I think investing in really good bra, underwear, and undergarments at our age is KEY. So much of frump is due to having droopy look under your clothes. Also update your shoes and hair. Lastly - clothes MUST be tailored or FIT you properly. Frump is born out of ill-fitting clothes and when you're older you have less wiggle room to pull it off - because baggy clothes + baggy body = frump. Get your undergarments sorted stat!

I love your style, your videos, your encouragement, and your humor! At 65, I’d lost my husband and was caring for my father, who was still stylish at 104. I’d long stopped caring about my appearance. Until my dad politely mentioned it - lol. Then I saw myself in a family photo. I was packing that extra 20 pounds from 2020, and yes, I was wearing a flowered dress I had no business wearing. The 20 pounds have gone, and I’m paying attention to my wardrobe. All I can say is what worked for me was omitting sugar and refined foods - if it came from a factory, I avoid it. It simply makes me feel unwell. Even my sinus issues are almost nonexistent now. I didn’t realize how bad I felt until I felt better. Now I like feeling better. I like looking good. I care again! Nobody is more surprised than I am - lol!

Your Dad is/was 104! That's incredible!! This gives me hope for the future, for my parents and other family members, who are entering mid to late eighties and early nineties. A big part of my fears is that life is over at that point, and their time is rapidly coming to a close (which it could be, but it's nice to know that there is still hope.) Somewhere along the way we can lose our zest for life. Making changes to our diet can definitely help, even for a short while, while we get back on track.

I am so encouraged by your story! I am 57 with a pot belly after 2 pregnancies. I have to do a lot of speaking assignments and l am am self concious. My clothes do not fit right. I am not sure about what colors l should wear. This year, l decided that l will not be frumpy. My daughter recently cut my hair. Looks nice, but l must learn how to style. I do want to look elegant. I cut sugar many years ago and am doing intermittent fasting now for 3 years, but not losing weight as l thought l would. Have to figure my next move. So encouraged, though by your story.

I love the 3 color rule that I learned from you! It just makes everything flow and look so much better. My husband often tells me that I am over dressed because our retired friends dress the same every day in jeans and a half zip polar sweatshirt. I prefer to have a little elevated look and have purchased quality sweaters in cashmere and wool blends NO poly! I also purchased a beautiful wool coat (hence the over dressed comment) but it's warm and classic! LOVE this channel ............ learn so much thank you Frederique!

Thanks for sharing this, I am in the same boat. I live in the US but I am from Italy. I grew up just embracing a proper form, a way of respecting self and others ( fare la bella figura). Somehow, it translate to always being " overdressed" when for me it is just casual elegant comfort on a daily basis and on the proper occasion straight chic. Somehow it has become threatening to others when we are elegant ladies...I have not given in but, admittedly, it makes me feel a bit isolated.

@@cyclamen831I’m sorry you feel isolated, I understand you very well. I’m from South America, and come from a family and a culture that dresses for the occasion. We take care of the way we look; it’s a priority. Living in the US I always seem a tad overdressed compared to others, but I’m generally well put together, and feel good about myself. That’s enough for me 😊. Keep showing up with pride ❤!!

In my 20s, i was 49-50kilos, and during Covid i started putting on weight andd i suspected also having peri-menopause, and after Covid the weight just continue to climb and i am now 61.9kg!!Hearing you encountering all these hormones and how not to give up and stop wearing flowery night gown😅 really cheered me up. and the food part too. With age comes IBS and all sorts of gassy and bloated symptoms. It is so frustrating and demoralising. I am so glad you made this video for me who is over 50 and about to give up this fight.

Hi Frederique! I just want to say I watch you, and I love your content, even though I know and completely understand why you don’t make these kinds of videos anymore. My natural style has always been what I call “effortlessly classy & a little sexy.” I’ve always worn a lot of black, neutral colors, etc., BUT I will say that black women can get away with many things you deem “cheap” or not elegant. The bright colors, and even prints, especially African inspired prints, look amazing on dark skin, so I just wanted to mention that. I’m still watching your content all these years later, and using a lot of your older videos for my upcoming trip to Paris. Thank you so much for your videos!

I ve tried colours lately cause I was always mostly on black and white and I ve noticed that brighter colors suited me more. But its just that I don't feel quite myself on them and in the end I feel good only whit beige, nude, cammel...sometimes Bordeaux..here in Italy people use a lot of color and they are masters in combining and creating perfect looks. But even if i LOVE THEM in others...i feel better the days that Im in classic tones. Love your ideas, you look great and you re funny. Im so happy I found you. !

Bonjour Frédérique, since I watch your videos I have regained confidence in myself. I must say I also lost some weight and feeling thinner at the waist makes a huge difference as I can tuck in now! Yeah! Btw, for me like many, it was the "white " carbs which made me feel bloated and gain weight: no more white bread (being French it's a challenge), white pasta, or white rice either. I feel better and I look better. I always had the wardrobe staples in my closet and your many videos about how to mix and match them have been so helpful ! Each time I wear one of your suggestions, I get compliments 😉, and now it's almost every day because I finally dare to wear pieces I one thought were overdressed. They're not, they're simple and classy, yet modern and they make me feel so good! Thanks again for voicing nicely the truth, and all the hard work to put up these videos. Keep them coming, je ne m'en lasse pas!

You really are my favorite French fashion blogger, you resonate positivity and sisterly vibes . You are high spirited and fun to watch. And what I like most is , that you don’t come a cross as patronizing and condescending. I’ve always had a good figure, but now and in my sixties, my figure is way better then it has ever been , I’m tall , slim with no lumps and bums to bee seen , and that’s , because when in my early phase of menopause , I started to work hard on my body through regular exercise. So , it is possible not only to keep he same figure you had in your twenties , but to have even a better one . Though, I find myself agreeing with you on almost everything, I have to disagree about your stance on the color pink , it is so refreshing , I love it and goes so well with my skin tone . I’m a grandmother of five, but on so many occasions, when I’m with my handsome son , people confuse me with his wife !! I must admit, it is such a moral booster!! The thing is , look after yourself and stay away from granny look and demeanor , and you’d be cool.

Years ago, on my first trip to Europe, I heard a phrase that really stuck with me and has guided my fashion choices ever since; "mutton dressed as lamb" has saved me on more than one occasion from making some truly fashion faux pas. What I want to know is WHERE can I find good quality clothes for my age group that doesn't cost as much as a house payment? It seems all the local stores cater to the under 20 set and anything in my age group (over 60) is relegated to moo-moos and caftans with BIG multi-colored patterns! And I live less than half an hour away from the Mall of America!

For part of my life, I've always had to be look stylish. I'm in the entertainment field. I do think that wearing colors (in solids) brightens you up. Just one piece like a blouse or nice tee. I don't know WHY "mature" women are so afraid of color. It baffles me! The right colors for your skin tones make you look younger. I'm 68 and I look so much better, even without makeup in fuschia, purples, wines, reds, royal blues, even emerald! If I wear too much black, I look tired and if i wear camel, people ask me if I'm ok, LOL! BTW, just my opinion: Camel is for Coats. Period. Great advice, Frederique!. I love "don't give a sh*t"!!!! I do love my statement jewelry! I'll wear a black tee or trtlneck (or navy or grey) with a statement necklace and jeans. My wardrobe has changed so much for the better thanks to watching all your videos - yes, I have watched every single one of them. I no longer shop at stores which cater for mature women but stick to mainstream eg Zara, Witchery, Kookai etc. I used to like Blue Illusion which positions itself as "French" here in Australia and whose customers are 40+. I no longer shop there as the window is always full of brightly coloured clothing in large patterns. All the trousers have elastic waistbands. You might find a fitted tee here and there but overall the clothes are so loose-fitting I do wonder where the "Frenchness" of Blue Illusion comes from.🤣 I don't feel my age and as my husband agrees I certainly don't dress it. I'm entering my 40's, I know is not same as 50+ but definitely not 20 any more. But I like (may I say love?) to wear bright colors, patterns and statement clothes and accesories 😅 Also recently discovered that look stylish and I don't know if say classy or elegant is something that is not indiferent to me. So I try to balance both sides and your channel is pure gold for me, thanks! Almos forgot mention: avoiding sugar, bread and pasta was best decision ever for my health!

I am 47 and I always wear one crazy every day. Bright colors, animal prints, single color looks with crazy shoes etc .I focus on perfect fitting (i alter my clothes myself) and I follow my personal style. People at work say I dress very classy despite the above. 😊 Disclaimer: i was very lucky because my mom was a seamstress and she taught me how to get to know my body, taught me about fabrics, cuts, fits, the importance of undergarments etc

I agree completely. I think that fit and complimentary colors to our skin tone are the key. You'll know what looks best on you when people respond positively to you but can't put their finger on why you're looking so good. Many a good outfit is ruined by bad fit. Learning how to alter should be in every woman's bucket list

I hate the clothes and accessories at those “mature brand” stores. Everything is so long, all tops are tunic-length, all sweaters and jackets cover the butt, etc. I can’t stand that stuff. I’m 62 and wear leather pants, ticked-in shirts and cropped sweaters like everyone else, I don’t want to hide my butt or tummy. And the novelty prints, like with lobsters, anchors or teddy bears on them, never, ever. Just because we’ve turned 50 or 60, it doesn’t mean that we’ve lost all our taste!

I am loving your videos ☺️😍. You are so funny and vibrant. I have definitely had years where I didn't try very hard on my appearance and others when I have put a bit more thought into it. This year I bought a few dresses for summer and hardly wore any shorts. I do not have a single skirt in my wardrobe at the moment. As our lifestyle changes so do our clothes and of course our bodies as well. What you might have loved as a 20 something is most likely not going to be what you love now. Keep experimenting, I recently just bought a pair of wide leg jeans, which I never thought i would do, guess what I'm really enjoying them, in fact I am wearing them right now.

I love your vlogs thankyou I have learnt so much. I love your style and only wish I could wear the same but unfortunately the natural colours e.g camel and ecru look terrible on me so instead I try to do the same but with my neutrals of navy and grey. I have found that since embracing my grey hair my colours I can wear have changed so much.

I have to say many women of color look fabulous in bright colors , maybe not highlighter colors but saturated colors. I'm envious of them as I'm pretty pale. I do agree with you though on other accounts. I had a biology teacher taught some of our parents in a small town who wore early 2000s teen trends with bright colors and a fake tan. She looked terrible!

Frederique... you look gorgeous today. Your hair looks great, and the makeup is spot on, and I love the color of your top with your complexion. I just ordered a new pair of eyeglasses with a black frame that look a lot like yours, I wasn't sure how I would look in them, but you look wonderful. Love your lipstick color too.

Those ugly “drapery couch” patterns don’t look good on the 20 year olds. I look at the way older granny women are still portrayed in print, film and television and cringe. I feel like I am in denial of my age because I say that is not me! Full disclosure I was a punk rocker in the 80s so I like still having that edge. And I am facing 60 in 7 months.

Happy to meet you. I beg you pardon for my English language because I am Italian. In Italy we wear the same dresses at twenty as sixty. For instance I am 58 and I wear black fuseau, red jumpers, many warm wollen leggings and wollen mini dresses or dresses with belts. Many friends of my age wear skinny. We don't change our way of dress, I am not able to walk with heels but I don't like trainers. I heat trainers. I use mocassini and ballerina. I don't like different colours in a dress, but I do red and black, green and pink, pink and black. Important is to have a regolar shape. And a belt.

I can’t understand what got into me, but a few months ago in deep Winter here in Melbourne Australia, I bought online three floral print dresses, as I dreamed of hot Summer days. They were modelled by a slender dark skinned beauty and looked lovely. When they arrived they looked just like you described. I look frumpy/lost in them. Pretty much nothing I can think of to reclaim them. Yes out they have to go.

the secret of wearing prints French chic style is to go for very small prints, and they should be in just 2 colours, or 3 at the most. Spots and stripes are a good example. They always look good and never overdone.
