She did but I feel like Regina said that so the girl would wear it more and Regina could mock the girl more with her friends. It's something I've experienced with mean popular girls when I was in secondary school. They compliment you as a mocking joke. Because they find it funny watching you genuinely think that what you're wearing is pretty.

Sure, it boosts the girls confidence, but if she ever were to find out the real reason, it'd be so embarrassing for her to think that Regina would ever actually like the outfit. The whole "Janice I can't invite you because I think you're a lesbian! Like, a LESBIAN!" just brought me right back to my high school trauma. My whole soccer team hated me cause I got outed. I quit sports and joined the school music groups.

This movie came out in 2004. People didn't text too much back then and kids didn't have cell phones. Gretchen is the only one in their group who has a phone because she's rich. They're talking about middle school which would have been 1999/2000, and cell phones were just coming out and texting wasn't a thing.

I feel like Regina’s really mean, but Janis is no better. She’s driven by her jealousy of what Regina has: popularity, looks, etc This is something I had experienced myself. I’m quite popular at school tho I’m never EVER mean to others girls. But my ex best friend who was not as popular as me would always get jealous of me, and at the moment when I needed her support the most she just didn’t support me publicly (I always supported her even if she was wrong). Now she’s out there having her revenge on me for I don’t even know what by talking to my ex-boyfriend and people who hate me.
