I love printer paper for sketching, it has a great texture for line drawings. I don’t shade too much on it. If I’m going to do something more (paint) I’ll switch to arches hot press 90 pound, which is the only art paper I have found with a texture I like. Most are too rough or too smooth, and I can’t draw on thick paper since I like a harder surface.
Glad you found materials that meet your personal preferences! Just remember that printer paper will turn yellow and brittle over time due to the acid in it.
I have used printer paper when I've got nothing else it's not too bad for using biro or normal graphite pencil but next too useless for colour pencil and I did wonder why when I put drawings away and took them out to have a look some months later and there were yellow stains on the paper
It actually doesn’t matter.. If you do your art drawn on acid paper and place it into plastic sheets the drawings actually last forever. All of my work is basically computer paper, every picture has remained crisp white in their plastic sheets.
This might be your one experiential sighting but statistically and factually printed paper will not last- so your one experience is not information that will hold up for the general public over decades. It would be misinformation and generally unethical for a professional artist to sell work on acid containing paper.
@@SkyLizardGirl you’ve lucked out that has worked. But if you sell art that is framed but drawn on paper containing acid it will yellow. I just can’t recommend it at all. Besides office paper is flat with no tooth and really doesn’t work well with graphite compared to a high quality artist paper. I just am not going to ever recommend office paper.
As a custom lab printer for two decades, archival paper was always a business benefit we had for professional photographers. I felt like I should have combed my hair before watching this....
As long as "acid free" or "archival paper" costs the same or less than copy paper... To "preserve" your work these days, I feel like the best way is to digitize it by scanning it as a .png computer file (1200 dpi or greater). Not only does this preserve your work, you can digitally edit it in a non-destructive way! I am of the opinion that most high-end (or alleged high end) products are a Scam. The best tool is the one you have (readily) at hand.
I guarantee you- cost for high end paper has chemically measurable qualities lending credibility to it. And all paper is going to be way less expensive than a scanner or digital technologies that require maintenance/upgrades. Analogue rules. Let me tell you about the digital works I lost because the technologies changed and no one can convert the technologies.😂
