We like him because he represents that part of us that actually believes if we "work hard enough" we can play alongside LeBron on the Lakers... Which isn't true for 99.999% of us.
@@THEIRISHEDITOR2011 ... followed by disappointment. Just focus on getting better day by day. No person achieves solely by desiring the end goal. You must enjoy the process.
He has a very underrated basketball iq. When his on the floor good things happen for L.A. His constantly probing the defence forcing his teammates to move without the ball. Never forces a shot. Great at taking the contact and finishing. The guy is a steal.
Im even more surprised teams didn’t know this. They do their research. He was raised by two parents who were both D1 basketball players. He grew up learning the game to enhance that IQ
You simply don’t see young new players like Austin with his type of fearlessness or willingness to take big shots. Kids got a lot of confidence in himself. Game 4 dropped a very quiet 21 vs. Golden State. Love that kid!!
Na I just watch a lot of bug 12 basketball and just if you look at 4 year guards from that conference they end up being serviceable players. Players like Monte Morris, Javon Carter, buddy hield and there's more but that's just off the top of my head. I'm not saying he would be a stud I'm saying I wasn't surprised he found a rile in the nba.
He said it himself: the Pistons and a few other teams would have drafted him, but he and his agent already had the deal with the Lakers, and they specifically preferred that situation. He told teams, if they drafted him, he would refuse to sign. He and his agent prioritized being in the right situation, especially after being in the wrong place in college, initially. As far as the lack of recruiting out of high school, he said by not playing AAU … it pretty much makes you an unknown quantity. I guess college scouts and coaches only watch the big AAU tournaments, nowadays.
I’m from Arkansas so I feel very special to say I got to see him play in high school during an invitational tournament Crazy to think this man made it all the way to play with Lebron and be a great role in the NBA
you are acting like reeves matters. He doesn't; just another driveby white baller. Everyone seen this move b4. We get one of these jokes every year. and usually about 10 of them in the ncaa, where "Fake-white ballerism" reigns supreme.
LeBron doesn't play with rookies on his team (ask Andrew Wiggins & others et al.), straight that. The fact that he even made the team meant that he was something special. Add to that he got LBJ's trust right outta the gate. Kid's for real, legit.
Thank you for that luka Garza bit. As a Hawkeye fan, that’s a game breaker waiting to happen. Man has an unblockable deft hook shot from both shoulders
Been watching him since he was on the South Bay Lakers in the G-League. I knew that he was gonna be a solid role player but with how he's playing, he's a solid *starter.* A lot of casuals (and lowkey racists) say that he's only getting hyped because he's on the Lakers and is white, yet that cannot be further from the truth. Dude is actually a reliable scorer and defender. Not to mention that he's sneaky athletic and has some handles with the ball. The hype is deserved, especially since he's undrafted and was expected to be a benchwarmer. For those that are skeptical, PLEASE do yourself a favor and watch him play.
I agree he's a really good player a lot better than Alex Caruso but he's a fan favorite because he's a white boy. Point Blank but I like his game and I'm not a white boy
Out of nowhere? Bro, Alex C? Fish, coop, van exel.... lakers fans always get behind our amazing second or even non drafted players. Anyone with heart, gets la support.
The only reason why he has kept this success is because he still plays like he’s on a 10 day contract. Unlike THT who thought he was him after scoring 40 pts in the preseason.
By VORP he'd be 9th in the draft, by Win Shares he's 6th, so not bad for a 2 way deal. The "Too Little" taunt he did on Pat Bev probably solidified his popularity.
Davion Mitchell was one of the best defensive guards and because of his championship with Baylor it raised his stock. Not sure what happened to his minutes compare in his rookie year where he played 27 minutes and averaged 11 points per game.
ngl he reminds me of larry or maybe kobee sometimes, he's just hitting tough shot after tough shot when he is heating up which is really entertaining to watch
Real talk does anyone know why Garza doesnt play? Every time I see him go in for the TWolves I feel like his production is insane. I remember one time I was checking post game stats he had like 7 rebound and 16 points in 14 minutes
His role with Gobert and KAT there is really limited and especially since Reid is a pretty elite back up big. Now with Reid injured, maybe he sees more minutes
He should play more. It's the idiot fans and the idiot fans in the front office that automatically assume all white people can't play defense so he becomes a scapegoat.
The age with Austin Reaves and Davion wasn't the factor that made Davion a top 10 pick and made Austin go undrafted. As you put, Davion Mitchell was the best offensive and defensive player on a national championship team that uprooted one of the best college basketball teams. that's what skyrocketed his stock
Banton has been rlly good, he’s a Toronto native so he’s a fan favourite. If nick nurse played him more he would produce for sure, he played pretty good minutes when Siakam was injured.
He’s got good basketball IQ which is what sets him apart from the rest and he should have been a top 5 pick, no doubt about it, lakers took a chance he would go undrafted and he did, as we say the rest is history
Ya'll remember Chandler Parsons in Houston Rockets? Dude was nowhere near an allstar but played so well for a role player during his time in Houston. Could defend, could score, could play off the ball. He was basically like a swiss army knife that you could insert in multiple teams/situations and can still be very helpful to the team. That's how I view Ausin Reaves as: one of the best role players in the league. Is he currently overpaid? Yes. Will he be an allstar in the future? There is a chance, but most likely no. Stop overhyping the guy. He doesn't need the added pressure
As of right now this seems like one of the most lackluster draft classes in recent years, whereas for example the 2018 draft class seems as good if not better than the 2003 draft.
you are acting like reeves matters. He doesn't; just another driveby white baller. Everyone seen this move b4. We get one of these jokes every year. and usually about 10 of them in the ncaa, where "Fake-white ballerism" reigns supreme.
Its so funny when this dude drags the last vocal in every sentence LMFAO 😂 "He made it to the NBAaaaa" "60 picks went byyyyyyy" what accent is that? Where are u from dude?
When you see him in his high school games, when you see him in his college games, it's obvious he looks like a future pro. He's been the same guy all along. The cream eventually rises to the top.
I don't understand why you wouldn't believe Austin Reaves would turn down the Detroit Pistons at the 42nd pick. The Pistons were only offering a two-way contract, so there was NO benefit whatsoever to be drafted by Detroit. If I could choose between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Detroit Pistons for the same, exact contract, I would choose L.A. every time. Rob Pelinka also told Reaves he would ONLY get the contract if he stopped doing private workouts for other NBA teams. So right off the bat, there were fewer teams considering Austin, because he complied with Pelinka's condition. 🏀💰
This is my first time seeing this guy. I haven't watched basketball since LeBron went to LA. This guy reminds me of a small Larry Bird. Idk something about his shooting
Once again, all those overpaid GM & coaches still don't get it. Sports IQ and work ethic are much more important than the rest when choosing the great player.
Respectfully... He's white.. in the nba playing with 2 hall of famers and holding his own.. hes the minority... underdog with heart and drive... we like that
I think people love him for exactly what you just said he's the underdog who works really hard and is fearless on the court he ain't scared to go against anyone or shoot any shot
it’s funny how the nba is like a show full of recency bias. Nothing bad about austin i love watching him but even though he was cool as a rookie and earlier this season when he played, people act like he’s never been here before
