I don’t think they are. It’s not like Nike or Adidas is slapping their label on regular, everyday items and charging astronomical prices like Supreme. The authentic shirt can be thought of as a tool for athletes if they’re meant to help with their performance. There’s a lot of work and technology going into these shirts which justify the price. Great breakdown of the football/soccer shirts business, I feel like that’s an industry in and of itself.

So much so that I actually did not buy any modern Chelsea kit. I prefer the Yokohama and Samsung ones. There is a good way of supporting your club by buying a jersey without the ads, here's how. 1. Some Clubs offer "Euro" Designs of their jerseys, where there are no sponsors. 2. Buy Training or prematch jerseys. Most of them are ad free and even cost less

Yes but football shirts are not mostly about production costs, they are about recovering costs from the sponsorship to the club that gives them the right print those shirts in the first place. Those numbers are impacted by general inflation in addition to growth of demand. Remember most of the revenue of the sale of a shirt goes to the shirt company and not the club....that's cos the right to print those shirts have been paid for in advance. In essence you are paying the shirt company who already pre-paid your club (and not buying shirts will affect any future sponsorship value the club can get).

We dont need to think about the research that they do to improve it over time?

In our country, the inflation of money is way different so it’s cost only about 20 dollars for an authentic licensed shirt. Something a fast food worker can get for a month in other countries is what taxi drivers get in 5 months here

Facts. I bought the blue Ajax away shirt for 45, and I'd be a dummy if I had spent 90 at the start of the season.

The problem is that there is never my size at the end of the season, so I end up buying nothing.

That's what I did, managed to get a home shirt in my size down from £70 to £40 because of it being an end of season sale, I don't mind paying that because that to me is what the shirt is actually worth and is usually the maximum I'm willing to pay.

QUESTION: does anyone know if before every game players are given a new shirt before the start of the match? For ex. Real Madrid's is white, either they wash it really well prior to a game or they get a new shirt everytime

@@lemonking3644 Most of the times they are new kits each game. Especially for big clubs like Real Madrid. After matches players will give them to a fan or trade with another player so the the shirt they wore isn’t in their possession anymore.

you'd think there's be a sense of community to try and make something simple, local and affordable just so no one feels left out .. but apparently getting your kit made in the same megafactory i as everyone else half way around the world makes more sense? i really dont get it. its just clothes ffs.. trainers i understand might be too complex to skimp on but football shirts should be a labour of love .. especially national football shirts !

True it started at the beginning of the 00's. I believe until 04 Bayern Munich, for example, changed their home kit only every two years. The same goes for Dortmund. From 04 on, we had a new jersey every season. My favorite jerseys until today are the _"Total 90"_ ones by Nike. The national teams playing in theses kits had a circled in number on the front of the jersey, instead of the sponsor. They can be seen in the famous Nike ad, were Portugal played Brazil, with an endless number of top-stars: *ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F2q7703-IFg.html* I had a Tomáš Rosický one. But I'm sure it wasn't a replica. It had all the features of the original one the players wore on the pitch. I had _"Total 90"_ shoes and a yellow/purple ball too. The ball was indeed a replica! I just was in love with that style. Now I haven't bought a jersey for over ten years and I also don't play myself anymore.

For Arsenal, we repeated our 2012/13 home kit in the 2013/14 season. That was the last time. I'm sure it won't be changing anytime soon

Actually the shirts leave the country of origin empty, no branding or anything. I'm not sure if Athletic forgot or if they added them to the branding section (the one where they said that some money go to German federation), but there's some costs into adding the logos and numbers too.

Production cost in Portugal is cheaper than in a lot of parts of China already.

That's also why you see a lot of "conscious" brands saying they're producing in Portugal as if it was because they're so woke - no it's because it's the cheapest option.

@@robertlee6338 the shipping cost is high and upon that China is pretty much constantly in lockdown, which makes other markets easy to work with. Also Portugal has one of the largest the title industry outside of Asia. A huge proportion of Inditex (Zara, Pull & Bear and so on) and several luxury brand clothing comes from Portugal

@@penguin350 yea but even if a kit is the same with different variations, that first original design idea has to be created by someone. Even if it’s just changing the colors and badges someone has to physically communicate and change that on they’re tech packs which still takes time. Time that someone gets paid for.

@@MendoCreative i dont think thats going to be a huge cost - there'll be a team of core staff (a fraction of the company's workforce and a coveted role ) who will scout and commission collabs .. and big brands often have designers over a barrel .. when designers have a big name for their portfolio, that pulls in more clients .. the exceptions might be some very famous designer who's name pulls in a new market.. like when stella mccartney did the GB olympic kit

@@jantelopez5626 yes of course it’s not a big cost just based off of the large volume of products being created ( I know because I used to be an a apparel designer). But it is an IMPORTANT cost none the less. My point is here is that there is more cost associated with creating these kits than people think, and even though economy of scale takes place, all those little costs add up. Which gets passed down to the consumer.

What i usually do is find what the new kits will look like at the beginning of the season. If i'm interested in one i usually wait for the sales at the end of the season (i also have a discount as a member), but you have to be fast because the kit is often sold out in a couple of days or sometimes hours. And sometimes i'm not interested by the new kits at all. Which is even cheaper!

It is what the top Clubs in the top Leagues do and it is usually the Fans that suffer the most, in one way, or the other.

That is what it has come to. We were talking to others and they ended up paying even more. The way Football is going, the ordinary, hardworking terrace Fan is not going to be able to go and watch football games anymore, not in the top Leagues at least. Yes, PSG have gone beyond the limit and you are spot on, but the whole of top Football is also going beyond the limit.
