Motor1 Senior Editor Jake Holmes finds out if the sport version of Infiniti’s stylish GLA platform-mate, the QX30 Sport, has the driving dynamics to match the excellent looks.

When Infiniti wanted to join the increasingly crowded entry-luxury crossover market, it went shopping for a donor car. Specifically, because the automaker has a technical partnership with Mercedes-Benz, Infiniti co-opted the GLA-Class small crossover, re-engineered it from top to bottom, and launched it last year as the QX30.
You can’t necessarily tell from the outside that the Infiniti QX30 started life as a Mercedes, what with its rippling sheetmetal and neat Infiniti design cues. Under the metal, most of the oily bits come from the ‘Benz category, as do many of the interior switches and dials. But Infiniti took great pains to ensure its QX30 wasn’t merely a carbon copy of the GLA-Class. It stands alone as a stylish, fun-to-drive crossover for shoppers ready to graduate from mainstream brands to a luxury marque.
Find out how well the QX30 manages that task in our latest Why Buy?

I bought the AWD Premium in Australia and haven't looked back since. I was looking at the GLA but couldn't justify spending the extra $20K for a badge.

I’m enjoying my ‘17 QX30 S pretty quick when it needs to be. My center screen on the cluster looks much better than the one shown. That’s weird.

In the UK, you can buy this with a 1.5dCi from Renault! Believe it or not, the engine has great punchy torque and I am currently getting around 56 mpg. (Honest!). I've only had it a month but I REALLY like it. Given it's made by Nissan, it's a premium hatchback but with none of the predictable unreliability of German rivals.

That's funny! I thinking of buying this(in the US) but I'm concerned about the small 2.0t engine, and you telling me that the engine you have is even smaller? I wish the Infinity made this with the 3.7L engine, what I currently have, I would not hesitate for a second because, appearance wise, this thing is stunning! BTW, do you still like it?

@@theImpalerman My 2.0ltr Turbo is so solid on the road and quick enough to make driving on winding roads more fun than I ever had before. In Canadian snow it is a joy to drive. A quiet smooth acceleration response and terrific brakes means that whatever cons the reviewers can find, they all say the same thing. They loved driving it. Three fully automatic seat settings on both driver and passenger seats was one selling point for us, then the salesman showed us the auto parking feature both longways and sideways and my wife was sold. I wanted to walk away from it when told a powered tailgate was not available but we are pleased I was persuaded that manual operation was quicker. Six year warranty - I doubt if you'll need it but the wife feels good.

Seat was too too low for smaller drivers. I liked it. My wife couldn’t get the back seat high enough to see comfortably over the dashboard. Loved it in the dark gray color. Bought a Ford Fusion Platinum. The QX30 MSRP was $44,000. Fusion Platinum was in the 40,000 range. Love it, but would have purchased this one. Don’t understand the seat height to dashboard configuration. Look at the video. Picture a small driver peering over the dash. My wife is 4 ft 10.

Am looking into buying this car, now in 2023. Would you still recommend it as a used car? To have an idea on the back seat space, how tall are you?

I just bought mine two weeks ago. I have an AWD premium package version. Great car. Quick to zoom through traffic. Super comfortable ride and great on gas. Had a GLA before this and the finishes in here are much nicer. So is the engine. The fine tuning Infiniti did made the engine shift smoother. No clue how they did it but it’s incredible.

Looks and segment aside, do you find this more fun to drive than say a CX 5 or Nissan Juke even? Thanks
@jakeholmes1760
@jakeholmes1760 7 лет назад
It's quicker and definitely a bit sportier than those models. The Juke is small but fun, the CX-5 is much larger but still a ton of fun to drive.

Can you fit child car seats easily
@exclusive605
@exclusive605 4 года назад
Not really, and I say that from experience I got this as a loaner and the car is kinda fun to drive but it is tight! I put my kids car seat behind the passenger and then I couldn't fit upfront and I'm only 6'. It pretty much renders the front passenger seat useless for anyone over 5'5". The stroller takes up the entire trunk space...this might be a good option for booster seat kids and for shorter people overall

Nice review! Sat in one here in America and it felt so cramped compared to my Kia Optima...I'm only 5'8"!

shopwithaaron why would a compact hatchback be as big as a basic midsize family sedan
@shopwithaaron

From the driver's seat I could barely find space for my legs or arms...hardly the safest way to control the vehicle. Rear space was not part of my comment.

Correction. Mean’t my wife couldn’t get the front driver seat high enough to see over the dashboard. Didn’t expect that issue in a Japanese car.

For a brand new car launch, Infiniti decides to not include Android Auto and Google Carplay... Big FAIL! The review ended for me there...
