It’s a tool just like computers, the net. As a former teacher and someone who’s heard the phrase ‘revolutionize’ before, I will wait to see the proof. Much of what we did in the inner city was teach human interaction skills.

I was a teacher for many years and a supervisor of teachers for a few more. I'd say that if you can't see the benefits of AI in education, you have no imagination whatsoever. Every student will have access to a much better education than has ever been available before. And, for that matter, there is nothing sacred about schools or teachers at the head of a classroom. If AI can do a better job, and it probably soon will, why would we not adopt it for education?

Yes! First, students can learn twice as much in half the time. But I would take it even further. Virtual reality means we no longer have to lump students into physical classrooms by locality. We could create learning cohorts without boundaries. If my child liked riding horses for example, she could be in a virtual cohort with fellow equesterians from London, Dallas, and Anchorage. And that cohort could stay together for years even if one or all of the children move to a new city. If done right... we could change everything for the better.

Automated, patient, and repetitious. Great for the academy owner, not so great for those who wish to remain employed as teachers. And they’ll have the teachers train the AI for a year or two, essentially for free, so they can more effectively take over the job. But just imagine the quarterly dividends.

That's not what I was expecting; I was expecting to want to criticize. That's maybe the most positive thing I've heard about AI. The only reason AI has produced the problems that most of us object to is because the minds that created it aren't nearly as evolved as the technology itself, the problem with all technology. Mr. Kahn is more evolved than the technology. I said in reply to someone that I would imagine sometimes where we'd be if the technology creators had worked hand in hand with the best minds/thinkers of our times from the start, and that no doubt it would be somewhere great. Mr. Kahn's creativity and attitude of making some lemonade out of those lemons has made me think there must be others like him, and that we could maybe actually get to somewhere much better.

the only way AI will be welcome is if we have Universal Basic Income. As a teacher, it might work for older students, because young children need feedback from real humans. Teachers using technology is already everywhere.

Evolution is the slow process of making extremely small changes to an existing system. Revolution is replacing the old system with something better. All of these professional teachers and administrators are talking about evolution. The general public knows better... this is a REVOLUTION! For example, my guess is 70% of education will be teacher-free in 5 years.
@tacticalskiffs8134
@tacticalskiffs8134 17 дней назад
That would be nice, but the history of revolutions is not that you get something better, particularly not ideological revolutions. Sure we need something better than the current teachers, but they don't teach any more, because they can't discipline so increasingly schools are just time wasting factories. That was a conscious decision. There are lots of well disciplined school system out there. We had an indian teacher whose dreams were shattered after one semester, she went back to India to take care of her mother in law in a country where they burn brides, that was what she thought was better than trying to teach here. They broke it intentionally, then they will control what your kids hear an believe, and they will alienate them from their parents, as they are already doing.

The human brain still has a long way to go before we can really make the most of AI for learning. A lot of research shows that we learn better when we write things down by hand instead of just typing or listening. AI is definitely a handy tool for learning, but it just can’t take the place of the real deal interactions between teachers and students.
@tacticalskiffs8134
@tacticalskiffs8134 17 дней назад
The people sponsoring this stuff are perfectly happy to disconnect teachers from students, because they will then control what kids know. Schools main purpose was to disconnect kids from parents, and this will concentrate the people who program kids to a much smaller group of people. Think of you school having the reach and moral compass of Tik Tok.

It would be interesting to see AI Machine Or a Computer in each classroom. It would be used if discussion happens and Noone agrees. Student has the right to ask any question to Alexa or Future Siri. These girls will have to explain both parties teacher and student what are their sides wanting to explain. It's just a thought. ❤it would be easier to deal with not needed stress in the classroom when teacher doesn't know ow the answer.

AI is not good for learning something you aren't already aware of. They regularly get things wrong. That won't change until there's a truly intelligent AI. Why not focus on using it for things that it does better than people and resolve problems without the need to violate people's human rights
