Finding queen cells in a new colony may cause you to panic. However, they are very common. In this video we will discuss one of the likely reasons your bees are making these cells.

That was the best and easiest to understand explanation of those cells found in a new hive I have heard. They have caused lots of us newbees much concern lol Thank you. This was most helpful!! 👍👍 Have a great day!

So I installed a package of bees on May 31st (live in Peninsula, Ohio) On all my previous inspections I had eggs, larvae, brood and always saw my queen. The hive seemed to be growing great. Today on inspection I saw No eggs. I did see larvae and still have capped brood. I did not see the queen. However, I also saw 2 queen cells. The queen cells were on the middle of the frame, not at the bottom. I have a feeling I have no queen. I saw eggs on every inspection but today. I closed the hive back up and will check in a few days. Does it sound like they are replacing the original queen? Looking for advice. Thank you.

Sorry for the late response. I was on vacation. Were there eggs or larvae in those queen cells?

Hi Nikki we just got 2 nucs last week of May, transferred them to two separate deeps and we have notice what you’ve described with the supercidure cells. 2 have royal jelly in them 2 have been capped. Any advice. Thanks

Goodday lady. That supercedure cell has a queen to be, in there(assuming it is sealed).If I remove the cell, let her develop and use her in an other split,will that be the correct thing to do? Actually it is my intention to harvest all the "queen cells" I can and use them elsewhere(preventing inbreeding). You're knowledge will be appreciated. I thank you,Cobus🐬

I received a nuc with a dead queen. The supplier gave me another one ( queen right). I combined the two nucs. 8 days later I have 22 Capped super cedure cells. I made splits with two frame nucs. I am waiting ten days to see if I get any laying queens. Have I done right?

Good video. My package has been trying to create a new queen and I tore them down. Last Sunday I noticed one with two eggs. Only cell with two. Weird. Many capped brood. She is laying well so not sure why. I will check them again and let them do their thing. I’m doing a package vs nuc challenge and I have already split my nuc, because of swarm cells, they had twenty on one side of a frame!! Haha. After that the virgin swarmed!! Ugh 😩 caught them and rehived them. Found 5 more virgins in the original colony. Left one for them and made another small split. After a week no eggs in either of the three. I’ll check this Saturday and recombine them if the mating flights failed. If none of them make it back then I will combine them all back with their original queen. Haha.

20 on one frame?! I don't think I've ever had that many. It sounds like these girls are keeping you on your toes!

@@sweetbeefarms it’s been a nightmare!! I wish I got pictures but I was so panicked. 😂 off that one nuc I got a month ago, I ha e split it 5 times. But they’re weak. I may just combine them again to make one big one. This weekend will tell who has queens or not.

Just installed our first hive and thought I saw some queen cells. Straight away worried me but this video was exactly what I needed. Wish it was the first video to pop up. Would of saved me an hour of other less helpful videos.

In superceding queen where does original queen go, can she left hive with swarm??
@sweetbeefarms

The queen will typically leave with the swarm and the new queen will take her place.

HOLY MOLY! It is almost like that powers that bee (lol) sent this video to me. I received my bees in April, the queen was released by the workers everything was great. I checked them two days ago and now I have supercedure cells on three of my frames. All the supercedure cells were empty though. I WAS FREAKING OUT! Your explanation was to the point and easy to understand. This newbee (can't help it LOL) is grateful for sure and a little more relaxed. Please do more videos, thank you :)

I installed a Russian queen into my split I made from my strong hive and they started making queen cells the Russian queen finally started laying like after a week of being in the hive they have made a few queen cells but they have definitely slowed down. I don’t want them to make their own queen as I want this have to be a Russian hive….
