elsa and Anna make up the fifth spirit.

I thought it was kind of dumb that they used the four classic Greek elements despite setting the story among Norse/Scandinavian mythology, especially since ice is treated as an element by some norse myths. They could have had earth, sea, storm, fire, and ice as the elements, each ruled over by a race of giants. And rather than discovering she was a fifth spirit, she could have been acknowledged as "the snow queen" by the king of the ice giants. Would have been a great touch that paid tribute to the old myths as well as the original H.C. Anderson story.

I love this video. It really showed me how many ways the movie's plot can be interpreted. I personally loved Frozen II and still do. I also love the fact that the sisters together are the bridge, and they represent that by being on two separate ends of their area in the end. Although, I gotta say, it's quite funny that the two sisters discovered they were a bridge after destroying a bridge! 😂 ^(I just thought of this now too, months later by hearing you say "bridge" and watching them destroy the one their grandfather put up, LOL.)

I'd love to hear more about Frozen 2. :) I also personally didn't like how Frozen 1 made such a big deal about showing how Elsa belonged in Arendelle, and then Frozen 2 changed all that and stuck her in the middle of an enchanted forest. Just my opinion, you don't have to agree with me XD

I guess with use getting use plot twist and hind site they sending us false tracks . The first song in the first movie meant to be forshaddowing implied the temperature she was born in. The weather and putting things together running of from the troll magic who live in the mountains. All combining

I kinda understand when ya say it’s confusing, it really is at first, but when you watch it a second time or even more and come to reflect upon the things that were going on, ya can pretty much tell that the story is coherent and makes so much sense. Give it more try since it’s on Disney+ now. Guess it’s my 6th time by now lol

I love Frozen 2 (though the first one will always be my favourite) it was awesome finding out why Elsa has powers. And after watching this I agree that they are both the fifth spirit, two halves of one whole. I wasn’t sure about Elsa living in the woods, but now that i think about it, it makes sense. She’s the nature/magic side of the spirit and all the other nature spirits seem to travel the forest keeping order like the fire gecko, Gale,and the Water-horse. And Anna is the Queen of arendel keeping order. It makes sense now Elsa is the nature/magic half of the fifth spirit, and Anna is the Love/human half of the fifth spirit. P.S your videos are awesome.

Well going off the bridge theory, if you watch again at the end where Ana and Elsa are standing in Forest with the representations of the spirits both Anna and Elsa are standing in the middle together hugging each other as the 5th spirit.

Joshua Merriweather You obviously didn’t watch the movie because the spirits aren’t about the 4 elements. Elsa is the fifth spirit meaning she’s the bridge between the human and mythical world not the 4 elements she’s supposed to keep the human and mythical world at balanced. Also in a way Anna is the fifth spirit too because Elsa told her “a bridge has two sides and mother had two daughters” Meaning they’re both keeping the human and mythical world at balance

So I was rewatching the movie and while I do agree with this theory to a degree, something kind of stuck out with me. I think another way that they are both the fifth spirit is if you were to think of it as the spirit of TIME. First look at Elsa. In the first movie she's constantly haunted with the event of hurting her sister with her powers. Her past actions held onto her tightly and prevented her from growing. Now look at Ana in the first movie. She's continually moving forward with whatever comes at her. Despite having few connections with others, she is outgoing and thinking of her future. Getting married, all the people she can see and what can come from the simple act of opening the gates. The thing that keeps them both somewhat in the present is each other. Elsa is able to finally move forward because her sister sacrificed herself for her, and Ana was able to slow down and move into her future too fast. In the second movie this seems more reinforced. Elsa's powers clearly come from Ahtohallan, a glacier able to show the past. That's why Elsa has her ice powers. It's because of her direct connection to the past. And one should learn from the past in order to move forward into the future. However the past itself cannot act upon the future, which is why while Elsa was the one who had to learn about the past and give the information to Ana, Elsa was not able to directly fix it. She had to depend on Ana, who represents the future, to fix things. That's why Ana had to be the one to destroy the dam and redeem the kingdom of Arendelle. But she couldn't and wouldn't have done so without Elsa's information on the past. These thoughts are honestly right off the top of my head, so if you have any thoughts or questions, feel free to comment!

Why would Anna be the fifth spirit instead of Elsa? She was the one who calmed down all the spirits (besides earth) and she was the one born with powers but in a way they are both the fifth spirit because as Elsa said “a bridge has TWO sides and mother had TWO DAUGHTERS”

I get why some people think Anna should be the 5th spirit, but I actually support how Elsa is the 5th spirit. The nice thing about Anna is that she didn’t need magic to stop Elsa. Without powers she can do so much, and that can really inspire real life people. And I think it’d be best to keep it that way, but that’s just my opinion.

Elsa is a fifth spirit. She is a fifth element, life. Yes she has magic that can control ice but she can control and tame the other elements. It wasnt until she learned how to understand herself and her feelings that she truly came into being. She died a mortal and was reborn a Goddess. In frozen 1 Elsa was scared of heraelf and lost. In 2 she found herself and become what she was ment to do. I can't wait to see what 3 brings. Because I mean, we need a wedding and we need to know more about kriatof and if Elsa will find love and if the kids will be magical.

The reason that Elsa did not get more powers when she found out that she was the fifth spirit because air fire water and earth each have something to do with ice. The earth has water and air. Air is cool so when you combine the two it makes ice. But when you combine ice and fire, it turns back to water unless it is melted for too long which then makes evaporated water which combines into the air since water and another component makes oxygen or known as air. Which is surrounded around the Earth. The bridge has two sides the kingdom and the forest. If they are both the fifth spirit, that means that Anna did not get powers because she is the fifth spirit of the kingdom and Elsa is the fifth spirit of the forest.

People keep forgetting why Frozen 2 was made. It was to explain how Elsa got her powers. Why she is different from Anna. Anna being magical just diminishes her heroism. One can be a hero without magic. There's also the aspect of them growing up without parental figures. They have psychological problems which were dealt with in the second film. Their roles were balanced here as opposed to the first film. And didn't Ana save the day by doing what Elsa can't (destroying the dam), and Elsa saved the day by saving Arendelle. These sisters are equals, though different. I embrace that, totally.

I belive Elsa was given powers because she was the side of the bridge that would be connected to the natural magic, while Anna was the human side of it. Being in the side of the magic involved Elsa into going to Athohallan and personificate the union of the the four spirits and due to that connection she earned the power of Athohallan wich was covered in ice, the "element" that frozen and preserved the memories in the water just like Olaf said. Anna, being the human side, was involved in restoring the order on the same way that their grandfather ruined it, as a powerless human that still capabable of doing great things. (except her gramps made everything worse)
