@@spongeboy1985 nah, as far as I'm concerned, I'll rather buy art smashed by this guy than the guy in the vid....this guy holds more value to me as he enjoys comedy, which is the best art of all.
Well it just considers on who you call an artist, lots of other artists would just say it's shit, all artists are different.(yeah, I get this was a joke)
WELL YOU SEE MY YOUNG MANTIS ART IS BEAUTIFUL IT CAN BE SEEN JUST ABOUT ANYWHERE! and people pay for paintings so that they can be happy! beautiful things makes us happy and such :3 watch kurgesagt's (or in a nutshell) video about it uwu
... first people sell a blank paint for millions n now this? ... what happen to creativity of art and wat about million of artists who spent over 30 hrs to make their art? .. these expensive arts is not even supposed to be expensive.. every art has its own meaning n high value but seriously million $$$???
I completely agree to this. Art used to speak the mind of people and how they thought, how they felt, And now the modern art is becoming more plain with no particular meaning to them. I'm not saying every modern artist is like this thought I'd have to clarify that.
it has meaning, the fact it tried to destroy itself after its been sold has a message saying once art is sold for money it is no longer art and therefore trash. the fact it didn't completely shred itself due to an error makes it one single piece still and can be interpreted differently from different people. moreover this is unique and anyone who knows art knows to not recreate it cause destroying a piece is no longer unique.
Banksy's well-aware of the worth of his work. Him wanting the entire thing to be shredded is a performance-art aspect to make his work worth more. Had it shredded entirely, it would've been worth even more than it already is. So if anything I bet Banksy's biting his nails off at the mishap. If it weren't for the daft and pretentious upper-class, he wouldn't be a name. He's not trolling them, he's entertaining them and he knows it. And he keeps doing it.
Thanks for the interview with an expert appraiser. You know…the ones who said it was worth less than half what it sold for…only to double down saying it may have doubled in value when shred only to turn around and it sells for more than 15x the original price.
The first time he did the art work, was in waterloo in 2002. Its not just that 1 painting of the balloon girl, its the whole story behind the artwork that gives it its price.
Mark Wright well you can use stencils as tools, like you use brushes or your own hands, but the fact is, the media just overhype around works like Banksy's (which POSSIBLY has potential but it's just not exploited to its' fullest resulting into something so, well ... even "minimalistic" can't cover up this one) and therefore manage to sell them at such ridiculously high prices But yeah, mainly, it's the over excitement :/ it's not even a matter if it's pretty or not, because a painting (or any kind of work in fact) doesn't have to be ""pretty"" to be good 🤔🤔
The stunt was genius and executed perfectly. But I'm intrigued who was the person who broke the original banksy piece lol... and the blonde girl with glasses is also iconic for banksy stunt lol
I might not understand modern art (nor the classical art) and i don't get why it is auctioned for so high but what's with all the negative comments?? These people understand art beyond the paintings and they are not forcing you to buy it or anything 😕😕
Right, that the painting was INTENDED to be shredded as a stunt- in my opinion a loose example of guerilla theatre- would increase the value, and increase it again because of the media hype. Art does not always sell because of what it looks like, but because of who made it and the inspiration behind it.
Listen, it’s not a painting. It’s a stencil. You can recreate them at mass. He even showed him shredding a full piece. He didn’t destroy anything, only created something new.
Are you trying to tell me that the experts at Sotheby's did not know the stunt? It came in with a ridiculously thick frame and no one questioned it? What was in side? Please?
The art market is one of the most valuable because art has no inherent value. An artwork is worth whatever the buyer is willing to pay. Most rich people usually buy from whatever artist has a recognisable name or 'brand' that is usually overinflated in price by art 'experts'. It's not for the pure aesthetic alone that most of the rich buy it. It's a safe bet that the Arab prince who bought that Leonardo painting has little or no interest in renaissance art.
I wonder if they would keep on recording if there was a "i changed my mind, give me my money back, the rest of the auctioners may have this thing" kind of situation from the client 😂 i mean, tbh, it's kind of a shame, because (even if ridiculously expensive) that Girl and balloon piece seemed fairly decent before shredding, so I'm kinda puzzled about the fact that the client actually still was willing to buy it🤔🤔
You see it’s funny because her name is Wrong because no one id met has ever talked about this and Banksy wanted to DISTROY the painting not to make it better 😡
They need to remove the frame that is covering the little girls head. Maybe replace it with a clear Plexi glass so people can see the whole picture and the shredder too. Leaving the picture right where it is hanging half way out of coarse!
Omg 333 views. My question is how did that first person with the camera filming it before it shredded. I think that camera man helped Banksy by turning the shredder on and filming it.
I was really confused there for a bit because I thought they meant a different kind of shredded. All I could think was, "a picture of a really muscular girl holding a balloon? that's a really random thing to be worth so much"
personally, I would have sued him for either fraud or theft, and would have asked for pain and suffering recompense as well as loss of the painting itself
its called a museums attempt to save face at losing a million dollar painting. "oh no it's totally worth more now guys! but were not going to sell it."
People are dumb. The reason it increased in value is because HE shredded it. Not some rando. The Artist pranked everyone and everyone wants the piece bc of it.
