@@xoxxobob61Yes, I agree. Of course BG has always been my favorite. I loved GM when he was with Wham and when he went solo, but Personally I believe Culture Club and BG when he also went solo had the best songs and videos. It is heartbreaking that GM passed away. I heard he was such a nice person and very empathetic.
@@d3mist0clesgee12 i adore Boy but GM was silky voice Boy is a 8 GM a 10 !! always some people are better dont mean boy is bad just 2 step behind but still a great artist!
Boy George seems to really be a fearless guy. He doesn't seem to hide anything. Which is kind of refreshing in the day of everything having to have a "spin". He's just himself, and you can't do any better for yourself than that.
@@traceys8065 still more than George Michael. Like Madonna and Whitney Houston. One used the experience of previous performers to push boundaries, the other is just a pop singer.
If you realize how few albums George Michael released, the impact he had becomes even more staggering. He was such a perfectionist. His status would have allowed him to slide into the routine most major artists bad during that era of releasing a new album every 1-2 years, with 4-5 tracks clearly intended to be singles and the rest being filler. George Michael never did that. His albums were quality from the first second to the last. There was no room for "just okay" in the world of George Michael; he demanded perfection. Even if that meant he'd end up releasing only half the number of albums of other artists of his generation. Everything he did was quality.
@@3l3llala13I like Andrew, he's seems a nice lad but he should build a monument to George Michael in his garden, because we all know that George was the talented one in the Wham. George had the voice, the song writing, the look and the charisma. Without George Michael, Andrew wouldn't have the fame and the bank account that he has.
Boy George is fearless because he knows himself. He’s not fake. He has little ego now and he’s not fighting against any fake persona. And he seems like the supreme chat show guest. He always has a fascinating story with humour and personality. He’s a British Musical Treasure!! And a music legend.
Boy George seems like a very nice person, he is probably a good singer too. But for me, George Michael was one of the best singers of the era, maybe even today.
Boy George is a very good singer, but George Michael was an all-time great singer. Not only that, George Michael could play more instruments than we can count on both hands.
Both were great song writers, too. Let's not forget that aspect as well. After all, it's not just all about the music. The lyrics can always mean so much to so many, especially when the lyrics have a very deep and personal meaning to them.
They are both very normal working class fellas. They have been famous for years so know how to deal with it. I actually spoke to a fella who was in a hotel jacuzzi with Weller and they just chatted as normal people do about bad drivers and British weather.
Yeah, a rival in name only. The average person who grew up in the 80s and 90s could probably name about four Boy George songs at most. George Michael, on the other hand.. Come on, it's no contest.
I’m so happy that his mum and dad supported him I guess because he was so different and rebellious back in the day, I thought he must come from an unsupportive if not rejecting family He is so much calmer I guess we all are when we’re older, then, eh
@@RollTideLBC BG had a beautiful voice and GM had a beautiful voice and they both wanted to highlight the singing abilities. So people compared them. Jackson wanted to control the stage and Prince wanted to control the stage. That said, people compared them for those reasons. Sorryyyyyy pale, that's what people do.
It’s hard to compare voices. I think that Prince was a bit more talented than MJ. Maybe because he could play the piano and the guitar. George Michael did have a very soulful voice.
@@THXx1138 You can try to spin it anyway you want but it still doesn't make it true my friend. You're right they were both very popular music artists back in the day. However, Boy George AKA Culture Club wasn't close to being equally popular to George Michael in his solo career or even in his day's with Wham! You might feel both of them were equally as popular yourself, but that's about as far as it goes, period. Culture Club couldn't hold George Michael's mic much less show him up on stage, sorry. Real Talk! Let's keep it a buck here ya dig? 🤔 +++Peace Funk & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Soul My Friend+++ 🤘😜🤘
@@216Numbskull The times that Boy George was referring to, was when he was part of Culture Club and George was part of Wham! Of course they were in different leagues by the time George had gone solo. And Boy George had started to like and respect George Michael by the time he had released his 'Faith' album. Plus, as George has said in the past. Many were catty with each other back in the 80's, as Boy George, Peter Burns, etc, it was how it was back in the 80's and what was foolishly said in those music magazines back in the day. As for claiming that Boy George (or culture Club) was not as popular as George was when he was in Wham!, is laughable. Have you seen their record sales? Wham! sold 30 million records in the 80's. while Culture Club sold 50 million. I think those figures speak for itself. Now matter how much spin you may try to put on it to discredit Boy George in any way.
@@mebeme007 Like I said, I agree that Boy George w/Culture Club & George Michael w/Wham! were both very popular music artists in the 80's. I'll admit I might have jumped the gun a bit by saying Culture Club wasn't as big or popular as Wham! was back in the day at least to the point you made my friend. However, if we wanna get down to the brass taxes in relation to the time, albums & sales between the 2 groups in their music careers, let's do that. Nevertheless let's do that by acknowledging the entire perspective of the situation & not cherry picking only 1 or 2 points of interest, cool? 🤔 True as it may be that Culture Club sold over 50 million LP's in their career. They did it by releasing 6 LP's as a group playing together off & on for over 22 years & still counting. Which is twice the amount of LP's (3) Wham! released together as a Pop Duo group during their short lived 5 year career. Again, don't get it twisted I'm not trying to discredit or take anything away form the successful career Culture Club has had in music. But, let's keep it a buck! Plus for you to say that "many were catty with each other back in the 80's" is an understatement, don't ya think? You're too kind to say the least. I mean what era in time haven't a lot of people in general been "catty"? Many rockstars, movie stars, elite athletes, etc... have always been a little "catty" & egotistical at times. Would you agree when it comes to the King of cat's being "catty" most of the time the title belongs especially to girl's/women & men in the gay community, right? 🤨 At least those have been the 2 biggest culprits from my experience over the years. Many on both sides actually embrace being considered or called "catty" by someone. Just saying... +Peace, Funk & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Soul My Friend+ 🤘😎🤘
It’s a shame that the two Georges never became true mates and you can tell now that GM is gone, there is sadness in BG’s heart and a bit of regret that they let their rivalry and egos get in the way. Perhaps this is why Boy sings GM’s songs at his concerts now as a way to say that he really loves and misses him. And we all do every day.
@@charlesdavis545 I am sure it was two sided, GM did have his diva-ish side from time to time but the main difference was that GM kept it mainly to himself whereas BG had no such filter, especially when it came to the British press. GM also tended to be a bit more withdrawn when it came to his celebrity whereas BG couldn’t help but exude his. All that aside, both men are/were much beloved and respected entertainers and will always remain as such.
Clickbait wasn’t needed. There was 1 million ways to make a title about this. He’s such a gentle soul and it’s an interesting story. Quit making it weird.
@DorisDay-lw4xs Yet, her you are. And ironically accusing BG of supposedly being a nasty piece of work. Some people clearly need to find better hobbies.
Thank you! What a misleading title 🤦♂️ I almost thought it was click-bait. I want to hear about the rivalry, not some cliche story about a kid growing up slightly effeminate in the 20th century 🙄, and some random stuff about Bowie. 👍💯
Yeah kid . . . a moment! ⏲️ To this day, Culture Club plays casinos . . . when his namesake was alive he was playing 🏟️, child! Do you know the difference?! Let me help you 🏀 boy! Go see who sold more 💽, and then come back and apologize immediately! 🤐😤😡🤬
Kind of like Prince and Michael Jackson in the US. They respected each other immensely, but also recognized how different their styles were. Prince was more funk & soul, while MJ was more pop & dance. Prince was spiritual aggressive male passion, while Michael was more storybook gentle boyish love. On top of that, the entire world considers both of them the best at what they do. Too much unwanted and unnecessary pressure. I imagine that it was the same with Boy George Michael. Back in the 80s? Could you just IMAGINE the ridiculous rumours if those two got together? It would probably eclipse whatever collaboration they could have done together. “Our egos wouldn’t allow us to be friends.” That’s a perfectly respectable answer, and one that is easily appreciated. I mean, celestially speaking, I wouldn’t want Jupiter and Saturn to get together, either. Best keep them where they are.
Boy George and George Michael are remarkable singers with wonderful music. I am still so sad George Michael passed away, what an extraordinary voice. Both these singers are nonetheless terrific.
I was a teenager in the 80s and I never thought of Boy George and George Michael being "rivals". Artistically they weren't even similar; not that one was better than the other, but rather they were too different to even be compared. This is news to me.
I so love the song victims by culture club. One of my favourite songs EVER!!! I also really like church of the poison mind, the medal song and hello goodbye. Culture club had so many great songs. Take the time to check these out,and more stuff by culture club. Boy George has done so we'll to turn his life around. Give credit where credit is deserved!!!
@@shiroibasketshoes absolutely, in fact I luxuriate in my occasional forays into caustic wit. I never quite GET there, but the Quest is the thing, isn't it?!
@@shiroibasketshoes I would remind you that enjoying the odd sarcastic quip is not the cast-iron indicator of insecurity your pop psychology blogs tell you it is. Bon voyage!
Just saw Boy George last month, and partway through playing "Church of the Poisoned Mind" he transitioned into Wham's "I'm Your Man." So I certainly think there was always respect there, and clearly still is.
@@stumack9755Yes, he did. When Culture Club got to the U.S there were fans waiting for them at the airport and dressed up like him too. They also won a Grammy as best new artist.
Boy George was ahead of his time! and with respect to Boy George, from my memory growing up in the 80's GM's success came after Culture Club had peaked. between the two, it's a no brainer...George Michael all day! both are great, both are legends
@@kellywilliamson2187 but it's perfectly clear who the better artist is. Can only name 2 songs by Culture Club, everyone can name countless by George Michael.
@kellywilliamson2187 I saw culture club at the spectrum in 1984 and was at the Vet in 85 for Wham and it's not a contest because one was a 'scene' show of aesthetics and one was about the music.
@@rupertbear8274 They had loads more success than "nothing" compared to whomever. Success isn't everything anyway. Artistry and kindness matter a lot in life.
I met George Michael once (unexpectedly) and he was a real, genuine nice guy. We hit it off very well. He was kind of shy, but had a really great sense of humor. I met Boy George once (at an event) and he was really "stand-offish" and condescending. Pretty unpleasant. May have been the venue making the difference, but still, those are my memories.
I have always loved Boy George! He was always fun to watch in his videos etc and I still have all my posters of the Culture Club. I was scared though back in the day that we'd lose him to his drugs issues.. Thank God he worked thru it and looks healthy and still Very Pretty today! 😘😘
Seems Boy George never really became friends with other artists in general. Also, Boy George and George Michael were only “battling it out” in his head. There was really no competition on the charts. George Michael was way more successful.
He does have an amazing voice but his early songs never showed it off. I just happened to see him on a late nite show singing one night. I was floored. Wow.
I liked Culture Club back in the 80s, that's why I was totally let down when I saw them perform live. They played 45 minutes and left the stage, no encores, nothing...
