Problems you have as a guitar player: 1. You feel behind where you should be considering how long you’ve been playing for 2. Not knowing what to practice which results in jumping around from thing to thing and overall just wasting your time 3. You only ever learn parts of songs and struggle to actually finish one 4. You lack motivation to pick up the instrument despite feeling very excited to in the past 5. You’ve been playing the same licks/songs for years 6. You can’t play what’s in your head 7. Feeling nervous around better musicians 8. You’ve never really gotten the hang of the metronome 9. Music theory doesn’t make sense to you or feels like a massive task to learn and you don’t know where to start 10. And above all, you just sound amateur Because I'm smart as hell and understand your problems so well, I've addressed them all in 52 Week Guitar Player. Chances are by this point you're aware that the program is open for enrollment. We are looking to take 90 intermediate level guitar players to an advanced level within the next 12-24 months. By advanced, I mean helping you improvise anywhere on the neck in any key, write chord progressions you never would've thought of or knew how to previously, tighten up your playing, help you feel confident around other musicians, understand music theory, etc. I created a video explaining how the program works that I'll link here: brandondeon.com/52wgp-video This program is not cheap, but it is the best you'll find on the internet. Watch the video above if you don't believe me. 52WGP is for students who are serious about taking their musicianship to the next level. You'll have until March 31 to enroll but fun fact about this stuff: everyone tries to enroll toward the end. People want to take time to weigh the pros and cons of joining - this is completely understandable. But just so you know, as time passes the window of opportunity shrinks. And at the end of the day, yes the program will open again months later (this is my business and I'm not closing it). But instead of staying in the same place for months, I'm sure you could agree your time would be better spent getting a different perspective on things - not just continuing to play the same stuff you do all the time. I do my best to help you chefs out with all of these fookin community posts all the time. For some of you, that's all you need. There's nothing wrong with that and I'm happy to be helping you out. But for those of you that want to improve at a faster pace, I'll see you on the other side dammit. Here's the link once again: brandondeon.com/52wgp-video Okay bye. -Brandon

I really hate how you advertise your program and hearted your own pinned comment. If you're ever trying to figure out why it's not doing as well as you hoped or expected, start here. I'm usually pretty mellow and generally don't comment on stuff like this. If you're doing fine, then by all means I guess. Just think you could get more people onboard by not coming across as a tryhard.

I've seen a C2 in sheet music before. it depends on where in the chord the second is. if there's a D which is higher than a C, E and G, it's a Cadd9. If it's something more like CDEG, it's a C2.

The only time we get 2 and 4 Is when there's no 3rd present. Sus chords is a good example of this. For the 6th, C6 yes, C Major triad with the 6th added. But the 6th is also the 13th up the octaves. So a C dominant 7 chord, with the 6th added, Isnt C dominant 6 or C7 add 6 Its C13

Makes sense in a beginner's standpoint due to music theory being very complicated and never being unified into one theory, but that's not the whole story. We don't see much of the even numbers (beyond the usual 1 3 5) because chords are like a basic instruction, even though you can make it as simple or complicated as you want. I could say perfectly just C7 or C7(9) or C7(13b) (people don't usually complicate it too much besides specific genres). The sheet music is actually the one that tells you exactly what to play, it has all sorts of tools that chords don't have to show you how to play. But, there are exceptions to the even number chords in different regions of the world and genres like jazz (crazy extensions like 10ths, 12ths, 14ths) differs from the classical period music (vanilla tonal harmony), for example. Plus, I'm not even talking about the complexities of 20th century music, that's too much. The terminology tends to be different between musical systems too (i.e. Solfege vs American). Music theory is complicated and it's full of shards of knowledge scattered around, that's why good and well versed musicians construct their knowledge like a mosaic. It starts with one author (or genre) and it expands to other places, authors and genres.

In jazz, a 13 chord isn't just an added 6th, it is often 1 3 5 b7 9 13 (This is a dominant 13, there are also major and minor 13s)

What does the “add” stand for, like why isn’t it just called C9. It’s something like add9 having only a 9 on top whereas C9 is with a 7 in there too right??
@347Jimmy
@347Jimmy Год назад
This is correct, a C9 (or C dominant 9) is 1 3 5 b7 9 Cmaj9 is 1 3 5 7 9 Cmin9 is (you guessed it) 1 b3 5 b7 9 The "add" stands for "added" As in "regular major chord with added 9"
