Why Bleach TYBW Is The PERFECT Anime Adaptation. 

"Join my army" "No" "C'mon" "Fuck off" "Please?" "Kys" - Yhwach and Aizen, probably

I have a feeling that when this arc is done, bleach's overall standing in the anime community is going to change quite a bit. We are seeing something truly special here

Speaking of "The Blade is Me", I love how Ichigo's inner world color palette matches the opening with the desaturated colors and pink highlights to distinguish depth and separate the sky from its grey landscape. What's additionally pretty neat is how the water washes over the scene and makes everything desaturated, giving it that feeling where you're sat down to have a really hard talk with someone about what has been recently going on, which is exactly what Ichigo's Quincy does for him. And after all that, the Quincy displays the same sword that Yhwach used to kill Yamamoto, and essentially start the domino effect of the Gotei 13 and even Squad Zero having to train their forces in order to face this massive threat that they should have dealt with a thousand years ago. It's a great way to address the power that resides within Ichigo due to his mother, both the Quincy and the Hollow (with how the Quincy admits that he's been suppressing the inherent power that Ichigo attained from his parents, which included the Hollow White), especially with what the Quincy does for Ichigo after this exchange. After the Quincy slowly fades away, with his control over Ichigo's power, Ichigo knows that he will still miss him and reaches out for him in a feeble attempt to retain what the Quincy has done for him all this time, but what the Quincy leaves behind in his stead is the blade, the true Zanpakuto and Ichigo's true power for him to use in order to defeat Yhwach with, which interrupts the desaturated palette that washed over the scene when Ichigo fell into it. And after the Quincy admits that the sword he left behind is the _real_ Zangetsu, it flashes with in front of him and takes up the entire scene, almost like the colors are being replaced by the new opening and that this is the end of the first part of TYBW, and the new start for the Seireitei's fight against the Quincies, where the previously desaturated ocean was washed over with the natural blue that the ocean is known for, implying that this is the way that things are supposed to be without the Quincy suppressing Ichigo's power. I didn't mean to go into so much detail with how they did this one scene, but it was just too good to not talk about. TL;DR: Colors so cool because of contextual symbolism F**K YEAH TYBW HYPEEEEE

Sadakibes funeral was the moment I knew I could trust the adaptation. They cut a large scene out (byakuyas speech), but instead created a scene of such gravity and resonance with the viewer, and only a few words were uttered. Amazing work. If you cut scenes, do it to preserve the tone, that’s what I’ve come to realize.

The original anime needs a remake

Highly agree. However, I have to say that the og bleach anime was perfect for soul society arc at it's time.

For me, this adaptation as part 1 is 9/10. My only small issue is pacing in episode 4 and 8. It's too fast even for this series. And I haven't been warmed up to remixes of OSTs yet. But everything else was awesome. I was pretty skeptical of the Director but I think he has done a good job. Especially the last 2 episodes.

Best anime comeback anime ever

One thing I just love is how much context they give certain scenes better setting up some of the big reveals later this arc. Especially Uryu who's story got shafted in the manga due to Kubo's health at the time. Truly hope the anime keeps this up because I felt as if so much was missing from Uryu in the final arc of the manga.

This anime... the art, soundtrack and colour is what bleach should have been I remember seeing bleach every week when it aired. .. that's how old I am lol and tbh at the time bleach was very different to other anime and was classed as one of the big 3 but saddly with it sudden cancellation many younger people truly missed out on something goo

I binged watched all of bleach during the summer of 2020 so I was extremely hyped for it to return I actually have a nostalgia towards the earlier seasons but the tybw arc has way better quality and it was so intriguing to see how the the animation has improved over the years from the 00’s to early 2010’s to modern day it’s really cool to see with one entire show how anime has changed so much over the decades

The entire cinematography of the Blade is Me Moment was so beautifully done showing the bleakness of Ichigo’s inner world reflecting his emotions in the moment which he figures out who the fake Zangetsu is only for the light blue blade to then represent the ray of hope to which Ichigo finally understands the entire situation and moves forward by accepting that power within him. Love Bleach so much

I agree with the pacing, one of my complaints with the OG Bleach was those slow pacing of episodes which most of the time ruins the tension and suspense of some important scenes especially in the Fake Karakura Town Arc.

11:58 fantastic comparison to the MHA anime. I've seen people complain that the colors just dont fit. Like the sky always being the same copy/paste blue. In bleach, it was literally every color, grey, pink, blue, black, you name it lol

At the 6:52 min mark , looks like a parallel to the ''Protect the soul society'' scene from ep 7 , where Jugo takes the place of Byakuya , and while lchigo was physically suffering in the Garganta , Uryu was mentally suffering in the wold of the living .

I'm really happy that you mentionned that the manga features scenes where nothing is said or explained and it still speak volume to the situation, it's one of my favorite part of Kubo's storytelling, the idea that silence can be deafening at times. The spread of Ichigo's first bankai, the appearance of his Vasto Lorde form, the panel of Yamamoto's bankai, Unohana's devilish smile, etc. These moments are technically silent, both due to the fact it's a manga panel/page so no actual physical sound, obviously, as well as no words or very few written on them but they speak volume and it's sometimes so deafening it's incredible. It's something I've never managed to find in another manga or series and it's easily one of the best part of the manga and seeing it getting translated in the new anime is fantastic. Side note : some of the scenes in the manga (like for exemple Byakuya's bankai's reveal) have a few onomatopoeias/sfx in theme to indicate there's still supposedly sound in the scene. But most of them are either very stylized and sharp or meant to be extra diegetic that it doesn't take away from the concept of deafening silence Kubo displays throughout his story. At least to me.

I hope they'll adapt/fix the ending with something less rushy, Bleach deserves more than that

TBYW has improved a lot the original material, surpassing the manga, not only for its high quality, but for the passion behind it, especially the film direction and Kubo's involvement the project. I think, in this sense, that cut comedy was a perfect choice, to keep the serious dark tone in the first half. Off course, I wasn't expecting changes in the story (coff Byakuya coff), therefore this adaption was perfect. I have just two little issues. Episode 4 had a useless recap, that I hope they'll remove, 3 minutes of time wasted, useful for other additions instead. While, if I enjoyed the flashback of 1000 years ago, this anime-only part have few problems, starting with Yhwach old appearence and his broken power missing.

After this arc, I hope they remake the entire Bleach anime

I don't know how Bleach is gonna look better than it did in core 1 but I'm ready for my brain to try and make sense of reality.

Bro at the end of ep 13 when "The Blade IS me" showed up it was the most hype thing ever.

It’s important to note the title cards with info at the beginning in the middle of the episode have info that could be important like the broken bankai explanation. The chapters are indeed short and it’s important to realize most anime episode typically adapt roughly 20-40 pages so to speak which could be 3-5 chapters. Also they cut out a lot of recap and comedy extras after the episode too. And the character designs are consistent too. And comedy cuts are authorized by Kubo. Also I love how they show Masaki attempt to use Blut Vene but fail which parallels when it worked before on White. Only the first few episodes were inconsistent but they weren’t terrible by any means. It’s a similar adaptation in many ways to Akudama Drive and I brought up that comparison since the same director worked and works on both

This was a great video and as a huge bleach fan (it's my favourite too) I really enjoyed this. Just a slight correction though, when you were talking about why Unohana didn't participate in the war, Genryusai telling Unohana and Isane not to leave was actually in the manga. Everything else was spot on though and I'm also very excited to see what is coming in the future, especially with the confirmed changed ending by Kubo

The genuinely surpassed my expectations. Everything from the color too the motion capture was well beyond what I could get from the manga. It only gets better.

I never thought of the Aranca arc being slow, besides that one fight with the Executioner re using the same animations creating clones. But this was a great video thanks for the upload!

Oh, man. You couldn't have explained it better. I so feel like you. This adaptation is the best of bleach anime so far. I would go as far as advising people to read the manga up to before tybw and then watching this

I don't watch bleach and I'm too lazy to watch anything that has over 100 episodes but... The adaptation looks so good that I want to watch it. And it's clearly getting a lot of praise. So I'm probably gonna just watch this season despite knowing nothing about bleach. That will be interesting

I think the reason the anime is great is because of the distaste I had for the end of the manga and remembering having to watch countless amounts of filler arcs waiting for the main storyline to be animated (so the pacing is ok). I remember strongly feeling like the last arc was rushed, though, especially the way they came out of nowhere with that chapter count down, which changed the pacing of the whole arc for the worst. Even though I loved bleach and watched it since 2005, the series left a bad taste in my mouth. I hope it ends better this time around, and they show a little more, like they are doing for uryu.

Low key uryu is my favorite character in bleach I can't explain why but I just love him and because of him the Quincy are my favorite race in bleach

One thing with The Blade is Me, is that previously, Yhwach has mentioned he hates the rain, and admires the tall skyscrapers of Ichigos inner world, something that was mentioned in his training for the Final Getsuga Tenshou. As soon as 'Zangetsu' reveals he is actually his Quincy powers and in fact Yhwach from 1000 years ago, his inner world in immediatly drowning, and only when he accepts the fact that White is Zangetsu and Yhwach and all his powers as he swims out, he finds his peace and we actually never see his inner world after that. I would assume it means his inner world is the same as the first time we saw in the Substitute Soul Reaper arc.

Seeing some of these panels/scenes like save the soul society or the blade is me in the anime after so much time brought a multitude of emotions that I couldn't contain from a manga reader perspective. Seeing these in the anime done so well and at some points even better, makes me even more excited of what is to come with the cours incoming and how they will make bleach more popular off the adapation to come. All I know is bleach on top 2022, 2023 and 2024.

The pacing has improved significantly imo. In the manga TYBW arc felt rushed and didn't have enough emotion in some places. The anime adaptation just feels more complete.

Considering that Kubo gets to work with people who know what they are doing when it comes to anime and listening to the author of the story, bringing together all these artists created something that is even better than the original product. Im very hyped for added details from Kubo. He added so much by removing enough so it still feels like Bleach. This is how you need to work on the anime. And pretty much anything when it comes to reincarnating the series for the animation or films

I just subcribed. I would love a more in depth video on how the OG anime and manga differ, what that OG anime gets wrong. I say this because I sort of understand (even as someone who watched the anime first and then switched to the manga) but it's hard to explain and put into words. Like for example, in terms of the characters as you said, etc.

Slideshow? No they’re right. It’s a slideshow - if you hold down the right button and let the slides go on without stopping. The animation is just top-notch amazing, coupled with the colour schemes chosen and we get a cinematic masterpiece. As someone who watched the initial anime, I got used to the colour changes very easily - the animators just make the colours work. You nailed everything that makes this new adaptation of Bleach amazing in an interesting, understandable and bite-sized video. Thank you for this!

I agree this has been better than the manga easy 10/10, but I do have one small nitpick. The blade is me is my favorite part of the series and I think they knocked it out of the park, but I would've liked if they were a LITTLE more heavy-handed on flashbacks during the fake zangetsu reveal. They show the kenpachi fight when he references quincies which is good, but there are three critically important foreshadows I wish they explicitly showed, since a lot of fans may not put them together unless they re watch the series. 1 - during the byakuya fight in the anime his reiatsu is black and red when white is control, but it goes back to black and quincy blue when ichigo takes back control. I think thats a really good detail that I wish would've been shown 2 - this is the most important one that I saw almost no anime only viewers put together, but ichigos appearance during the Final getusga tensho. He literally turns into juha with the long black hair, red eyes, and black/blue reiatsu. I think them failing to emphasize juha influence in that is a mistake. That should be explicitly demonstrated 3 - when oetsu says that white is his zanpakuto I would've to specifically see the scene where white says "I am zangetsu" over and over to really nail it home. I generally don't love when shows are too overbearing with this type of stuff since it feels insulting to the viewer, but with a series as long as bleach I think it would've really done so much for newer viewers or old head anime watchers. There are other reveals that needed more flashbacks too, like when we find out isshin is a Shiba I would've liked to see that byakuya line where he remarks like ichigo is like a noble level reiatsu in their battle, or more of the explicit connection made to kaien. There are plenty more reveals that I hope they do better. When we learn ichibeis powers, I would love if they flashback him blocking out juhas name to ichigo, and when he tells renji about his fake bankai they show us his zanpakuto spirit being both a snake and monkey so we realize how strange it is that his old bankai was just a snake. I know this might seem overbearing to some people, but each one of these flashbacks would take about 10 seconds max, and it would blow the minds of plenty of those who are unaware while not really diminishing the experience. Part of this is just due to bleach structure, since tybw ties up a lot of loose ends from SS arc, but they are chronologically so distant, in both Canon and real life. Tybw is my favorite part of bleach, and much of what makes that is the reveals and your realization of their foreshadowing. I watched a ton of reaction youtubers and many of them did not make the insights listed above (which is not their fault), and I want everyone to experience the full depth of it. I know I dropped a fucking essay complaining but this arc was a fucking masterclass and while the pacing scares me a little, all this tells me is that we're getting a shit ton of new content later on so I can't wait.

OG Bleach Arrancar arc was about 2 chapters per episode, which is unbelievable today. Every episode was opened with a recap of pervious several episodes... I don't think I can accept that slow speed anymore.

I went back and caught myself up to start TYBW (I had stopped after Ichigo's fight with Aizen) and I was really happy I did that. For one thing, it allowed me to really enjoy the stuff after the fight with Aizen, it wasn't fantastic, but it was decent I thought. That said, I agree with all of your comments on the anime as someone who didn't read the manga. Mostly the pacing is just a bit too slow. Seeing TYBW by comparison is such a huge contrast in every way, but even though it moves so much faster it's still adding in the moments needed to take a break from all the action and doing them so well.

Man even if tybw was a slide show i wouldve fw it. At least my fav anime is back.

My one complaint about this adaptation is that they cut Mayuri's explanation about how a Bankai cannot be restored

I loved this 1st cour of the TYBW overall, I read the manga when it was still coming out back before 2010 and I loved the last arc there, it felt like a true war, and the anime made an incredible job with getting the atmosphere right for many of the scenes, the soundtrack is just perfect. Though I do have my complaints that are minor but still sucked that some scenes were cut ( yes I know they are not crucial to the story and instead some original canon scenes were added that expanded the lore, so it's alright there), however it would have been great to have those scenes that give some spotlight to already semi-ignored characters. My only serious gripe was Byakuya's defeat scene, I felt it lacked impact when As Nodt attacked him with Senbonzakura, it almost looked like the petals just grazed him lightly; the bugs scenes though, now that was amazing. Still, it's a 9.8/10 for me.

I took 3 attempts to read the manga for blood war, a lot of the emotional moments felt really flat for me and for some reason it was always the soul palace where I gave up, So far, the anime has been amazing, moments like zangetsu's fairwell were really well done, and hit much harder imo. Everything just feels much more fleshed out.

Great video but 1 thing: -Isshin’s quote about Masaki being the Sun was still in the manga, but the dinner scene between them wasn’t there.

While I do agree that the manga is infinitely better than the original anime, I can't help but love it purely because of nostalgia. It was my first real anime that I got into as a kid, and made me absolutely obsessed with series to point where I sold a bunch of my stuff like toys and even my Ps2 just to buy volumes of the manga, which is a decision I'll never regret because this series has been my absolute favorite thing for the past nine years and I'm beyond grateful that my favorite arc of the series is getting the adaptation it deserves, and I think having that original anime elevates this new one for me so much more, like hearing those same voices coming from these characters that I love again after what feels like so long and hearing that orchestral version of On the Precipice of Defeat in the first episode just gave me absolute chills and it's an experience I'll never forget, it was like holy shit my favorite series is back and I couldn't be happier.

honestly the anime isn't all that bad. I genuinely enjoyed it more than 80% of other shonen anime of that time, it did leave a buuunch of stuff out though and thats lame but i guess it is what it is unless they remaster it like dbz kai lol

The only thing that I don't like they took some stuff from the Manga like when ichigo gets a explanation of Renji bankai is broken and usable, also how the twings sternritters abilities and confusion in the animation. Some of this make sense but yet left out, or when urahara brings his kit on huecomo Mundo, and for fan servers Rukia buts during healing pool LOL 😆

I didn't get to read past arrancar arc in the manga but from what I've heard from those that did the anime is amazing and fits the meaning and feeling of the story the same or better than the manga by cutting most of the comedy. Sad we don't get Rukia booty or more buff Kon but that's in the past and thinking about it most of the buff Kon parts mess with the super serious tone of the anime/manga

The first 2 fillers were pretty underwhelming but the last filler arcs (Zanpakuto rebellion and the Gigai arc) were better than many anime's better arcs

I'm sure saying 'perfect' is just clickbait, but here I am adding to engagement so well done. First off: I personally disliked the TYBW in the manga. Mostly because I could almost feel Tite Kubo being pushed along and rushing things by the powers that be at Shonen Jump and that kinda ruined it for me. By the end of the manga run I thought 'if this was how they were going to end it, I would have rathered this stopped at Aizen's defeat'. And I'm one of the only people I know that seems to like the Fullbring arc. Personal beliefs about Bleach out of the way: A 'perfect' adaptation would have the same flaws as the manga version of TYBW. But the anime is just... better. In almost every way, and just like how I could 'feel Tite Kubo being pushed along and rushing' in the manga, here I can feel him having the room to breathe and truly tell the story he wants to tell. I know this came out of me being pedantic about the word 'perfect', but I really appreciate it since writing this up helped me put it all in perspective

I know for me I had low expectations going into it after reading the manga. I just wish they would have fixed a few plot holes. But having watched it for me easily best anime of 2022.

Also, THEY TOOK OUT KON ADDING BUGS TO THE NO-KILL CODE! THAT'S AMONG THE MOST PACIFICIST GLORY EVER EXISTING! AND THEY DID MA BOY DIRTY! And also how the anime handled Shiro since they started fighting made me FINALLY understand the "throwing the computer at the wall" meme. LIKE HOW SHIRO ONLY TOOK FIVE MINUTES TO DEFEAT!!!!!! AND HOW THEY ENGRSHED HIS ORIGINAL NAME! And how he was little more than a walking doll towards the end! But other than that, I thought the first cour *mwah* But I'm not sure about how to feel about how the gave Shiro So Much Chin at the end.

I agree.They animated this part to almost perfection and the tone and colour deserve a 12/10.I almost feel like this is how Bleach was supposed to be always.The varying colours and tones,changing according to the mood of the scene. Studio pierrot almost outdoing themselves.I really think Naruto and Sasuke vs Momoshiki or Kakashi vs Obito would always remain their best work.Definitely better than the manga.Petition for Studio Pierrot to animate Berserk for the 4th time.

I'm just hoping either the manga returns or the anime goes into the Hell arc and continues the story somehow with Tite Kubo's direction.

I think a lot of people misalign how the added quincy war flash back happens in sequence. Yama slashing Ywach after Chojiro bacstabs Ywach isn't "the" final blow much more so its not the final sequence in those flash back. Its more so happens first than the flashbacks showed prior to that episode. In the other flashback sequences Ywach is has now fallen from the top of the corpses, with chojiro remaining at the top of the corpses and now Yama don't have his haori on and is about to resume fighting Ywach. Compare that scene to "Ywach is undamaged standing at the top of the corpses while Chojiro jumps hom from under the corpses then Yama (wearing a haori) activates his zanpakuto and striking down yWach. Which scene fo you think came first.

I'm a new kubologist. And seriously knowing how many hate on the series. And now its EVERYONE'S favorite. So I love seeing the videos,but some sound passive aggressive towards it. So when I see any video it could be 🤯or😤🧐. I know alot of the RU-vidrs do what's still in production. But,when its bleach videos from 2 months ago
