I really like how people are saying stuff like "I dropped my $300 glasses and they broke, Oakleys suck!". If you spend a lot of money on something, TAKE CARE OF IT.
Excellent video.. Thank you! I have a pair of Oakley Radar Path, and after watching this video, I'm proud I have it.... You won't go wrong with Oakley..
Juliets are actually alot smaller than people would initially think. They are the same size as an Oakley Minuet or Oakley five. The difference is the titanium frame which makes it look larger. So if either the minuet or five is too small for your face than go with half-jackets. Also what should be noted is weather or not you want an XLJ lense in your half-jackets. The XLJ lens extends farther below the frame and ends in a wavy cut. This looks much better for a larger face. feel free to ask if you
oh yeah i did research and i tried them on, there awesome, I bought them in the polished rootbeer color with bronze lens, I cant wait for them to get here. thanx
@andrewcase22 It is supposed to show how durable they are. Case in point hundreds of soldiers eyes have been saves due to their Oakley glasses/goggles blocking shrapnel and even bullets. In fact I know a police officer who was saved by his Oakleys'.
I have m frames and took a line drive from baseball to the glasses the scuffed a little but didn't break. Plus when you buy them you get a one year warranty just in case a 500g metal spike hit you in the eye.
So, These tests apply to all Oakley sunglasses? Or only certain models? I'd really like a nice pair of tough sunglasses, But I just want to make sure I get the right kind when I'm going to pay a lot of money for them
These glasses are supposed to be S.I. anyway ie. intended for military or law enforcement use. There are dozens of testimonials of how these glasses saved soldiers' sight in combat. You can read them on Oakley's website.
I was a manager for Hibbett Sports, and they gave us classes on every major brand we sold. Oakley was the one and only brand i truly felt wasn't a rip off. As for protection we had an Oakley rep bring a pair of glasses an Army Ranger had worn when his HumV was hit by an IED. The pictures showed that they stopped a 5 inch piece of steel from cutting through his face, the Oakley Radars stopped the 3 inches of the steel it covered and only left a minor cut on his cheek from the remaining 2.
Glad I'm a Oakley fan :) this info was reassuring to me that not only am i wearing them with style, but im protected from the suns harmful rays and brightness, and things flying at my eyes! :) Oakleys are worth buying..at least 1 pair.
I've had a pair of Oakley Scar's with Blue Iridium lenses since 2001. The first couple of years I was really worried about getting them scratched and such, since it was the most expensive sunnies I had ever bought. Since maybe 2004, I have not used the cloth coverbag or anything, just chucked them in my pocket with keys etc, and the lenses have NOT a single scratch. I also once accidentally rolled them inside my tent, and yet they never bend or broke or scratched.Oakley is UBER quality.
@laxgolie4ever funny you should say that.... Oakleys are issued to Soldiers serving in Iraq and Afganistan. I just bought a second pair... Ive owned several types of ballistic eye wear and i have to admit oakleys are top quality
Oakley's I've owned 1. Black Rain Positive Red Frog Skins 2. M Frame old school Mumbos with red iridium 3. laser cut N2T's which were before they were called dots 4. Custom Black Iridium Dogs with etched name --- A fence punched me in the face of course they didn't break, but they had a nice scuff on the lenses. I had to pop them out and get replacement perscription lenses. 5. Custom Ice Iridium Polarized polished juliets 6. perscription box springs 7. Perscription blak cherry ratchet 4.0s
Almost all sunglasses I have seen have 100 percent UV protection. I have no clue who told you that only polarized sunglasses protect your eyes. Polarized sunglasses just reduce glare and make beaches and oceans look great.
In case anyone is curious, A single company makes all of the glasses for pretty much every designer brand. They also completely own a significant amount of the companies including oakley and ray ban. And unless you are buying your glasses from walmart, you probably bought your glasses from one of their owned retail stores.
thats why this company sucks major dick. I laughed at every Foakly owners that flashes their sunglasses cuz they think its "high class" when its really made of low grade china plastics lol. lots of people hate them for a reason!
Yes it is a single company that owns them all, but they do act independently. Oakley operates completely separately than Ray-Ban, or other designers, they simply are owned by a parent company and sold in the same stores. Luxottica (Parent Company) more or less does it for benefits resulting from economies of scale, rather than deceiving consumers. There is a great 60 Minutes special regarding them.
@kinkaid25 okay... you cant making a general assumption about scratching on oakleys because there are certain types of lenses that scratch more easily than others, i know this may not matte rto you but i looked at bolle glasses aswel but the style just wasnt that great i know style isnt everything but style and quality opposed to bolle which just offers quality =0 kinda
@azmirreader Ive had a pair of oilrigs going on two years now, without any problems. I try not to go anywhere without them. They're the best sunglasses I've ever had! Worth the money, in my opinion.
I've had my A-wire's since 2000 (they are 10 years old). I ran over them with the car this weekend (accidentally of course). It only bent the frames. Bent them back and I'm still wearing them.
i think so, unless your getting hit with a shot spike from a gun, your pretty much set. The guy I bought mine from said they shot the glasses with a shotgun and there wasn't much damage!
i just got a pair of oakley flak jackets and they are amazing, well they are also polarized so that adds a nice touch to them, well anyways if you are looking to buy a good pair of reasonably priced glasses i would go with the flak jackets..
@kinkaid25 i've had my oakley jupiter's for over a month now amd i SWEAR THERE IS NO SCRATCHES... because i am responsable and take care of them, they wont scratch if you take care of them and store them properly
Actually I'm considering getting a pair of Oakley, their design is nice and they fit perfectly, but I read some complaints online about the coating peals off within first year and some spotting on the lens. Is this true? I know there is a one year warranty, but what about after that? If this is the case, then it wouldn't worth it paying extra for sunglasses that won't live past a year! Any experienced opinion would be appreciated :-)
I like Oakley, but Revision eyewear also has a very high ANSI rating. The US army is standard issued the Revision Sawfly glasses, and they are amazing. Both glasses will protect your eyes though. I love Oakley and Revision as both are great.
oakleys are sweet, i just recently bought the oakley oil drum lil jon signature series for £120, and i love them however i will not be trying any of these tests with them :)
@kinkaid25 "He reckons?" As in he's never actually tried to find out. Thing is, Oakley lenses are pretty cheap for a store that buys them at cost to sell. We just took a pair of lenses and beat on them to find out. We tell customers they can have a free pair of Jawbones if they can break the lenses. No one's ever come close to being able to. Sometimes we just throw them on the ground and jump on them to show their strength. Sorry but no other polycarbonate or glass lens can take that.
I've had four pairs from the older models (XXs, Minute, etc) in the past. They're all resting in piece now. I never thought the lenses are these strong. The problems that i expeirenced with them were that the rubber jackets (got) soft during summer time the lenses (got) scratched so easily, and a broken right frame. Now that you can custom pick what you want, I'm still more likely to buy again they just look good man.
so true. i have these 10 dollar cheap fake aviators that i bought at the mall or something and i decided to test out how it would react to a 500ft/sec bb. i shot the glasses at +/- 5 feet point blank. i was amazed that these cheap sunglasses that are 13x cheaper than my Oil Rigs which cost around $130 could withstand that. it was cracked but no penetration on the other side. i still love both my GasCan S and Oil Rigs though, wouldn't trade 'em for anything else.
@Pmecg hi , just brought 2 pairs ! both matt black / grey , brought my partner oakley breathless at christmas but when i got my monster dogs couple of mounths ago she like't them better so went out and got other pair same , we both love em , dont think you will be disapointed if you treat yourself ! all the best r.
The two below are clearly short minded. We are a culture that loves exceeding necessity. "This car will go 0-60 in 3 seconds" "Ok is that really necessary?" "well no but its cool". Atleast oakley is moving in the right direction by upping the durability of their glasses. Why would you argue with strong lenses? These test aren't meant to simulate real life situations but to demonstrate strength. I for one love my oakley jullietes and think they are worth every penny.
That's not the point..What I was getting at was that the these glasses will protect your eyes. That's all I meant by it. A rock moving at 60 something mph can still do some damage to your eyes... And honestly, I've never worn non-safety rated glasses. I've been in a heavy trade for my whole life.
@Thatzacguy I didnt have time to explain.....but cheap sunglasses actually just open your eyes to the sun more, giving them the illusion that they are safe from the harmful UV rays(in this case its better to just not wear glasses at all), but they can usually just pass right through, If you can take good care of your stuff, it would be smart to get your self some good glasses, 200$ is not a lot of money man.
@Nateb123 Was in the army for 6 years and never seen a pair of Oakleys. We did get Wiley X brand stuff though. Is this something new? Even the PX didn't sell them, only Bolle, Arnette and Maui Jim from what I remember. 82ND ABN/ 75th Ranger
I also wear Oakley sunglasses and can recommend it to everyone, I have the XX with black polarized lens and I am so satisfied that when first got stolen from my baggage on the airport, I bought exactly the same model again.
I have a pair of Oakley XX (20's), I don't know if their produced anymore as I don't see them on the Oakley website, but do they have the same protection?
They're great glasses, but I don't dodge BB's or metal spikes everyday. Going skiing with them is a great use for them though. Especialy on those sunny days.
@kinkaid25 I agree the Oakleys just don't perform well for the price. I have 2 dollar safety glasses that hold up longer (not to mention look better). I use Bolle and Spy for the most part.
@2onyandrews How many people are going to be wearing other brands in the car when they crash and will go blind because the air bag shattered their sunglasses? Tons of people used polarized lenses for driving to cut the glare off other vehicles.
I had a pair that broke right in the center of the earpiece :L not even at the joint. fell right off my head. didnt even have them a year. purchased from an oakley store. totally disappointed.
i dont like how streamlined oakleys are, i prefer rayban wayfarers, outdoorsmen, and clubmasters. i like how they dont wrap around your face, and are straight across rather than curved
Oakleys are awesome, I happened to be laying out in my yard with my Oakley's on and all of a sudden a 500MG Pointed spike fell from the sky right into my right eye, but Im completely fine because I had my Oakleys on and they blocked the impact, care ful out there, it could happen to you, get sum oakleys!
Remember that you only have one set of eyes and they are going to be with you for the rest of your life. If you work as a police officer, security officer, or even in the military or just going to the shooting range anything can and will happen at anytime. That's why i trust my eyes to Oakley.
Good I just bought a pair, wasnt sure if the sales person was just telling me what i wanted to hear? "They make me look like arnie" rofl nar not really ., But they do look good.
Guy's, these frames are amazing! I just bought a pair the other day and upon checking out the employee was showing me how to change the lenses and once the lenses were out he took the frame and twisted it literally 180 degrees like he was wringing out a towel. I was like, WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING?! but he assured me that these frames are flexible and strong enough to handle it.
they are not the only company that puts their glasses through these tests and pass with flying colors. They only advertise it mopre than anyone else. Do your research outside of the Oakley camp and you will find out quickly. And in Terms of clarity, Maui Jim, is the number one optomatrist recomended sunglass on the planet. They are the sunglass that offers ABSOLUTE ZERO distortion. They also are the lightest and most flexable glasses. are all Polorized, water, and sweat proof. And are also made
Once you buy these can I take them to an optometrist and get prescription lenses put in? If so how much would that cost? I have to were glasses 24/7. Please rep
@jshawn777 - the lenses are tested. The wire frames are also tested, but are, when compared to the o-matter frames a bit weaker as the Oliminum (Aluminum blend) is a bit more flexible than O-matter (nylon based) material.
The Scalpels do not look like x-men. That's the Penny (discountinued) or the Juliet (still available). And those ARE metal frames. They're 100% titanium. The scalpel is O-matter which is a nylon based plastic type material. If you get a "polished" finish on the scalpel like polished white or polished black, they are going to show little fine scratches in the finish, just like a car. My wife's $1000 Prada sunglasses showed scratches the SAME DAY she got them. Its how you care for them.
Straight Jacket sounds authoritative to you? Cops (and military) often wear Oakley because 1) They get discount pricing, and 2) They qualify as "safety lenses" due to their documented strength.
Hi i just bought a holbrook i have a big head.. I have this problem of having headaches if the shades doesn't fit well.... The staff at oakley said it will bend to the contours of my head in about 2 weeks.. They also suggested i bend it overnight... Will it really bend after wearing it for a long time? Thanks .. I'll return it if it wouldn't.
Iv had oakleys and Costa del Mars, both ended up stretching to the normal everyday position they where in. I also had both for years(until they got stolen >:(
@mifan93 haha i noticed the same thing. the bottom of them rub or kinda bother the top of my ears lol. but theyre sexy as hell so i dont care lol. the polished ones arent as bad as the matte black. i have both and the polished are more comfortable
Hi,impact protection is a very important feature of these lenses, but another that is filtration of UV radiation. I have searched but I have not got videos showing this feature. You can show some video evidence UV absorption? Thanks.
well that is just the test. it could be anything for example. last night at my jv baseball game a line drive hit me straight in the eye. i was wearing my oakley flak jackets. it hurt like hell be i dont have a black eye and the glasses are fine. i would invest in a pair if it i was you.. but im not so the choice is yours.
Who are you how do you know this about me ? "get out of my head" "get out" lol. I'll explain it as easy as I can one the Wii is a video game console that has an Internet Browser, Netflix and Hulu plus, btw I paid $250 in 2008 for it. so you can't compare that to designer sunglasses and don't get me wrong. Oakleys are nice and I'd definitively spend $100 on a pair of Oakleys than Nike's or whatever. but the problem is I can't find a pair for that even online in their Vault Store.?
Actually I paid $250 for my 3DS and my Wii and I use my cell phone for my crappy videos. or as some called it a potato and if it makes you fell any better I bought a oakley hat last week. since it was only $20 and i'm waiting for a pair of glasses I like to drop down to around a $100. I've been to the vault store those are really my style and I don't trust ebay or even amazon.!
Because I'm sure whenever someone attempts to shoot me at nearly point blank with a wheel bearing gun contraption, Oakleys will save me. And that's assuming that I get shot in the eye. I'd rather get good sunglasseand rely on myself to protect my eyes from whatever may threaten me. Seems to make a lot more sense than spending hundreds of dollars.
+Jayden Scott I know enough to have determined that the chance of these tests ever proving useful are little to none. If they protect me from the sun, they're good.
@2onyandrews It doesn't have to do with getting shot in the face with a bb. You could be walking along the street and a rock could hit you in the face from a lawn mower or a weed wacker, for example. It proves that if you are wearing Oakley brand sunglasses your eyes will be protected.
yeah thats exactly why those people get oakleys for $50 each, they wear m frames when shooting heavy machine guns and i never knew they were like an eye shield
yea but the whole point is if a bb got shot at your eye the oakleys would stop it from shooting your eye out (haha that was from the movie a christmas story) and you would have to buy more lenses but at least your not blind
at first i didnt want to buy an oakley after seeing my mom and brother's pair lasting 3 years+ they're really worth the money..im getting one this summer..
my frogskin lenses make me see my own eyes when i look through them and like my face. can i get different lenses to stop that or is that just the shape of the lens that makes that happen
I am getting into shooting and realize that ricochets do happen. Therefore, I want the highest level of protections for my eyes. This test demonstrates that protection.
