Don't get me wrong , I love everything about the Ojukwu Biafra with emphasis to the 'Ojukwu version of Biafra' and desired that that Biafra come to pass. I also love a whole lot about the personality of the man MNK. The truth must be told however that there is a lot wrong with an expansionist version of Biafra being peddled today. If you want to sell a Union , sell it as a union with every group well and equally endorsed and respected , not when you promote and project one group as principal and others as only sub units or offering a union as a collateral for expansionism. If you are ukwuani , Efik ,yoruba etc , the identity of that heritage alone should afford you your first dignity wherever you go without confusion as to who you are. The second matter excuse my lengthy write up is as to our Benin origins or affinities at the very least. Lets react and contribute , but I start with this . Many of our words are Benin in origin. 'Isafe' is from the Esan word 'Isahan' 'key' , 'kato' or 'to' is from the Esan word 'ghato' for 'prolong' you here the Esan say 'Oba ghato kpere' 'oghare' is derived from esan 'oghale' sharp objects or knife 'mgbakara' is from the esan 'ugbanaka' ladder 'ekwo/akwo' from the esan 'ekhu/akhu' and many others like 'ughegbe' etc. I believe these do validate our Benin origins . This is my own first take and contribution however.

@luckyvincent5599 My own position is that we do have other affiliations like Benin , urhobo-itsoko and igalla affiliations and not only 'ugbo' affiliations. Ugbo being what igbos were first referenced as before the usage of Eboe , Igbo or Ibo about six centuries away. That is why you call palm oil 'ofe nde ugbo' ,'the staple soup of the ugbos'. Further have you asked the question why a lot of our words are Esan/Benin in origin or why there ever was ever the claim of the Benin origin. It suggests to me that we are not ethnic igbos but only relatives of the igbos as we are to these other groups. Dissect the Itsekiri dialect and you are looking at close to 75 percent Yoruba words , but they are not Yorubas. They are from a different clan in ancestry mixed with a dominant Yoruba group. Yes we have a dominative 'ugbo' affiliation but that is not all about the ukwuani heritage.

The present Oni of Ife has acknowledged the Igbos were there neighbours in Ile Ife before they migrated. There are people of Igbo origin indigenous to Yorubaland today. Ife, Ugbo, Owo are names in Yorubaland also found in Igboland. You have Ugbo and Owo in Enugu and Ife in Mbaise, Imo State. Human beings are always on the move, never static. The Gikiyus, Luos and Igbos have common ancestry. Half of Igbo in Germany are married to Luo women. There is a similar between in both language and culture. Hence the chemistry. The interviewer also lacks knowledge of history. During the Nigerian Civil War, Ukwuani Elders wrote a formal letter to the Federal Government to remove them from Igbo ethnic group. It is on record. Language is not all over the place, we have everything in common with the ibos, we have nothing in common with Benin people, the urhoboa, or the isekiri . We will keep correcting this misconception and misleading misinformation spread by of course certain members of a mostly egoistic igbo group who don't understand anything about affiliations, heritages or even the basic concepts of history and ethnicity and are the gross confusionists here. The word 'igbo' is only even about 200 years old in usage and never used by say 5 generations of even their own fore fathers. Which of our ukwuani ancestors ever called us igbos ? i ask when their own forefathers did not use the word. Falsely calling relative groups igbos referencing only a 200 year old history is only a brand of egoistic politics called expansionism. The de facto realms in the now southern Nigeria between the 11th and 15 th centuries were the Yarba , the Benin and the Biafran realms. The Yarbar group now known as the Yoruba. The middle realm the Benin realm was in addition the de facto power block of that era. It is crucial to understand this era of expansive Benin dominance as different from the much compressed Benin of today. The Benin empire established towns as 'eko' as far as the Yarbar axis and stretched as far as Onitsha and in fact actually established Onitsha. Onitsha meaning 'ono chie' an occupied area occupied by the then Benin Oba through one of his princes. Yes ukwuani by accounts would have fallen under the Benin block at this era. Please pa Elugbe is not all together incorrect in his oral account of our history and please and please, I am not trying to render the account of Pa Ogwezi wrong or disputed either. Both accounts are valid but referencing different periods as well as accounts of our ukwuani history and helping us to do a proper trace of our history and origins. It explains why we have certain Benin elements in our names and also in our dialect. look at Pa Elugbes account this way, if what you call Ogun state today becomes less than half of it in about 8 centuries.
