When I began diving into Ready or Not’s lore I did not expect to come across what we’ll be discussing today. After establishing the overall world of Ready or Not in the prior episode (go check that out if you haven’t), I felt as if I had a pretty good idea of what to expect in further missions. I. Was. Wrong. This mission has so many layers that it would make your greenest ogre blush. Despite the fact that there are only two hostiles on this map and an overabundance of traps I was able to finally clear out the map and take a look at everything and my god do we have a VERY juicy episode today. Welcome to the Ready or Not Lore series where in today’s episode we will be discussing the mission “A Lethal Obsession”.

I reckon Gerard understood, on some level, that he was too far gone to stop ‘them’, and hoped that in getting the player to raid his home he would be able to pass off his findings in a way that wouldn’t draw suspicion.

He wanted to create sensation and get on mainstream media so he could create a "cult" or at least thats what the media would call it. but some would understand his real worries trough the info slop the media creates after something like this. He hopes judge will spread his findings and his story to the public, so even if they tried to completely erase him somebody he thinks has the means will not let that happen. especially somebody who might have the same questions and worries about this as he does.

10:31 Judge's full name is David Beaumont, which was revealed in VOID's Ready or Not Development briefing no. 63. Not much is known about his private life before he received SWAT training and became D Platoon's leader. At one point in his service, he worked with King, Swan, Prescott, Eli, and 4 other SWAT officers (whose names vary between each playthrough). He is also connected to the Gamma One experiment, which probably involved Gerard Scott, the main suspect in A Lethal Obsession, and Elaine Raskin, a former USIA agent and the leader of the Carriers of the Vine cult. Judge is perceived as one of, if not the best police officer in Los Suenos. Judge is also considered to lack emotion or stress, as he does not suffer as much as his platoon members in Commander Mode. The cause of this could either be a result of PTSD or from his involvement with the Gamma One experiment. Judge is capable of applying lethal, less lethal, and non-lethal means to secure suspects, bringing order to chaos, and rescuing civilians in every mission he and his team are tasked with. He also has access to a wide range of weapons and equipment, courtesy of the LSPD, and each is suited for his or the team's needs depending on each scenario.

Most Swat teams require their members to have some form of military experience. So it's very likely that Judge and the rest of D Platoon are ex-military.

Judge is also hinted to maybe know about the MLO, as there's a package from "CARCOSA" addressed to him in the station. I do believe the "One Who Sits Alone" is Francisco Leguna. There's a lot of hints that he's got a large reach, and may be the leader of the Mariposa Lily Organization.

5:41 is crazy. I mean most of the time I’d just raid this house take out the two crackheads and call it a successful op. I’ve played this map thousands of times and not once did I consider taking a look around after the gunfire fell silent. One little cellphone on a table that I’ve never noticed is filled with so much information and rich lore. Hearing this psychotic man talk about specific characters in the swat team is so cool, especially cause I like playing as judge. Hearing judges name being spoken by a complete nutjob just immersed me so much.

Seems to emulate the crazy people that think they need to "take it to" the government because someone they don't like is in office other than a couple of crack heads. The traps, the way they mutter, these are the exact people that say if the ATF came to where they lived they'd have trip wires set up n shit for them.

Well uh, using police alphabet, Adam always comes first. The next update is confirmed to be called Boy, which aligns with the police alphabet too. Don't think this is related to Eve.

I think Judge is intended to be the game’s protagonist as he is the default player character, although you can change your character. I think developers chose this name for him as this is the role the player takes as an officer in Ready or Not.

To take things into a deeper context in the game, I think this also implies the absolute brokenness and ineffectiveness of the whole legal system in Los Sueños. The process of administrating justice in a tactical situation doesn't really matter so much as the guy wielding the biggest gun in the room.

14:10 The picture of the destroyed building looks like the FBI Building from the Oklahoma City Bombing. Pretty appropriate for Gerard to put something up like that since he's a mixture of Ted Kaczynski and Timothy McVeigh. The latter being the culprit behind the bombing in 1995 as a response to the Waco Siege, as McVeigh was passionately anti-government and witnessed the siege.

Judge might be the equivalent to Lead from SWAT 4 aka our main character as his name would be whatever we choose. SWAT 4 does give us more knowledge thoe as Lead's nickname is 'boss', badge number is 3187, years of service is 13-15 and he is appearntly has a cold business like professional manner here is his bio ''A recent transfer from Los Angeles, the Sergeant is cool under fire and always business-like. With a new element to command, he will have to gain the respect of his squad while on the job.'' It might be that Girard wanted to specificially show us the player aka main character and odly enough he talks about being the same as our SWAT team and he has a similar name as one of the red team members in SWAT 4 Anthony Girard thoe his name is Gerard Scott.

I really like that thought. Not just because it implements one of my all time favourite games and one of the biggest, well known games in the subfranchise but also because it actully links Judge and Gerard plausibly together. It explains Gerards history, how Judge and Gerard met/where they know eachother from and how Gerard knows Judges skills.

Someone else may have mentioned this, but when I managed to get Gerard to surrender, he dropped a juicy line that has me *very* interested in Judge's backstory when I cuffed him: "You HAVE to see! After what they did to you..." Which leads me to the exact same question as Shayne. Who the hell is Judge? What the hell happened to Judge?

Pretty sure Judge is apart of Gamma one. Hes an attempt to make incorruptible police officers and might be a sleeper agent. Hes a puppet just like Gerard and Gerard is trying to make him see that. Though I may be very wrong

12:27 For the Latin in this and future videos, I highly recommend using Whitaker words for the translation, as a Latin student, I often find this useful for translation, especially if there is a specific word I can’t remember. Google translate does not translate Latin well at all and often mixes up the words with others that are similar.

Ok I went back and tried doing my own translation of the Latin and it didn't sound much better. For the first bit of latin you showed, the literal translation went "Cut learn foliage hour torch law around" and the second went "destroy costly tev contavas enemy not surrounded/encircle." Some of the words here don't seem to be Latin such as the words novik, front, trev, and contavas however they seem to be connected with words that are similar to those that are about farming, which doesn't seem right. Latin is a very flexible language and words can have multiple meanings based on the sentence it is in. I doubt the Ready or Not team is using literal latin or they're using some random sight to generate the text, making it difficult to translate, however if I had to guess what the text is saying, it probably has to do with a comparison to having to burn/take down an organization. I know this might not be too useful, but I hope it helps.

For those unaware, this raid is based on the real life events of Ruby Ridge during the 80s. While the game is completely justified in the raid, the real life events are considered one of the biggest reasons for distrust in the American government and intelligence agencies. Tl;dr the ATF entrapped a paranoid man disillusioned with the government using illegal firearms, then raided his house for not showing up to a court date they never notified him of. They entered his property where the family dog and the son see the federal agents, they then shoot the dog and the boy and a standoff begins.

I hope that they make that the main storyline in full release, like, judge leaves the swat and starts his own team trying to seed out this corruption and stop the terrorists. It’s good to see a video game trying to tackle with deep seeded corruption, because usually in movies and media, it’s just shallow corruption with like one corrupt politician, even though in real life, it’s never that shallow.

i think also that the part about the cryptologist finding the coded message for ricin on their website i think is a nod to point out that what gerard is seeing - the coded messages etc are actually there and he isnt as crazy as we think he is.

not sure if this has been mentioned but this mission kind of reminded me of Ruby Ridge. the location name “Sullivan’s Slope” follows the alliteration, and there are only 2 armed hostiles in the mission, just as Randy Weaver and his son Samuel were the only two armed during the real life raid. i know this has nothing to do with the lore but i just found it interesting. love the videos and keep up the great work!

@@surgentg3033 Im not sure they are or are even connected much to the greater conspiracy other than maybe all the residents there having been victims of the different orgs, gangs, and just unsavory individuals of LS. Everyone on that mission is a female and, before the cops showing up, was basically just an "unconventional" women's shelter. As far as I know none of the women have any connections like that and are all just women who fled situations where they were being abused and such but had no where else to go. Eventually the woman start making plans to attack men who have a habit of violence against women leading them to attack a man in a parking lot which eventual lead the police to decide to raid the compound in order to arrest the attackers Tbf tho your comments are old, from before 1.0, and might be based on old/missing info

Don’t know if anyone has brought this up yet but this case reminded me a lot of the real life Chris Dorner who went nuts after his attempts to whistleblow on police corruption fell of deaf ears, he also boarded himself into a home in the mountains outside of LA and attacked police officers.

I'm starting to think (and hope) that the team is comprised of a bunch of big time Deus Ex 1 fans cause drip feeding us this lore this way gives discretely as much exposition as DX1 did, and like DX1, if the devs play their cards right, they can combine multiple conspiracy theories of the modern world, make them true in RoN and tie them together in a coherent way. And if doing it all with this subtlety is a setup for a possible ARG, they might have experienced both Payday:TH and 2's ARGs, which the latter was EVEN MORE complex than the first one. All in all, great setup they made. Let's see how far they can go with it.

I just started watching this series and discovered your channel and if your theories hold any merit, we might not only have a connection between the different factions/organizations within the game, but maybe a crazy parallel to the real world. And perhaps some of the characters and such are telling some sort of story within the real world coincidence or not. I love how on this mission there are only two suspects. An average player would do the mission and think "Huh, that's it?", but it forces them to look deeper as to why they were sent here, using the environment to tell that narrative. I think it is a good introduction to the story of Ready or Not!

If judges info is blanked out, but Jerard knows "how he trains" and "what kind of man he is" there's a chance that Judge could have been a USIA operative where he would be doing covert black ops. The police wouldn't have access to these records because they're way above police clearance, unless the bios are written from the perspective of a team member, then it doesn't really make sense that the police wouldn't know about any prior service in a different department/in the military.

Great video! I also noticed multiple top secret and confidential files on the desks in the police station briefing room. You can pretty much only read them if you have a free camera mod but they seem to have some additional information in them. Also the drawing of what looks like a tunnel or pit is there too. Should include it if you make another RoN video!

Your videos about lore are really cool. While I'm in the game i can not pay attention to those details (but the valley of the dolls got me, so i kinda checked it more) so those videos really enhance the experience. Ready Or Not is a police game, yes it is more about SWAT, operations and etc, but still police, so the investigative elements, even if little, really enhance the game in general. Really hope they add more to the game in the future, exposing the aftermath of our actions and arrests. Would be reaaaaaally cool and would create a bg narrative, not really common in multiplayer games.

Late comment but Gerard was a SWAT officer in SWAT 4, he was part of the red team I believe. It probably has nothing to do with it but since this game is a predecesor to SWAT 4 it could be a fun theory 🧐🤔🤔

Great job i just hit 300 hrs on RON and figured id dive into some icebergs and lore vids and damn bro you did not dissapoint. The one thing im wainting on is if void has verified about all the vietnam stuff plaque and mapping stuff. Such a good series i just binged them all in a row😂 and now im going homw to play RON 😅😅

I think Gerard isn’t the bad guy here, dude has been put through the ringer, And in the world we are given, can we really say that the government is the hero in this story? Who knows, maybe with how this story line is going, or at least how it looks like it is going, maybe d team might go rouge, or judge might dig deeper into the whole “all seeing eye” group. It’s obvious that the all seeing eye group wants complete power, and based on the state of the city the game takes place in, they clearly don’t care about what happens to those under them.

This was a map where I felt bad about my tactics afterwards when I learned more. I'm so used to being sent against pedos, child murderers, and human traffickers that I go in blastin' and leaving no survivors in most cases. I guess being gunned down in a raid is better than what "they" may have done to him, and he did want it, but still.
