• Video -~-
It’s no secret that Goblins and Wizards haven’t always seen eye to eye over years..or over the centuries really. Like Elves, Goblins have been relegated to second class citizens in comparison to their wizarding counter parts due to the possible threat they carry if allowed more freedom with magic. Despite the Ministry Of Magic having a tight grip on them, Goblins still are in no way permitted to use, own or carry a wand under penalty of a life sentence in Azkaban prison. The question is..Why? Why can’t a Goblin own a wand? Just how powerful could they be if they did? What’s this underlying tension the Goblin race feels against wizards? Don’t worry guys I’m going to answer all of those questions in todays video, so with that being said, stick around, grab a butter beer and let’s talk about why Goblins are not permitted to carry wands.

well in goblin beliefs a item they made is always owned by a goblin and the purchase is only a lifetime rental... so he basically didnt own it anymore when he died^^ in fact the goblins should not have used the term of purchase but lifetime rental then they would legally own the stuff they made even in human/wizard laws
@passingliaison
@passingliaison 4 года назад
That's complete BS though. At least according to the video. Here's what the video tells us: 1. Gryffindor commissioned the sword to be made in the first place 2. The Goblins attacked Gryffindor while he was still alive 3. The Goblin King lied to his on people, claiming Gryffindor stole it(He didn't) The whole, "it belongs to the Goblin who made it" BS stims from a lie told to try and steal the sword from Gryffindor before he died. It also makes no sense when you take into account Gringotts, how it works, and how Goblins run it. Sending out "curse Breakers" like Bill Weasley to steal the treasures and fortunes of foreign wizards. Treasures their own views on ownership says they have no right to. They may see themselves as guardians of treasure, but not all treasures in Gringotts are Goblin made. I'd also be interested to know if this "the one who makes it owns it" bull applies within Goblin society itself, because I highly doubt it. Personally, I think the whole Goblin ownership situation stems from the idea that Goblins have that Wizards can't be trusted with treasures.
@xxx_jim_the_reaper_xxx
@xxx_jim_the_reaper_xxx 4 года назад
@@passingliaison In that point of view, Goblins aren't wrong though. They cannot trust us with treasures because they know that it will always be lost or worse, cannot be returned if the owner was killed or died. And even the fine collector of treasures will always lose their stash upon their deaths and they may or may not leave some clues as to where they've hidden the treasure, the Goblins may never know.

As was pointed out in the Deathly Hallows, Goblins want us to share wand lore with them, but refuse to share their metal lore with us. So they want us to teach them how to make and use wands, but don't want to return in kind by teaching us how to work with metals and imbibing them with magic. A bit hypocritical aren't they.

That would be better for relations. People need to understand those expectations. I think they dont tell people because they see it as so obvious. Yeah, the whole idea makes no sense (like many things in the HP world). If a certain amount of money is sufficient for a lifetime rental, then why can't they set a price for permanent ownership? If the goblin wants the item back, do they give the money back? No! It's not a sufficient justification to say, "That's just the goblins' way." Why should I give you back something I paid money for, if you're not going to give me the money back? And what happens if the goblin who made the item dies? Does he get to pass the ownership on to his next of kin? That's rather hypocritical. And unfair by any standard. Do goblins give back everything they ever purchase from non-goblins?
@beatrixthegreat1138
@beatrixthegreat1138 4 года назад
If goblins give up ownership of things they created but sold then I can see a concession of saying “yeah you can buy a wand bro” Look at it like a cultural exchange. Goblin belief vrs human belief. Flitwick is proof we can set aside our differences and do something amazing.
@TheBacknblack92
@TheBacknblack92 4 года назад
One individual isnt proof of anything. Look at the two rebellions and the goblin king lying, which every goblin believed. Those things are better proof than some half breed being okay. No reason to create a potential threat if you do not have to. It would be stupid of the government to allow a threat like that to grow in power. Governments that allow people who dont share a culture and value to grow stronger are not governments for very long, and the people with those values will suffer under the new regime This video is also biased in the goblins favor. Theyre lying, and stealing cheaters who also will not share their knowledge of metal working. So fuck em.

I guess u can say that goblin and human cultures are like oil and water. They cannot, and will never, be able to mix. Not one to disregard a different set of beliefs, but you can see that goblins work in a more self serving manner. It's like dealing with a cutthroat businessman. They're dangerous to make any kind of deals with because they will ensure that they will not come out on the bad side of the deal. Maybe there might be goblins who are more cooperative and behave differently from the rest (like Flitwick), but they're rare. While not all humans are helpful, it is generally accepted that it is beneficial to be cooperative.

The Goblins of Harry Potter world remind me quite a bit of the Ferengi of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Their obsession with money, unwillingness to share information, seen as untrustworthy allies. I wonder if J.K.R watched Star Trek at any point and subliminally picked up on this.

I will answer with, if you show me yours... They have powerful wandless magic and may not be able to teach that but they could share their metal working. I do agree it is partially about power but the goblins have also on occasion shown themselves to be rather despicable, hence I would argue they do not deserve wands as they would just cause further problems, after numerous rebellions and who knows how much back stabbing and what not I would say they are lucky to just be a species and not a lesson of a dead civilization that crossed blades with the wizarding world one to many times.

I mean it is possible for human wizards/witches to learn wandless magic and even become quite powerful in it. Same as things like flying without a broom. I just think some magic is easier or harder to learn without a wand. I mean summoning spells are technically wandless magic. Since you see Harry summon the port key in Goblet of Fire without his wand and Wizards summon their own wands back to them if disarmed sometimes.

Noobie2k7 yeah if you seen Harry summon something without a wand in a movie it doesn’t matter because it’s not canon. Anyone else thinking how the sense of property for goblins is straight up feudal and Medieval? This is just the view of the British Ministry, we don't know how goblins are treated in other countries (MACUSA seems to have goblins employees), so, maybe goblins could use wands in other countries... also, wands are a European invention, and it is told that other continents not every wizard/witch uses a wand, but only Africans are told of being particular adept of wandless magic. So, what about chinese or indian? if they don't all use wands, there must be other objects of similar function, a focus. PSA: The "Flitwick Change" in the movies is NOT cannon and has NOTHING to do with him being part goblin!!! Flitwick never appeared in the script for Prisoner of Azkaban, but they decided to cast Warwick Davis as "the choir director" because they'd already worked with him in the first two movies. This was intended to be a completely different character, but after production, the director decided he preferred the image of the "choir director" and decided to keep it for Flitwick in the future, especially since the two characters were played by the same actor.

Goblins are masters of wandless magic. The goblin wars were over ethics and rights. What if the unspoken secret of the goblins is that wands actually hamper their ability to do magic? The wizards see a wand as a symbol of superiority and power. The clever goblins realize that allowing the wizards to deny them the use of wands makes the wizards think they are crippling the goblins, when the truth is, goblins do much stronger magic without wands, and wands just interfere with their abilities and hamper them. Oh those clever, clever, goblins! No wonder they run the financial affairs of the wizarding world! (House Ravenclaw)

The answer is a big NO. Goblins have adamantly refused to teach there metalcraft techniques yet demanding that wizards give up there secrets of wandlore. They can keep there methods and we can keep our own because as a whole Goblins can never be trusted to take any advantage they can get and use it against wizards as shown when they attempted to kill a still living Godric for his sword despite there so called laws of business. They have control of Gringotts and they have influence in the world but when the time comes they turn there claws back to wizards they should be brought to hill once more to a point they learn from their folly and greed.
