I taught English in Brazil from 1989 to 90 in Sao Paulo. Why Brazil? I started to get interested in Brazil while living in Madrid, Spain where I had a friend from Brazil. I think I wanted to check out the African diaspora there as I am a black American from the US. But besides that, I love to travel and learn languages and about different cultures. I still try to keep up with my Portuguese by reading and listening to it regularly. I was lucky to get back in contact with a Brazilian student I had while I was in Brazil. He was at Michigan State University for a 5-week course for Brazilian English teachers the summer of 2019. His English is excellent as is his Spanish. He got to stay with me for 2 weekends so we had a good time talking and talking and talking. I recently stated a French conversation class with a Haitian who teaches French and Creole in Curitiba Brazil. I definitely hope to get back to Brail though I'm getting old. I really like Brazilians, their music, their friendliness, the weather, the food, so many things. It's just a little smaller than the USA so naturally it has a lot of variety in many things. Finally, I think Kristina did a great job. I don't think it's easy to do this kind of job when one is not a native of the country. She was daring and a go getter. Great for her, hope whatever she went looking for that she finds it. Finally, I love Brazilian Portuguese, there's just something about it that makes me happy.

I come from Philippines (Filipinas) and I went to Brazil in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro last June of 2018! My first reason was because I fell in love with the culture and the people (I dated a Brazilian when I was in Japan), and I fell in love with the music and how they danced! The second reason was the food (Pão de queijo, brigadeiro, churrasco, feijoada and tapioca!). The third reason was because I wanted to experience a parade there that i could afford. So I’m 🏳️‍🌈 lgbt and I heard that São Paulo has one of the biggest pride parades (parada gay) in the world, so that was the one that convinced me to go! I learned Portuguese for 6 months before going from this page and my former date, and the rest i learned in Brazil! São Paulo especially is such an amazing place to party and enjoy life! I ended up dating someone there too! So: why Brazil? Because being there made me feel loved and accepted! The people are so loving, cool and funny while being so incredibly beautiful and sexy for me! I never felt out of place there because of the asian population there (especially the Japanese community) and Brazilians are so open minded and love to hug and kiss and twerk, which I do too! Most asians don’t hug and kiss easily to other people or do twerking, but I am the opposite (you can see why I don’t feel like I belong in Asia). I love the fact that you can be as spontaneous and wild as you want to without being judged. Despite media saying Brazil is dangerous, I felt pretty safe to go explore, take uber and the train there. Didn’t get anything stolen from me. (I felt safer in São Paulo than Rio though.) And the people are so incredibly hot and SEXY there! If I could go back in the future someday (when I have the money and time again), I will because it’s super far away from me. I miss my Brazilian date so much! Hope we meet again! It took me 34 hours of traveling to fly from Filipinas to Brasil! For now, I will have to settle with going to Japan 🇯🇵 because it’s closer plus there are so many Brasileiros there too with comida Brasileira! Muito obrigado por tudo Brasil! I don't speak Portuguese, but speak Spanish. I became obsessed with Brazilian Portuguese because of the show 3% and rewatched the episodes many times. At first, I could only make out some words, but more recently I heard people speaking Portuguese in another show and was SHOCKED... I understood EVERYTHING!! I'm so excited! When did this happen? Now I have to learn to speak it.

As an Italian who never studied Portuguese, for me is a lot easier to understand Brazilian Portuguese rather than European Portuguese. In Brazilian the vowels are widely open (like in italian) and easier to understand while in European variant the vowels are so closed that sometimes I barely hear them.

I study French and could understand this pretty well. Interesting... Also, the Portuguese from Portugal almost sounded like a Russian accent...

I still can’t understand what people are saying after studying for over 7 years now and visiting Brazil 18 times. I need to find a way to learn so I can understand without translating. It prevents me from conversing. I can’t read because many words have multiple meanings and when I translate them into English I don’t know which meaning to use. I study every day and I practice almost every day for 1-3 hours with my girlfriend who only speaks Portuguese.and we’ve been doing it for over 4 years now. I haven’t been able to converse with her because I can’t make out what she’s saying and I have to translate the words that I do make out. I even have to translate the words that I know. Portuguese words don’t mean anything to me yet until I translate them.

I think that this channel idea is amazing but I do recommend a lavelier microphone to free up your hands and get better audio quality. The microphone is saturating and that makes it difficult to enjoy the class.
