South Korea really seems to care about its pregnant residents/babies! This is great for low-income women and women who suffer from mental illness. I'm glad you're in a country that will take good care of you and your mini moons

The way S. Korea supports pregnant women is amazing. The U.S could learn a thing or two (actually a lot of things). The post partum care facility/spa is a fantasic idea . I'm so happy for you and Mr. Moon. ❤

We have Midwives and Health Visitors that come out to your home when the babies a newborn in the UK and it helped me massively! You never realise how many questions you have until the baby is actually here! I hope you have a happy and safe delivery!

In Australia it is free to have a baby. I've never paid doctor or hospital fees to have check ups or give birth in the public system of course not private. However the public system was wonderful and clean and had everything you need and the doctors and nurses were wonderful

Yes!!! I was shocked at all the benefits I got being pregnant here and having my baby. The free diapers and reduced nanny care have been a blessing. Ended up with a c-section and paid $400! Due to COVID I had no one in my “shared” room and everyone was nice and professional. The government just threw money at me!

Literally started crying when you talked about the post partum facilities. Those first few weeks were tough. I would've done anything for a facility like that.

Megan, as a M.O.M. (Mom of multiples) myself 😉 I feel ya with that belly! I made it to 36w (I'm only 5'3) and woah was I dying those last months! The best advice I can give you is rest, rest, rest. I have 5 kids total and raising twins is extremely hard. I'm glad you have so much support there! I'm also a post patrum Doula and I find those post baby hotels to be absolutely amazing! I wish we had them in the US. Lots of luck and easy labor vibes!

I've been living in Korea for almost 10 years (married to a Korean), and had both of my daughters here (2017, 2019). I had them both at a private birthing center, so it was a little pricey, but they're both currently at public daycare and it's great.

When living in Japan I had a “Help Mark” tag to get a seat for my internal disability on the train. I had very similar experiences that unless I had my crutch or was visibility falling some people often wouldn’t offer their seat. Ironically the elderly were the most likely to offer their seats, while young people avoided eye contact until I asked for them to stand. Rarely would someone say no and it usually didn’t go well for them. Elderly passengers would scold them in front of everyone, which honestly was a tad satisfying. Overall most people were very kind. Especially the grandmas and grandpas.

the idea of a postpartum facilities is so amazing, that’d be so helpful to women all around the world. other countries should really invest in those.

The produce thing I haven’t heard of before! We live in Daejeon and the benefits differ by area. Some places like Sejong give new parents a higher amount of money than some areas in Daejeon, etc. because I think the city also allocates funds towards encouraging people to have kids. I really loved having a baby in Korea and free daycare and free meals at daycare is amazing! In the US, daycare is so expensive and on top of that you have to send lunch with them every day!

Make sure you do the breastfeeding classes. When I had my daughter I was able to work with a lactation nurse who helped me with proper techniques and I never had any discomfort or trouble feeding. My sister-in-law, who had no help a few years prior, had pain and sore nipples and was unable to nurse past a couple weeks. May you have a blessed experience every step of the journey. ☺💛

All the services offered are incredible, even the ones that aren't free. My mind was blown by how affordable healthcare is in South Korea. Having had two kids here in the states I vouch for what your sister in law said about the cost. I would give my entire savings to have had time a in post partum facility, what an awesome option. I'll be on the look out for that video.

We get something called Kindergeld(literally child money) here in Germany for every child that is born. Of course the delivery and all doctors visits are covered by insurance as well and stuff like daycare is heavily subsidised and gets cheaper with every child you have. I personally don't want children but I think it's a good thing to support families.

I'm actually glad that you talked about this because I had always wanted to know if they do anything to help with like mental health you know just checking on them I'll making sure she's okay checking on the father making sure they're okay or whatever glad to hear their thinking about the well-being of people that's nice I hope hopefully you know it gets better for also non-pregnant people who might be going through the same situation minus the being pregnant part or yeah being pregnant but not being in a relationship or married. It's nice to hear about good health care and how they do help with finances since America is not that great in terms of mental health Health care Dental care Respect for pregnant people and so on. Dang! I'd heard that the birth giving experience was great in Japan (from some RU-vidrs and the mother of my adorable godson) but I'd never heard anything about Korea! This great info for ppl looking to have babies in Korea! Also its so interesting that they separate the old ppl and pregger lady seats! In Japan they just have a section for old/preggers/physically disabled/help tag. But ppl sit there with no regard for human life- but that's a comment for another day lol

Breastfeeding is one of the hardest things you'll ever do! The first three weeks are the hardest, but if you can stick it out it gets easier! (This timeline could be longer for twins FYI, but it does get easier!)

As a Foreign Service Officer in Korea women (in Foreign Service) and Korean citizens and residents actually received days off work each month for your menstruation. The U.S. should have learned from that years ago.

OK so as someone who works customer service at a power company, the fact that you get a discount on your electricity is actually really cool and makes perfect sense. When I take a high bill call, if it is not heating (it's almost always heating, I'm in Canada), the number of people and the general age of them (elderly, teen, baby) is the next thing that we ask. Everyone's power usage is very individualized, but there are some general trends that we expect to see. - People tend to fuss more about making sure the temperature is perfect for babies and the elderly, more so that if they were living alone, using more power to heat/cool/humidify/dehumidify. - With the addition of another human in general, let alone a baby, there is all the extra laundry, especially if you are using hot water. - As far as teens, the reason we ask that is that teens tend to take long showers. Using kWh, because that is universal, but if 1 person takes a 10 minute shower every day for 30 days, that alone would be around 120kWh on your power bill, so if your teen is taking 20 minute showers, expect that to double. With our rates 120kWh is just under 15$, so if you have 2 teens who like long showers and 2 adults in the house, that is 90$ before tax just in showers alone. The things that we look are temperature control (Including pools and hot tubs), hot water use (including are their any leaking taps, if it is dripping hot water, hour water heater is turning on continuously to keep the water in the tank hot) & major appliances (fridges, freezers, ovens especially, AKA the ones that heat and cool... ). Yes turning off your lights helps, but a single 800 Lumens LED bulb that is on 24 hours a day for 30 days uses around 10 kWh.

It's actually incredibly inconsiderate to decide whether to give a pregnant lady a seat based on how big her bump is. There are so many complications that can make someone unable to stand or engage in physical activity. It can be life or death for the baby💔

wow that is so awesome that Korea is so good to their mothers to be it's so refreshing because here in the US as you know it's not good. Very expensive and insurance companies will only pay for one overnight stay after giving birth unless you have a C-section. I kept taking my prenatal vitamins for at least 6 to 10 months after I had my daughter because I breastfed and my doctor said the vitamins were very beneficial for breastfeeding and I breastfed for almost 2 years. I breastfed for almost 2 years because my doctor said if you breastfeed for two years it gives the baby extra health benefits. Although some women have problems breastfeeding and getting the baby to latch or have pain in the beginning. I personally had no problems. My daughter latched on no problem, never really had pain. She did refuse the bottle though but she was just preferred nursing, she was kinda crazy for it I say that jokingly of course LOL. It was difficult for me to get her to stop nursing even though she was eating food but when she started asking for it by name I said okay we got to stop. She's 21 years old now and I'm so glad I breastfed her and was able to with no problems as I think it really helped with her health as we have allergy asthma autoimmune diseases that run in the family. I thought I'd share my experience because not all women who breastfeed have problems it was wonderful in my opinion. Not to mention it helps you lose weight fast even after having a c-section and not being able to exercise.
