BRAHMAN CATTLE | Clean, Sustainable, Beef Bred in America
"WHY BRAHMAN" 2020 Documentary by Yanasa Ama Ventures
Members of the Eastern Brahman Breeders Association and American Brahman Breeders Association explain the benefits of Brahman and how Brahman Cattle create cleaner, healthier, and environmentally friendly beef.

This video gets my like! You all care and that's obvious. I am actually a vegetarian, mostly because I don't take any medications and will not consume meat that has had any. They have stretched most farmers also to not treat the animal quite like they would want to. I would pay extra for a good decent farmers product that has lived a life of being loved. As I said you lot clearly love em. These animals are providing us a service so deserve reverence and respect. I would eat that meat! That came out wrong. I'm in the UK so no real chance of anything here like that. The problem comes when a farmer grades an animal on its production and yield. That's focusing on money rather than welfare. Why it's horrible to see cows udders dragging on the ground through artificial swelling. That's the type of farmer that needs to be stop. Most vegetarians just hate the abuse, not the practice of farming. As I said these Brahmin look happy healthy. The natural cross breeding you do is acceptable also. You all seem like moral farmers so you get my thumbs up! The guy said fast efficient clean and organic. Scrub the first two and you would get more customers. Fast and efficient is to compete with the market. Not a moral decision and will end badly.

Really great video. That said if i'm raising a food product I don't want it to have a personality and higher reasoning capabilities, sorry I just can't get behind that logic. For example in chickens there's a major difference between a Cornish Cross and something like a Wyandotte. Cornish Cross is curious but dumb and really only cares about eating and relaxing vs the Wyandotte which can learn "complex" tasks and has other motivations than just eating as well as a larger capacity for familial attachment. Which one would you prefer to butcher for dinner?

You want to calve Brahmans when it's above 40 degrees F. so the calves get up and going, once the calves are a few weeks old they can handle the cold...other than that....if you make sure they have plenty of forage they do fine in cold weather, all that skin actually bunches up and helps insulate them. But yes they are bred for temperate climates. BUT there are Brahman Breeders in Canada, so it can be done.

My comment before this video was removed and posted again was about better and more efficient system of production than just brahma for meat, Here in Colombia the major cattle breed is brahma, but now cattlemen are switching to double purpose cattle and for tropical conditions they are changing to GYR that is an Indicus race like brahma race, they are cebu too, but the gyr is cattle for Milk too, the males are good for meat and the females are good for milk the champions of the GYR are in Brazil, the efficiency is done by cows that produce an average here in colombia of 20 liters per day in grazing conditions no special forages or concentrated food, the incomes of the milk pay the expenses and you get some profit too, plus the profits of the meat, but if you have better pastures, forages, and concentrated food you get champion cows with 50/60/70 liters of milk like in brazil, another good breed is Gyrolando the cross breeding between GYR and Holstein. and now we are using artificial Insemianation with bulls betacasein A2A2, because that´s the future of the milk.

Not well at all. Brahman are bos indicus cattle. All bos indicus are suited for hot climates (southern US and down), northern Australia, Africa and south, southeast Asia. In the northern US, Canada, Europe, and Southern Australia, bos taurus are better suited. Brahman, or other bos indicus species, might work in Canada if crossbred with a bos taurus species, I don’t know. But pure bred Brahman cattle, definitely not. No way. It would be far too cold for them and they would be unhealthy and miserable.

The Brahman is an American breed of zebuine-taurine hybrid beef cattle. It was bred in the United States from 1885 from cattle originating in India, imported at various times from the United Kingdom, from India and from Brazil. These were mainly Gir, Guzerá and Nelore stock, with some Indu-Brasil, Krishna Valley and Ongole. The Brahman has a high tolerance of heat, sunlight and humidity, and good resistance to parasites. It has been exported to many countries, particularly in the tropics; in Australia it is the most numerous breed of cattle. It has been used in the creation of numerous taurine-indicine hybrids, some of which - such as the Brangus and Brahmousin - are established as separate

@cyanabriles

Moonga Mizinga, here in the USA Brahmans are slow maturing, usually not breeding until they are 24 months old....but they seem to breed until they are into their late teens and that makes up for it. Fertility is around 85% here in the USA. Even though Brahmans can tolerate poor conditions when body condition drops so does fertility. US producers typically worm their Brahmans 2 to 4 times a year and I think that helps as well.

By drinking milk also you are doing a sin because the dairy industry is far more exploitative than the meat industry and the dairy industry directly contributes to the meat industry... do some research... ...farm cattle are bred for animal products.... chickens, goats & cows are farm animals.... that's how people use them around the world...🤷‍♂️...

@@ckumar214 Do stick to the topic. When asked to write an essay on a topic cow, you cannot tie the cow on a coconut tree and then write the whole essay on the coconut tree. I was saying that killing the Indian cow was a sin and you are talking about a different topic of drinking milk and then again you are diverting from the topic of "drinking milk" to "dairy industry" and making a foolish unrelated claim that drinking milk is a sin. All human beings drinking milk don't drink Diary industry produced milk. Speaking about MahaBharath the diary industrialization itself is foreign, every Indian house that I know of has had a cow, but if you want to assume that you were implying to speak only about those who drink diary industry produced milk, then you must have made it more specific because that would have given an imaginary leverage to the foolish claim. An intelligent person will claim that establishing a diary industry where the (assumed to be) no longer useful cows are slaughtered is a Sin. The diary farms where the cow is taken care till it's natural death (there are these types in India) are not Sinful in the sense that the cows are not being slaughtered. So if you want to make a point about something "do some research"

If you’re worried about the sustainability factor of beef production, I would firstly recommend trying to reduce the amount you eat!! Red meats is not as healthy as the alternatives included whole plant food, and other animal products! It’s also bad for the environment, and animal abuse if common- so look into where your food comes from and make the best choice for you and your family!!
@YanasaTV
@YanasaTV 4 года назад
The essential micronutrients of meat needed by humans cannot be replicated by plants there are side effects to vegan diets. The microbial life provided by ruminants to our environment are essential to soil and plant health. I agree with the abuse, we only order meat from producers we can observe. The problem with red meat diets is the consumption of young fatty meats... naturally speaking the leaner meats from animals who have lived a longer healthier life is actually very healthy and is packed with essential micronutrients we can’t process from plants efficiently.

Yanasa Ama Ventures I’m not vegan myself, but it’s scientific fact that it’s very possible to be just as healthy on a well planned vegan diet, you’re actually more likely to be healthy since by default you’re cutting out many unhealthy foods- even the world health organization has published many articles about it. And the only specific thing that our bodies need that is extremely difficult for vegans to get without animal products is vitamin b-12, but there are vegan supplements for that. And sustainability is huge for me, and there’s is no denying the that beef industry is huge contributor to the problem- which is why I’ll support business practices that look to reduce their carbon footprint. But there is also no denying that the best way to solves the problem is to just eat less meat in the first place. Please educate yourself before you start spreading misinformation in the internet. This is making me have second thoughts about the credibility of your statements made in the video- bc what sounded like you were educated and trying to be more sustainable, sounds like you just are in it for the business regardless or the environmental implications, or the science behind it.

@@brendanmorin9935 its not a scientific fact, its hipster internet fact, meaning its bullsh1t. Vegans can sustain on replacement nutrition but it isn't equivelent, and there are required suppliments that are artificial. Humans are omnivores, that is the fact.
@brendanmorin9935
@brendanmorin9935 4 года назад
Willy Jimmy the only required supplement is b12, the only reason meat eaters don’t need to supplement for it is because the animals they’re EATING are being supplemented for it😂 and btw animals like Chimpanzees who are our closest relatives, get most their b12 from eating soil and feces🤢 and occasionally some animals products like insects, eggs, and meat. Also idk if you failed like 1st grade science but just because we are omnivores doesn’t mean that our diets should be 50/50 plants and animals. There is so much science behind the idea that the healthiest diet for humans is very high in plants and very low in animals products- one quick example is the blue zones! Also if you actually cared about the planet or your health then you would’ve taken the time to learn that! But clearly you just have an anti vegan agenda bc you’re insecure about your own choices❤️

Six minutes in, all I can think of do none of these people think twice about turning around to slaughter one and eat it? All this ranting and raving, intelligence, emotion, playfulness, etc... then boom now they're dinner? Lol. I'm curious about how wonderful they are because I just like the look of them and any ability they have to help me farm agroforestry. Wish we could do something with grass lands other than eat the animals that eat the grass. It's such a cool thing to graze animals. Especially for those of us who don't eat saturated fat products for health benefits or who just don't want to eat animal products, would be nice if there was another alternative other than just building soil for soil's sake. Seems like for a southern homestead though in a permie context these zebu derived cattle are the bees knees. I learned about them in high school in FFA class (yes I grew up in the country), and I always thought they were the coolest looking cows
@YanasaTV
@YanasaTV 4 года назад
A unique attribute to Brahman is that they are true herd animals (unlike other commercial cattle) they stay together and move together (similar to Bison) so you experience the benefits of high density grazing. I may do a video on this. If you raise cattle... You do need to have a system for herd thinning... preferably before they become old and suffer from problems. We have had many animals that we “tried” to keep around and it turned into a mess... in the end we felt in humane. Naturally there would be predators that take action on weaknesses early on. If you don’t want to process them something we do with our older horses is take them to large cat rescues.... the one here allows you to oversee the... well you know... to make sure it’s humane. I like that concept because I’m removing an animal that is beyond care and comfort while helping another animal in the full circle of life. So much better than immunization and burial.
@TheVigilantStewards
@TheVigilantStewards 4 года назад
@@YanasaTV Ah, that's a really interesting point. Thank you for bringing that to my attention in a polite critical manner to help everyone learn. Also, the herd attribute is awesome for mob grazing I bet!! Do they do well with electric fencing? I can't think of any easy way to introduce a predator and I'd feel bad about killing one myself. Seems like there must a good in between to return them to the soil. What are some natural predators to cows? I know at my grandfather's property in Texas there are coyotes and mountain lions that would eat a goat or maybe a calf... but I would have a hard time imagining something eating a full grown cow... maybe if they're hungry and the cow is weak though. After re-reading, I realized when you said cat rescue you mean like big cats. Maybe if Zebu or brahma is smaller, a coyote would have an easy meal at an old one. I don't know if a coyote would be very beneficial to have near the site, but at least they won't be around during the day. I'm genuinely interested in finding a way to feed my family as healthy as possible off grid and maintain the biggest ecosystem that supports that farm and native diversity as I can. I appreciate the knowledge from your channel! I want to build soil and not get bit by a venomous snake! Or any snake, that'd be great. I actually did really enjoy this video hearing about them. We are definitely not a religious vegan viewpoint that scolds people etc etc, my wife gets MS from saturated fats in oils, eating animal products, and especially dairy. She went whole food plant based 6 years ago - 2 months after diagnosis and has been free ever since. So for her it's a necessity, for me I just feel my best and it makes it easy for us to eat everything - and I want to live a long time. It makes sense to me, if God made us originally in the garden to eat plants and it was the fall of mankind into a lower sinful state that necessitated the eating of animal flesh that plants would be a healthier option. Dr Esselstyn and McDougall seem to be the eldest of the whole food plant based doctors and have the longest stretch of research short of The China Study. Of course, I'm not saying I don't care about animal welfare or stewarding the environment... but I find a lot of people who don't eat animal products fall under the 'vegan' category and have conditioned viewpoints of global warming, carbon, and animal rights. I actually found Ice Age Farmer through your channel which is pretty cool.
@cyanabriles
@cyanabriles 4 года назад
assuming we don't think twice is where you would be wrong.....I have a sustainable farm with humanely treated animals that are loved. It is because of Steaks and Hamburgers that I can make a living. I still think at the end of the day we should care about how our food is raised. So I have a few that will never be on a plate, but just knowing that most of the ones I raise will live a longer life and not be sent to a feed lot means a lot. I don't have all the right answers and I believe with all my heart that vegetarians are very kind people, but so are farmers and ranchers who care about how our food is raised...I don't think impossible burgers full of estrogen are good for us.
