Why Are TCG Exclusive Archetypes So BAD? 

what i hate about ashened and most recent tcg archetypes in general is that wave 1 usually has that 'and then what?'-ness to them. wave 1 ashened had like raigeki, field spell destructions but didnt have even ANY hint on what the intended payoff is supposed to be. then wave 2 comes along and your fuckin payoff is like that? then wave 2 comes around and then your payoff is just being a worse version of existing decks. like is the current way they do tcg archetypes even a good way to sell them? wouldnt like giving people the payoff of the deck wave 1 and them hoping they get something like a poplar/circular or whatever new broken thing better than 'heres cards that dont really do anything' and release another wave of 'they still dont do anything'

the current ashened cards are demon souls, the ocg support will be dark souls

To this day I'll never forgive the TCG for what they did to Vendread. Most hyped I've ever been for a new archetype and it became a more and more dreadful (heh) experience with every new set of support it got.

Shoutout to Ghoti. 1 level 4 Fish tuner, printed back in 2009. Designed around an insane banish-based grind game, no way to start said grind game. Cool monsters and an insane Field spell, dogshit traps instead of important interaction or grind game starters.

"why play this when you can just play yubel?" Jokes on you I play them both at the same time >:). In all honestly the main problem with the archetype is that it's too fair for what the game is right now, this is a early 2015 deck in terms of power but the game is so far beyond that. A lot of these new cards are good, are really helpful with the decks main problem where by turn 3-4 you've ran out of everything Shaman, the negate and the small fusion works for that. Enkindling is good because it doesn't pyro lock from deck so I can keep going with yubel instead of trying to do yubel first then ashened. Spearhead is very niche but is like a side option at it's worst but it's also an extra lvl 4 and not wasting priestess just to make banshee is good. I mainly wish this deck had more than just 3 (5 now with the new cards) interruptions. I feel Konamii is trying to get away from the fat dragon omni-negate boards that was plaguing the game but the interaction/interruption game is not that well put together yet.

"I'd rather have broken decks than bad decks" I think I couldn't disagree more even if I wanted to. I'd rather have 20 different Ashened-like decks than one more "I play ash, I win" deck. Not everything needs to be broken imo.

TCG feels obligated to print TCG exclusives to justify the delay in release as well as to lower the chances of pulling the good cards in a set, pushing people to buy more of sets to get to the good cards. This is also why core sets are bad, packs are 8 commons and 1 super rare or better which is just bad as Super rares are just rarity bumped OCG rares, everything from OCG is bumped up in rarity and few are down graded to even out the over abundance of commons in packs.

the last good TCG archetype was gold pride at least ghoti got some great support hopefully tistina and ashened get some good cards from the OCG too.

The day they release a few more good cards for Time Thief, I can't wait to see it tiered.

Man, it's 2024 and they released a deck that could have been tier 2 in 2014. Worst part is I'm not joking, I think this can't beat 2014 Burning Abyss.

hard disagree with this, just because they aren't snake-eye, or tearlement, does not mean they are bad, they have a combo line, and an unique end game for that combo, which is more than can be said about some decks

Is it just me or even if this TCG-Exclusive cards are broken. Like I get it right now it isn't but remember Burning Abyss? I guess, it would take these cards be released on OCG to be experimented on by OCG?

I think ashened might be even worse than you realize, the ideal fusion target requires "level 9 or lower pyro monsters" which most decks don't end the board with. So, you're likely going to have to provide your own monsters on top of it.

My theory is that after Burning Abyss and Spyral, the OCG overlords told the TCG that they couldnt make any more meta busting TCGEX archtypes that are better than the base set archtypes

I'd rather take forgettable decks or a format full of em than an abundance of broken decks. But hey, that's my subjective opinion
