I think it's a pretty gross trend, and I gotta point the finger at Ryan Murphy, who I feel kicked it off with his 'hot' Nightstalker in AHS 1984 (2019). Richard Ramirez was 'conventionally ugly' and preyed on children as well as adults, so giving him a hotlift was particularly offputting to me and I didn't finish that season. With Murphy also behind Monster and Monsters... Murphy pushing his fetishes on TV was fun for a while but has become problematic.
It was always problematic. No one should be allowing him to do this. There are a few videos about his role in exploiting 'true crime' and his questionable character as a person.
it's not even just the actors themselves being attractive, it's also the way their shot and literally framed as attractive--glorifying more than anything else
Yeah I can understand casting Zac Efron as Ted Bundy because Ted Bundy was known for using his good looks to lure and manipulate woman to his clutches but casting these two very attractive actors as the Menendez brothers it's just why ? , it wouldn't be so eregious if Ryan Murphy wasn't always showing them half naked , and working out sweating and glisting and really Ryan the close up ass shot while he's doing squats Lmao
yeah... and casting the attractive actors is not so much the problem in Monsters (because the looks of the brothers irl also played and still plays a big role in their popularity, so you can't really ignore that) but like you said: the way it was shot, sexualizing them... that is just Ryan Murphy's thing apparently.....
The problem is Ryan sexualizing these two abuse victims and trying to make crime attractive + all the times he has been disrespectful towards the families of the victims across all his crime shows.
You're not the only one thirsting for Nick right now Becky don't worry🤣 as for these points, I think most of the time the casting is good with being mindful of who to select as the killer, but I'm noticing it's more of a Ryan Murphy trend with him casting these hot actors as killers in ALL of his AHS seasons, so for him to do this here for these real life docudrama series isn't surprising and he's starting to become a bit like Sam Levinson to me :$
You keep attributing to "they" what can easily be attributable to Ryan Murphy himself. He himself is a little wanna be perpetrator. And part of the way he indulges in this, is through fetishism of violence and it's perpetrators, then imposing this onto an audience.
In my friend dahmer Ross Lynch played Young Dahmer, and it’s speculated that in monsters season 3 Charlie Hunnamm will play Ed Gein this shi will ever end
Evan Peters was a brilliant choice to play Dahmer. He brought incredible realism to the story & does resemble the real Dahmer. Also, Peters isn’t really so handsome that his looks detract from the role. Casting Zac Efron as Bundy was perfect because part of the Ted Bundy’s charm & how he lured women was the fact that the real Bundy WAS very good looking & charismatic. As for the Menendez brothers, yeah the actors are very buff and sexualized, but face wise, the real brothers are actually more handsome than the actors, in my opinion. So basically, too much drama is being made about their looks.
Bundy wasn’t that good looking in my opinion. When I first saw the trailer for that Ted Bundy movie I actually didn’t know it was a Ted Bundy movie because the actor playing the murder was hot. Then the credits showed the actor was Zac Efron and then I realized “oh that explains why he’s hot” and thus surprised to know that he was playing Bundy.
For a compare/contrast of the same plots with an 'ugly' killer and a more conventionally attractive one, check out both versions of Maniac - with the interesting looking Joe Spinnel in the original and Elijah Wood in the remake.
That'd be a nope from me. Aside from Elijah Wood being my childhood crush, I've also literally grown up seeing him portray Frodo Baggins in Lord Of The Rings, seeing him play some gross psycho killer would seriously fuck my mind up.
@@aelinorholloway3669 The remake barely shows Elijah by making it through his pov most of the time 😉 He still gives a really great performance as a man tortured by his urges.
@@LordVolkov I'm sure he does, Elijah Wood is super talented. I'm just not into the whole glamorized hybristophila theme. I think the closest I've come to that, is when I was crushing on Lestat and Armand from the Vampire Chronicles, and as an adult I cannot stand Lestat. And watching the Ted Bundy film with Zac Efron. All of the other stuff involving actual or fictional murderers or serial killers I just can't do it. I can watch actual true crime documentaries till the sun goes down but not actual dramatized movies or shows about killers. Lol, I actually pull this out when I'm watching a movie with Elijah Wood in it and my parents claim I'm only watching the movie because of him. If I was doing that then why have I never watched the one slasher film Elijah Wood was in?
My question to counter is this part of the reality of these killers? I believe Ted Bundy was known to be charming and attractive. The fact that these people charmed the public is what makes things so twisted.
Ryan Murphy likes to do this. It’s the Ryan Murphy male gaze for actors he finds attractive to then use to play killers which makes no real logical sense as far as storytelling goes.
It's not about casting hot actors. it's about casting someone who resembles the killer in physical appearance, and it just so happens to be actors like Evan Peters and Zac Efron that's just a conscience and people really need to stop pointing the fingers at the directors for casting these actors its ridiculous.
Unfortunately this isn't new. Mark Harmon played Ted Bundy in Deliberate Stranger in the 80s. I rember crushing so bad on him back then, confusing the actor with the role.My wake up call was when a local girl was murdered by one of my older sister's former classmates in 1989. It made me realize the impact devistating impact this kind of violence has. I didn't know the girl or the killer but I knew people who did and that was enough to make me see at 17 that killers are not hot misunderstood bad boys.
I can’t imagine what actors do to get in the mindset to play these roles because doing research makes them see the most sickening and disgusting thing and then they have to play it. I can only imagine how much they have to compartmentalize or therapy they have to have in order to move on from these roles.
I'm not interested in actors solely based on their talent or looks. Personally, when I watch actors, it has to be someone I've followed for years, seen in many movies and TV shows. I need to have a connection with them to be interested. If not, I lose interest and get bored quickly. I prefer actors who have appeared in multiple films and TV series. That's just my preference. I'm a huge fan of Zac Efron and Evan Peters, both incredibly talented and attractive actors. I also appreciate new talents like Erik and his brother. I believe they committed the crimes not due to abuse, but for financial gain.I’m really looking forward to Charlie in the new series thank you for the video
@@jadacampbell9331 that just my opinion i just fall in love with them like when Evan did sleep over and then Zac because of high musical that what i mean i have to be a long time and loyal fan
