The most valuable asset of the moon is He3. It can theoretically be used in fusion reactors to regulate the fusion process. He3 is also high in the atmosphere of Saturn, but the moon is much closer. Whoever can recover this form of Helium and return it to earth will introduce a new age of unlimited energy.

Earth's rotation, tides, temperature and many other things rely on it. The moon keeps us in perfect orbit with the sun, could you imagine if we were to get closer or further from it ! @heather1985october When matter is displaced, the mass changes, universal law of physics. Now here scientists experts know all this ... however, over a period of time, as it's imported back to earth, our density will increase, and the moons will decrease. One can argue that the earth moon had been subjected to matter impact, thus an increase in its density, but the scale over impact is minor to what humans would target. We as humans are destructive by nature to everything we touch due to our greed, the corporations I'm referring to of course. Hence, now we have a sudden rush for countries to dominate the moon and lay their claim for minerals. Countries can not claim land rights as an international treaty was signed in the 60's, but they can mine.

To claim it you need to put a human there. In that case it goes by who gets their first and claims it. By that claim process the USA owns the moon. US has already rejected that and said space is a shared resource.
