It's a good game, and a hell of a fun one with friends. My only complain with it is that it feels like untouched potential. Like the first planet is beautifully designed and has a unique atmosphere, but the other planets feel like reskinned versions of each other. The terrain is very similar, and resources are not really unique to the planet, and can often be found on other planets. It makes it so that you only set up a few bases to cover all resource needs, which removes the point of visiting all planets. It would be cool if there were unique resources at every planet, or unique terrain. Another thing they could do is add treasures that makes the character stronger, since what you start with you carry until the end of the game. And for the story each planet is the same, charge some purple alien Apple product and repeat. It would be cooler if there were important pieces of the story on each planet, like some broken machine scattered on each planet, or some back story (like the alien facilities in Subnautica). Anyways good game, but it has more potential. I do however feel the devs care for the game, so I hope they improve it as they have done already.
@wysmidnight7929
@wysmidnight7929 2 года назад
to me each planet quite unique tho in term of resources. yep they might have same ore in different planets. but there's different gas in each planet's atmosphere isn't it? since you have to use gas to make higher tier resources. so I think it's kind of unique enough for me tho.
@Fancysand
@Fancysand 2 года назад
I definitely agree. I can gather most of my resources from sylva, and the ones I can't I can trade for. I can obtain all the gasses I need from three planets and thee terrain is similar. Also there's no incentive to explore. Exo caches are marked on your map, same with gateway chambers and, when you have a probe scanner, probes
@harristaft7348
@harristaft7348 2 года назад
I have to disagree with "resources aren't unique to the planet." Each planet has different resources, while also having base resources such as Compound and Astronium. And there is unique terrain. The deeper you go, the more difficult it is to dig, and so you have to use a bigger drill mod. Also, they recently added space snails that you can collect that give you certain benefits. Sorry for the rant, just thought I should get my point out there.

About the resources you mentioned. Every planet has 2 resources that are only found on that olanet and one other for exanple sylva the starting planet shares the resource sphalerite with desolo its moon and shared malachite with calidor and gasses are just thrown in there a bit on organized like how attox has 4 or 5 gasses but is the hardest planet to make a base on i died like 5 times the first 15 min i was there for the first time its a bit complicated but with a bit i geuss practice you will get used to where what resource is and what gas is collected the fastest on wich planet.

Regarding the research menu, the last time I played the game, it was based off of where the items are crafted. The icons on the four buttons correspond to the four printers. There are four places to craft items, the backpack printer, the small printer, the medium printer, and the large printer. For items in the backpack click the first button (it looks like the backpack), for items in the small printer, click the second button (to the right of the backpack), and so on. I hope this was helpful.

The research menu is simple. 4 tabs, for the station they're crafted at. And each row is a group of similar things. I.e solars, batteries, windmills are in the same row, terrain tools in another, etc. Honestly I love the way they have it. Don't get me wrong, I still flip through it all the time but realistically, that's my error.

I remember when this had first released in early access. My friend had told me about it and it seemed like such an awesome concept. I then proceeded to forget it’s existence for a few years but I had a friend who had gotten it on ps4. I eventually bought my own ps4 and got the console version of astroneer as soon as I could and I don’t think I have ever had so much fun playing a game with my friends before then.

When the research menu was first added while I was playing, I found it very confusing and hard to navigate like you do. But once I realized that the 4 different tabs are the 4 crafting tabs. The first tab contains all the items which can be crafted on the player, the second required a small printer. The third needs a medium printer, and the third a large printer. So if I know what I'm looking for even if it's something new I can narrow down where it should be with relative ease.

First binged this one in Beta, and love how the game has progressed. Loved following their dev journey on the System Era RU-vid channel even more. I do wish that the research menu was a little more organized. If you think about how big the item is that you are looking for, you can determine which of the "printer size" tabs you can rule out. But it can still be hard to find things. Also, wish that the new mission objectives would auto complete for those of us that already have all of these things in our bases. Hate having to use resources to complete things that I have already crafted and used over the last few years, especially using the harder to find and interplanetary resources. lol. But Astroneer is still a great game all these years later.

Great video. It included all my recent games too! Subnautica, the long dark and firewatch. I love Astroneer and although the automation feels clunky at times and lacks some key components (converters for example) I’ve found it enjoyable to challenge myself to a big build. I’m nearing 70hrs on the build for a fully automated storage, Chem lab and resource management system. But it’s loads of arms and tables where it could be more efficient if we were able to do more than limit arms to a single resource for example and pop resources onto conveyors to transport them around. It was a fantastic addition to the game though and I look forward to further refinements.

Hello! This should assist in a better understanding of the Printer menu in your Backpack. This also may already be answered by now; not sure since I did not scroll comments first, lol The Printer menu is sorted on the right. Underneath the window that shows your Rate of Bytes per minute being processed, The small blue squares show you what printer size you need to use to print the items on the left. This is the list from left to right: 1st blue square: Backpack Printer. 2nd blue square: Small Printer 3rd blue square: Medium Printer 4th blue square: Large Printer The first Printer on the far left, is your Backpack Printer. This means small things (like small batteries, small generators, small wind turbines, tool augments like the Terrain Analyzer for painting, and tethers) can be printed from your Backpack. The square one step to the right from there is the Small Printer. Things such as a Medium Printer can be printed from the Small Printer. Also, Medium platforms, extenders, rover seat and portable field shelter for saving while exploring the planets. Next over to the right once more, is the Medium Printer. Use the Medium Printer to print the Buggy and the Rover, also Medium platforms and medium generators and the Research Chamber, as well as Chemistry Lab and Large Shredder. The last blue button, is for items you print using the Large Printer. So you can find the Largest items on the Largest Printer at the end. Using the Large Printer, you can print things like, Extra Large (XL) platforms, XL wind turbine and solar array, a permanent shelter (like when you start the game), large rovers, and medium and large shuttles, also landing pads for the shuttles. Every item in the left scrolling menu corresponds to which size Printer you have selected from the blue squares on the right. That left scrolling menu has blue, pink, or gray holograms of what the completed printed item may look like. That's my summary of the Printer menus. 😊

If you are someone how is busy and doesn't have a lot of time to understand extremely complicated mechanics and complex menues and ui of games then this is perfect for you. Having lack of time is the main reason I haven't tried games like satisfactory and no man's sky. But I love astroneer. It can be picked up instantly. The game also doesn't tell you much to do anything, you will make your own goals. Which resource to go for next which item to craft next and that makes it even more fun. If you are still confused what to do or how to get started, get a chemistry lab and try to make nanocrabon alloy.

12:41 So I’ve got very far in Astroneer, and I have to say that automation is very good if you know how to use it. For example, I put my main base on Glaciologist and make a small storage silo factory. 1. The mining drill mined it 2. a robotic arm put it in another platform with a furnace. 3. Once smelted another arm picks it up and puts it on a platform with a small printer. 4. The printer is set to infinitely create storage silos. 5. Lastly a robotic arm picks the finished storage silo that’s still in a box and puts it on, ironically enough, a large storage silo. I got 2 storage silos filled with storage silos and it’s awesome. An automatic hydrazine farm is really good too but I’m not explaining how I did that because it’s even more complicated. Anyway, like I said, I think automation is very good if you know how to use it.

This game is one of the weirdest I’ve played and I feel emotional whenever it comes to mind, I played it in a time where i felt so lonely and depressed and this game to be completely honest amplified those feelings, the game is great in design and content but what should’ve helped me only made me more anxious, so in conclusion it’s a incredible game but I definitely find it quite lonely and definitely not for everyone

12:15 its actually simple, each section is which printer it uses. backpack, small, medium, and large. it also keeps the same item theme in a row. like power generation, power storage, base building, utility, etc.

Research catalogue help First tab - backpack icon: Shows items printed with backpack (small items) Second tab - small printer icon: Shows items printed with small printer (medium items) Third tab - medium printer icon: Shows items printed with medium printer (large items) Fourth tab - large printer icon Shows items printed with large printer (XL items) Fun fact: the dots on a printer's icon correspond to printer's number of resource slots

Great video ! It made me want to go back to the game after not playing it for a while. The only thing missing that you didn't mention is the "story" of the game which isn't really a story but it gives you some objectives which is fun. Also when I finished the "story" for the first time I was amazed and I feel like people should know about it even before playing it.

I've played this game since that open beta state. The research system doesn't have any issues, from what I see, as it groups types of systems inside types of sizes. Also automation is pretty fun and I had no issues, plenty of ways to brute force a sorting + smelting system. Also when they introduced the new model for the gas plant I was kinda bummed, likes that thing

When you talked about going over mountains by just changing the world i immediately thought of how I made a “worlds most dangerous road” and lost my tractor trailers to a ravine bevause the road I made goes down into a ravine I was so sad because the road wasn’t finished and all my power stuff was on those trailers :(

When I first got on it I didn't know about the starter kit thing that can be sent down to the landing pad. So I was just there, on another planet, by myself, with absolutely nothing, not able to go far to get any resources because of my low oxygen. It actually felt pretty cool. But then I finally was able to start things off after sending down the starter stuff. But it gave me an idea for a challenge. To never collect rewards from missions.

The research menu confused me at first, until I realised its separated based on what printer you need to make it. First tab is your backpack printer, next tab is small printer stuff and so on. Other than that I haven't tried automated stuff yet. Ive only just started playing about 5 days ago. Loving it though for some reason. Gives me No Mans Sky vibes but easier to understand. Also I love NMS a crap ton lol

I always enjoy getting new joining players to go start on a different planet and start their own bases. When we need gasses for the first time and someone joins they start off on a gasous planet and get a base going. It lets them build a base the way they want and it gets infrastructure in place for when the home planet sends a shuttle by with supplies.

Hi, you talked about the research thiny being to messy. After one of the updates it finally devided items per printer, that made it easier to find things. Like other games, you can see everything there is to build from the first time you open it, that's alot of information you only use 5% of in the beginning. Using the arrowkeys to go through tho makes it a little bit easier. And I'm not sure but you said that you have to drag everything to the printer to make things, sorry printers autofill with the stuff you have on your backpack or take it from storage as long as it is on the same platform. Get the double level platform that costs 3 iron and you can print alot easier. Great vid, the NoClip one is also great. Good that you guys did not shy away from the loss of Paul. Heavy but it did happen, and is now part of the legacy of Astroneer.

Purchased the game on Christmas in 2016, and can say that everything you mentioned is 100000000% accurate. the multiplayer is how you described it; but I would wager that depending on the people you play with, it can be even more chaos. Personally, I had a group of friends who I also played No Man's Sky with on a regular basis who also enjoyed Astroneer. we ended up colonizing all planets (besides the home one) at once, because we built the recourse infrastructure to launch everyone in quick succession. watching me and 4 buds hop into orbit like a snake was hands down my favorite clip I have ever recorded. this game is absolutely amazing, and I honestly started to play it a lot more after seeing this video for the first time. love the videos mate!

I honestly haven't had a great experience with Astroneer. I too started playing around its' initial release on Steam back in 2016, and I did have a fun time with my friends. But as the updates went on, it felt like the game just became more and more of a grind. The research system, for example, was really frustrating. In the early days of the game, whenever you got a researchable item it would literally pop open like a Kinder Surprise egg revealing some new item or piece of tech inside. I also remember the trade platform was a huge early game boon, allowing you to trade any material in the game for anything else. But as the game progressed, more and more things began to change. First the research system was changed so you got traditional research points, which was fine but the menu was clunky. Then they changed the trade platform so you traded scrap metal for materials, and scrap metal required separate scrap processors to create. But this was offset by the soil centrifuge to let you get basic materials from nothing. And then they changed it so that lithium, which was required for crafting batteries, was basically nonexistent on the starting planet,. Giving how important having a reliable source of electricity in the game is, this essentially forced you to build a rocket in the early game to go to a planet which has it. Survival games generally have 2 phases: phase 1 is when you just spawn in and survival is tough because you don't have good protection or access to good resources yet, and phase 2 is when you're well stocked up on resources and have a good base with all the amenities you need so you can really start exploring the world. It felt like with every update, the distance between phase 1 and 2 for Astroneer kept getting longer, and every time I had no idea what a good strategy for getting to phase 2 was anymore.

The soil centrifuge is probably my least favourite module because it reminds me that that some resources, particularly clay, are just too hard to find in the game by itself without too much exploration. In my current playthrough, for example, I decided to not use the centrifuge to get clay.. I spent hours in the buggy scouring the surface for a single clay deposit.. hours and hours. Ended up having to go with using the centrifuge.

the new galastropod update is one of the best updates they've given to astroneer imo, it was like the wanderer questline all over again but so much more enjoyable. (also the galastropods just make the game so much easier and that is nothing i'm complaining about since i felt like difficulty was never the aim with this game.)

actually automation works EXTREMELY well in this game you just have to understand how the auto arms work that can take some time but its not hard to build a machine that automatically transforms stored soil into scrap so you can get any resources you like

Astroneer was a game I thought looked interesting. I started with the tutorial because I figured, that makes sense if you're not sure how the game works. I got the game via Xbox game pass and maybe I'm just doing it very wrong, but after 30 minutes, I found the controls of picking up the tethers and putting them down, very annoying. I would try to move them and the camera would swing wildly or the tether would swing way away from where I wanted it to be. After spending most of my time just getting a line of tethers down a hill, I died from no oxygen because the tether broke and I didn't get back to my main line in time, and I had to start the whole tether process over. It wasn't relaxing at all for me and I hated it. But with some many saying they love it, I may have to try it again some time. Maybe I wasn't paying proper attention to how the controls work as I was a little distracted at the time. Still when you can't find any bad reviews ;) that must mean I'm the problem. Or maybe this just isn't the game for me. ( I play shooters but I also play games like Journey, gone home and What became of Edith Finch. I play horror games as well. I tend to like crafting with some shooting. I admit, resource management and base building is not the games I tend to like as much, unless it's in a game like Far cry Primal, where it's not strategic so much as just relating to the stories.)
