More BRD facts: 1. Librams and other materials used for Arcanum enchants are looted within BRD (leg/head enchants) 2. All Dark Iron based BS recipes had to be forged at the Black forge in BRD 3. There is a portrait in front of the coffer room that reveals which Dark Keeper is up so you can loot the Dark Keeper key 4. The dungeon is awesome.

Eric Black 1. You are wrong. I have shown my account history several times on stream. Started playing in early Vanilla. 2. 4 million xp to hit lvl 60. Halfway mark is around level 47. Thats why I said “VIRTUALLY” half the game. 3. People ran BRD all the time; yore experience was either isolated or just blatantly wrong. 4. Making money off RU-vid? Is that a joke? I left a career as a PM to grow this channel. I was making sooooo much more before, but this is my passion and I have loved every minute of this. You need to chill dude.

My favourite dungeons back in vanilla: 5. Maraudon. Not a popular choice for sure, yet it was brimming with character and that sense of adventure, or being part of the world rather than an instance. 4. BRD. Even solo'ing it during the TBC pre-patch was a joy as a Rogue, sneaking around this sprawling maze and unlocking all of its secrets. Fondly remember uploading a video of it to WCM, though most of my memories consist of spending ages to form groups for it and even longer to clear it. 3. Scholomance. Still have vanilla nightmares of old-school Rattlegore absolutely destroying everyone and everything. Always have a soft-spot for the creepier dungeons and the undead-based mobs. Back in the day, it was clear sickening antics went on and exploring that aspect was fascinating. 2. Diremaul. Another explorable dungeon with hidden factors, special encounters, and feeling like part of the world - all with meaty lore and being yet another layered dungeon. 1. Stratholme. This will forever be my favourite vanilla dungeon. Never got that blue skeletal mount, but we did save the lady at the end numerous times (was always a fun challenge). Any time I got a group together for this, loved it, as well as the fact that the quests were related to the Argent Dawn which became my favourite faction of the entire game back in the day. I can totally understand the love for BRD, but Stratholme, Scholo and Naxramas where were I went from being hooked to being an outright addict.

Been saying the exact same thing for years Black rock depths is so huge! 1. Bosses 2. Extra Bosses no longer listed 3. So many quests! 4. The size! 5. The Environment is astonishing, even now! 6. It’s so big, there’s an inn that a band plays at! 7. Raid entrance! 8. The boss fights themselves! 9. The materials and the professions vendor 10. The brew fest boss fight scenario happens within the inn in this dungeon That’s 10 things! So far, I haven’t seen a dung top this! It’s amazing, I like to get on my max level characters and explore for hours!

Also; it was not forgiving, if the tank made a bad pull it's a wipe. mobs at low health used to run away from you to get help and because the instance was dense with mobs in most locations this often meant paying attention and CC'ing mobs at low health.
@viciouswindstalkers
@viciouswindstalkers 5 лет назад
Oh, those patrols! You either had to move the fight to an adjacent hallway or be really pro and down every mob before a pat joined the fight, potentially pulling another, nearby group. Not to mention the low-health mobs fleeing to find assistance. You really had to keep a tight fight, total lockdown. BRD was so good.

Bis quests items and rewards. What instances to run while leveling. What attunment chain quests to search while approaching lvl 60 like the onyxia or MC ones. What to do AFTER reaching 60. @8:00 That's what I miss the most about classic WoW. Content remained relevant for a long time. Now the game just feels smaller. It doesn't matter how many raids they make, only the last released one is relevant. I raided from Classic until Cata and I personally rarely felt much joy even when I got BIS gear, I knew it was all getting replaced by normal difficulty gear as soon as the next raid came out.

@Tips Out .... few more things you forgot to mention in your list of BRD facts... 1. BRD is the only area where you actually can interact and BENEFIT from being in Ghost Form. 2. You can learn the Dark Iron Smelting ONLY in BRD while in Ghost Form from one of the ghosts in catacombs. 3. BRD is a source of many Attunment quests for old school raids with many crossreferencing quests to achieve these goals. Im sure there are more but last I played Wow? was many many many years ago. Good old times.

In Live, BRD exists in its entirety, but the Dungeon Finder only gives you the first 3rd and last 3rd of the instance - there's a big chunk in the middle that's missing. What's worse, that chunk that's missing has quests in it, that you get at the start of the instance. So you get the quests and your group will kill the final boss for the Dungeon Finder run and then leave.

Absolutely loved this video! I was never a real instance runner in Vanilla WoW, mostly getting into it after BC and then going back to the older dungeons for the sense of adventure. This was before the loot system had become so homogenized that gear wasn't even worth carrying. Yes, any loot you found in vanilla was arguably rendered obsolete with the first quest rewards in BC. However, the final bit of the vid touched on the very thing that made instance running special: the sense of accomplishment. BRD was more than massive, it was GARGANTUAN! I recall several groups spending four hours traipsing through the halls and only making it half-way before the bags filled up, or a member of the party had to depart. But after all the traps, the fights, the bosses, and the stories, when you finally conquered Emperor Thaurissan, at the ultimate end of the Blackrock Depths, I felt like I had truly accomplished something grand. It was truly the end of an epic, world-altering adventure. Blackrock Depths truly is the greatest MMO dungeon of all time.

As an old vanilla WoW player, I feel like there's a bit of exageration in this video, with how you keep saying it's genius, un-paralleled and the best ever across all MMORPGs. As someone who was trained into the arcane arts of level-design, I also applaud the way John Staats made this dungeon to have a bit of everything to make it really look like a city with its tavern, factory, dormitories (though a bit small) and ... I guess celebration hall (the Elysium?). I'll admit, I completely forgot that the doors at the beginning had to be unlocked with the shadowforge key. That's one big blast from the past. My personal best memory of BRD was to solo run and swim in lava to the forge near MC's entrance to smelt dark iron ores. That was like going on a commando mission, having to go in fully prepared with food to regen on the very small rocks in the middle of the lava river and healthstones to use while swimming. :3 But I mean come on, the boss tactics we get in bosses today are far superior to what we had back then, and art-wise, Blizzard goes further and further as time passes. Although, yes, BRD is un-paralleled in size. For now. Sadly, as much as I *LOVE* the ability to choose what path we take (going to the prison, the circle, Icendius or the Grim Guzzler), it just doesn't work with the way the game operates now with LFG and dungeon objectives. People in LFG will almost always want to go for the fastest way to finish the dungeon objectives. Though Blizzard have made some changes to that to give incentive to clean more of the dungeon... The obvious thinking there is that this kind of dungeon can only work in a Mythic only setting, with people who are here for a challenge. Guess what? 8.2 will add Mechagon, what Blizzard refers to as a mega-dungeon, which should be about as big as BRD (in theory) with 8 bosses, and it will be Mythic only. I'm actually curious to see how BRD will hold up in the Classic WoW servers, when the players will go in with the experiences acquired from today's WoW. Truth is, there's no mysteries to uncover for most of us, anymore. Will BRD still be a dungeon that takes so long to complete?

I know it'd feel far more rewarding to spend 2-3 hours on a dungeon crawl, emerging from the depths of some harrowing & complex adventure through a daunting labyrinth with outstanding loot & crafting mats; than to blitz some random island, senselessly carpeted with mobs for me to farm like some cheap county fair kiosk. There is a place for quick, linear, deliberate & intense dungeons. Sometimes, it's great to just sprint in & get shit done. On live, I wish that place was found in the form of some world-drop 'widget' that led you to such an instance... a slice of the world map, or truncated version of a dungeon; with all the coordination demands of high M+. Perhaps a feature such as this would free up the devs to return to the philosophy that inspired them to make these old classic dungeons so massive & epic.I sure wish they'd use the instances as a foundation for the story driven content found in the dungeons, & not the dungeons themselves;, as the case is now. All that being said... I don't know how you can get close to BRD. It really is just simply the best.

Blackrock Mountain as a whole was truly one of the greatest things about vanilla WoW. It was a zone in and of itself made up of a hub area and purely instances; can't forget about Blackrock Spire! Also a good one, though the lower part is much more labyrinthine than BRD. I do remember having a bitch of a time doing the Onyxia attunement quest. You know the one, the escort mission. Never really liked the holding cells because of that. BRD always amazed me, though there were a few bits that could get on my nerves. The aforementioned holding cells and the big Moria-style encounter were annoying in my opinion, but the rest was great. It's biggest strength was also its greatest downside: you pretty much had to make a plan with your group as to which route you would take. Going for just the escort quest? Only the lower dark iron part, or were you specifically doing the fastest path to Thaurissan? I didn't have a guild dedicated to any of this stuff back in the day and making a pick-up group for this instance was hell. Same for Lower Blackrock Spire (Upper was no big deal as long as you could find someone with the key; nobody wanted to get the key though). I think my favourite part of BRD was the arena encounter, and the fact that you could go up to the stands after that and behind them to defeat another boss. Super fun!

One could argue there would be no WoW without Everquest. One could also argue there would be no BRD without Old Sebilis. Check it out.

BRD is the best dungeon in WoW yes, but most MMORPGs before WoW did not instance dungeons and therefore made dungeons absolutely massive to be able to incorporate a few different groups doing it at the same time. BRD dungeon design was kind of the standard back then and it's a shame how instancing and linear dungeon design has since become the norm.

I loved this place during Vanilla. Never did a raid for it, but I DID do 9-12 runs. Yes, 9-12 per DAY in this dungeon alone. This included wipes and finding new people when needed. Would I do it again? No. I would not. I rather like quick dungeons that BC/Wrath/+ introduced. In fact... I hate BfA's easily wipeable Heroics, as someone on limited play time. Mythic+ I understand but not Heroics. Ah well.

Imo SM is better purely based on its lore. I do love the huge sprawling dungeons of vanilla tho, sucks that we really haven’t seen anything similar since.

I liked Zul'aman more tho. But Black Rock mountain was an epic or even legendary nexus of dungeons and raids and all the lore and story to run there.

Anyone tired of Blizzard blowing China, and decided to stop supporting them, hit up Kemosabe/Fahlen on VanillaGaming. Can hook you up with some starting gold and gear, etc. Mostly raids/bgs are EU time, but people like myself in the Americas, don't let it discourage you. I'm keyed for Nax, and about to finally experience it! Server has been around almost a decade, and as my 3rd emu, its my favorite for that reason. Cheers.

I spent 8 fucking hours in BRD in the age of yore and STILL didn't manage to finish the fucking thing. Its _huge_ level range and size was a soul sucking test in futility. Seriously, you either spend the first half too over leveled to get any worthwhile experience, or you start out at the right level for the first half, but get fucked over for the last part, where you're not strong enough to finish it. I feel like this fact is almost never addressed in these nostalgia videos.

sounds awesome, but have you played Guild Wars 1 dungeons? some of the hardest and plot richest dungeons ever made. People literally spent thousands of hours playing the same dungeon over and over.

BRD categorically is the best MMO dungeon of all time and I don't even have to watch the video to agree with you. There's no way you can get that statement wrong. Insta-like.

BRD is more of a raid than it is a dungeon, and that's why its the greatest dungeon. I don't like BfA's dungeons because they want you to go fast, sometimes taking things slow and they often exist as dungeons and not real places in the world that Blizzard could simply put into the game if they choose to do so. Thanks for making this video Tips and I really enjoyed it. Keep up the great work and hey, in only a few days we'll be able to say "Classic is releasing later this year" and hopefully play the Alpha long before then.

It's by far one of the most tedious dungeons in the game. Shitloads of routes that don't go anywhere? Check Bosses with such terrible drops groups skipped them completely? Check Lots of backtracking like the tomb raider key treks were good? Check Loot that didn't match the the fact that whilst you were supposed to be able to do it around level 50 almost everyone would only go at max level Check I think in vanilla I completed it possibly twice because people would lose the will to live half way through and drop out. Having so many bosses also meant that lots of people I encountered were only really willing to do a couple of them, this would either result in them causing a fight about it in the group or just kinda ducking out, normally after the bar(especially rogues) It didn't really help that both the MC and Onyxia attunements required you to go back there either and that those were really glorified busy work. I'd go as far as saying every single other dungeon and raid in blackrock mountain is considerably better than the shithole that is blackrock depths.

I was in the lower spire part of this instance the other day, and my healer made us skip almost the entire dungeon (even the boss i needed to complete the quest) because it's "more xp". I whisped him to tell him how stupid that is and he told me, "when you're as seasoned as me, you'll understand." I've been playing BC. Honestly feel bad for him, like why are you even playing this game?

@MrMousiee 4 года назад
@@8jaytee yeah first run will you just need to know the mobs, how to pull them and also the layout of the dungeon and which order to do it in. Once you get that down you can run every boss in a couple hours even if you aren't 60. Wipes obviously slow it down but efficiency comes with time.
