Uh no. Teams choosing earlier in the draft didn't pick Kobe because they felt he needed years before paying off for them. True fact: Kobe used to practice with the 76ers while he was in high school. John Lucas, the buffoon who was their head coach at the time, said they knew he'd be great but expected it would take time that he and the team couldn't afford. Short sighted.

Respectfully, and I really mean it, I don’t see how this is a matter of privilege? (But I am willing to listen to how and why u saw it that way) I mean he says it in the video, they were looking for a good fit (and the Lakers was no. 2 on their list) and I think that’s a smart way to go about it cause in some cases ur fit in a team could literally either break or make ur career. You can’t really hate someone who’s just looking out for themselves. He didn’t decline Detroit just because he didn’t want to. He was given a opportunity with the Lakers and he took it. And it’s not like he’s taking that opportunity given to him for granted, he works hard and earned the bag he has now.

@@Bambell15 This type of thinking from Austin Reaves honestly only comes from free agents. Once they’ve completed their contracts, they normally have a decision of where to play. But he “chose” to be undrafted. I’ve literally never heard of a man turning down an opportunity to play in the NBA via the draft. Now obviously it worked out for him and I believe all of the perspectives now is literally hindsight being 20/20. In that moment, I don’t believe anyone championed him for this decision, mainly because how rare it was. I said this was a “privileged” decision because name the player that played for the basketball programs of the likes of Wichita State and Oklahoma and takes the route he did. In recent memory it’s unheard of. Now if he played for a powerhouse like Gonzaga, Villanova, Duke, etc. then maybe I could see him having the leverage to decide where he wants to play in the league after choosing to be undrafted. That’s all I’m saying.
