Story from the UK from last year... A company used glasshouses to grow food for the UK and EU... They produced like 100% of UK food for like 3 types of food and 20% to 90% for 2 to 5 others When gas prices spiked due to the war with Russia and Ukraine their fuel price went from a few million to 12 to 16 million. When the government refused to help them the same day they closed and sold off the company greenhouses to a house developer company. I can send you some links via Twitter etc. if you want me to.

Add to this and Brexit fresh food prices have risen up to 80% and fresh food is in short supply with a shelf life of a lot less in the last few years

All of the failures track to four core problems: 1) energy costs, 2) DIY / Not-Invented Here (tech company focus instead of running an operational physical commodities business), 3) Location choice (high cost urban locations), and 4) labor costs (higher costs in most urban areas vs rural ones 2-4 hours away). Companies like Aerofarms wasted tens of millions on tech R&D, built at the wrong operating scale, and located in very high cost areas. In bankruptcy, they moved their operations to Danville VA (much lower cost area compared to NYC suburbs in Newark). Likewise, all of the urban areas are completely unsuitable for co-locating megawatt scale renewable energy. Energy killed App Harvest and a bunch of European players.

Wow! Extremely expensive systems. Unfortunately most regular people couldn't justify the cost of these systems. Even though it would eventually pay for itself. Unless your a heavy marijuana user than it's worth it IMO.

thats why we are doing the crowdfund...we can't compete with Chinese prices unless we get more buying power and get to do a design update to address manufacturing costs. Our systems are middle of the road on cost when compared to the competition so we are in the competitive space but we need to get the cost down to help more folks
