I used to build Parker boats back in the early 2000s out of Beaufort North Carolina excellent boat excellent company to work for good people all the way around love their boat love how they were constructed you can get baitwell with them if you order the boat with a baitwell

Had a Parker on order 20 years ago, ended up cancelling and having Blackman build us a 26' Fishmachine. We were glad we did as the inboard diesel sipped fuel and the fish hold was huge. Plus, it was turnkey with a California sized bait tank. It is sad that Blackman is no more...

Backbreaker boats... Used them along east entire coast for work and pleasure. Can't stand up inside, cabin not for tall people. But nice simple layout. Ran both deep v and modified; Inshore and offshore. Lot options and sizes, very popular on east coast too. I prefer Steiger Craft. Better ride and solid hull. But it's a small operation. I think Steiger and Parker are two top tier fiberglass pilot and cc boat companies.

Having fished on a couple 2320s and 2325 with very good and reputable charter boats out of san Diego I would still rather have a Center Console being able to walk around and hold tension on the line IN CHOPPY WEATHER and not have the fish able to create slack in the line or move the hook around in their mouth in the moments that it takes to get to the front deck is a huge plus for me and especially fighting multiple big fish in choppy weather is invaluable. It was really tough to climb up to the front in choppy weather to toss iron to boiling tuna with multiple anglers on the front not one but multiple. However, having said that Parkers are RELIABLE and built well for the price. Having fished a private boat when I was a younger we messed a few fishing trips due to not fishing a parker and going the cheaper route. Parkers are like the Toyotas of the fishing world with good maintenance care from the owner they will just go and go. Meaning more fishing time and more fish in your sack.

I agree its a little tricky to get to the front with a bent rod in hand, I definitely utilize the top rail on the hardtop. Its also not as easy to stand and cast with the shorter bow rail in front. Personally I think the trade off is worth it though. With some practice and a lot PATIENCE, if you read a school correctly you approach them at a 45 or 30 degree angle (not head on) and you can cast from the back and whip the stern in. Also, with a second helm you can always back in on em from the deck. Everyone has their personal preferences but these are the techniques I have found that work well for me. Most guys in San Diego have center consoles because they don't anchor at the islands overnight. That's just the trend I see.

Greetings from the northeast. I am late to the party as I just found this video. I love the sport cabin line of Parkers. 7 or 8 years ago I was looking to make the jump from my old 1991 Mako 191 classic center console to a bigger boat. I don't live in the new boat world, so I spent a lot of time looking in the used market. I looked at a lot of the 23 pilots but ended up going with a Grady White 232 Gulfstream model. 3 major reasons were that the Grady had almost a foot more beam, weight was a little more which helped with the ride and the freeboard on the cockpit is, in my opinion, way too low for offshore on the Parker. I am only 5-9" and the gunwales barely came to my knees. Other than that, they had very similar items like the outboard bracket, fuel capacity, and windlass. I wouldn't turn someone away from the Parker, just a comfort and safety personal preference thing. Stay safe and keep catchin' fish!

I really like the fit and finish of Northcoast Boats but there is no dealers in California. My only digs on the Pilothouse versions was the cabin wasn’t completely closed, and the access hatch to the bilge which is nice is too big to fit a bait tank in the center of the deck.

If you can manage to find a privateer they are rougher finished boats but even heavier (brick shit house heavy) one of the only fiberglass hulls USCG certified for light ice breaking. Built in belhaven NC right up the road from Parker. C-hawk is another heavy well constructed NC cabin boat.

So im from Alaska, been looking for a new boat. I find it weird that onboard fuel capacity is a limiting factor for people. Can you not bring extra fuel in california? I wouldnt be surprised. Im looking at Skagit Orca or Baha crusiers. No one has really said anything abt how parker boats ride or cut chop, that about 75% of my decision living in Alaska. I have a 2252 bayliner and love how she cuts through chop like a hot knife through butter. Bow deadrise and rear deadrise matter.

I looked at Parker’s, Rangers, and Robalo and ended up with Robalo Cayman 226. Theres quite a few of them on the West coast now. I love my Cayman because it has a ton of storage, has good range-230 miles, easy to tow and store, rides very well on the water for a 23 foot CC. I rarely use my anchor because I have a trolling motor with spot lock so I can anchor in 5000ft of water controlled by GPS. I can also go in real skinny water and fish for calico’s close in shallow water. I have gone to Clemente and Catalina. My son and I have stayed on the boat for three days and two night sleeping in tent cots. The only thing I wish I had was that nice dry cabin the Parker has lol. The thing that I didn’t like about the Parker was lack of storage., I mean they have zero storage. I don’t know why they don’t have fish boxes in the deck sides like most sport cabins.
@ChasingPelagics
@ChasingPelagics 3 года назад
Ya storage is tough compared to a CC. My plano boxes took up the entire bench seat.
@ultimatejay
@ultimatejay 3 года назад
Chasing Pelagics - my Cayman has a huge storage compartment under the rear seat, has 3, 40 gallon live wells in which I use the front one as an extra cooler or storage, then it has a large rod locker on left side with storage and has another fish box in the right front and Then I have all the storage in the center console. Parker needs to step up in this department for sure

@@ultimatejay Why the Cayman over the R Offshore series? Bait Capacity is KING! Agreed!
@ultimatejay
@ultimatejay 3 года назад
Chasing Pelagics - the bait tank in the Ranger was small and I liked the layout of the Cayman much better. I also hate the latches in the Ranger were you have to turn two handles and then open. The Cayman has snap latches you can open with one finger. I also couldn’t see the 30,000 price increases cost for the Ranger. I do think however the fit and finish of the Ranger is better but not for 30,000

Parkers are good boats.. but really.. IMHO the Skipjack boats have been more popular and very desirable as a used boat for much longer.. Not sure how many they made , every used one gets snatched up...but I think they look like heavier made hulls then the Parkers..and I was told ride much better..I remember every one had a sea swirl here as well..that was the popular boat 10 years ago untill The dealer in Vista stopped selling them...
@ChasingPelagics

ha yup! Skipjack's crushed it in the 90s, Sea Swirl Striper walkarounds and CC's crushed the 2000's and now the Parkers have taken over. Parker also knows people on the west coast will pay 30% more for their boat than people will pay on the east coast. So that's why you're seeing Parker target the west coast. There's a whole lot more boat manufacturers in the east, which means more competition. On the west coast boats are crazy over priced. So if these west coast people are stupid enough to pay 200k for a Sea Sport then they're dumb enough to pay 180k for a Parker that they can't get in lets say, Florida where people only want to pay 140k. Where more fishing is done than anywhere else in the country. Way more affordable fishing boats on the East coast than on the west coast. And that's why you're seeing Parkers in California cuz Parker ain't stupid.

A lot of subjective descriptions you make and without knowing what other boat you are comparing to, it's hard to say if whether you're on point or not. however the comment you make about parkers having a nice ride is just plain wrong. at least for the pilot house versions. parker pilothouses are pushed way up on the bow and from an engineering standpoint, it simply can not have a "nice ride" even when compared to it's own sister ships the wacc's (which have the helm more mid ship). the pilot house versions trade ride quality for deck space.
@ChasingPelagics
@ChasingPelagics 3 года назад
Every boat is going to have its trade offs. There's a couple tricks to make the pilothouses ride better, permatrims, outboard hole placement and proper trim tab use can make quite a difference in ride. At the end of the day the WAC still has the same hull. Most people run a large bait tank on the deck also which offsets the weight of the forward cabin, but yes that doesnt change the helm location. The real ride on any hull comes from the dead rise angle, and the trade off is always fuel economy. There truly is no perfect boat lol.

I know this was from a year ago, but I back up pelagic here. I have a 2120 and it rode pretty rough. Got a different prop than what came with the suzuki when I bought her, as well as move the batteries up into the bow, below the anchor locker hatch. Also, in the older boats you can drop anchor from in the house! You just need to add a cleat the the inside of the house, in line with the anchor locker and double back your rope!

Absolutely NO reason for Parker to be using wood in the transom, stringers, and backing plates. I've seen plenty of times where marine grade p!ywood rotted out. Personally I wouldn't buy a boat with wood in it. Even encased in resin - its going to eventually rot and sooner than the owner would prefer.

It’s a weight thing. I live in North Carolina and it’s not weird at all to see 5-10 boats from the late 80s early 90s on Craigslist to be repowered. The hulls seem to pretty regularly outlast the motors/electronics other components. IMO buying a reputation is worth it with a boat company. It’s not weird for some full composite boats to have structural issues/ delamination.
