I've been hunting for a video on removing stripped threaded/stuck bolt, all I could find was stripped heads. I appreciate your video!!! I have a motor mount bolt that was factory cross-threaded, it came out 1/2 way and now it just spins. Will not go in or out. Just spins and its stuck, how do I get it out? Should I just cut it off and drill it out? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The ''clamped material'' canNOT compress any more and the ''helix'' of the screw keeps turning -- the nut threads / helix being stronger than the screw... the threads of those that screw fails. This is what shear thread bolt / screw / helix failure looks like in the threads...

Attaching the new brakes, I crossed the bolts. They went in very hard, I thought it was because of new rubber inserts (they came together w/new brakes) I put in holes for those bolts. They stopped ~1/4 in before the end, where they are supposed to be, and started to rotate free both ways (clockwise and counterclockwise), I can't extract them, because they rotate. Can I drive a car with these bolt for a while, since they don't come out before I buy a new knuckle, and actually I don't know how to extract them? Thank you for a good film.

The bolt and or nut you are referencing is not really a '' spare part'' and I would not recommend you ignore it... Simply cut the nut if you can and is a nut you can access or you will have to drill out the center of the ''striped threaded'' screw... If, you can add heat, that may help it gain enough grip to "unwind it".

@@EngineerPEretired Thank you very much, you were so right! I extracted those two bolts yesterday, the picture was: one bolt was broken completely (threaded part was left in the hole of the knuckle, and the cylindrical part was by itself in the caliper), and that is why it was rotating freely, another one totally messed up the thread in the knuckle hole, as well as its own thread, so also rotated free. I ordered new knuckle, both to be on the safe side. God Bless you Sir!

Drill baby... Only stay inside the shank or major part of screw.

I’m having this problem with the bolt that holds the gas tank strap on my 2001 Sierra. It’s a pretty tight spot too which makes this much harder. It just keeps spinning no matter what I do I can’t get it out

I have a question.. If after tightening a bolt the thread gets stripped, is all of the tightening progress made thus far essentially useless?
@EngineerPEretired
@EngineerPEretired 2 года назад
Simple answer, yes; I want you to think of the threads as a screw wedge system, you just lost your wedge and each time you try to get the wedge to work, the wedge is fractured and cannot gain in clamp force.
