Hi Darren...very good question. To put things into context, pre GFC there were 240 bareboats in the Whitsundays, now there is 140 bareboats. This happened due to attrition of old non-profitable boats during the GFC and a consolidation of fleets when the AUD strengthened against the USD (1AUD = 1.1USD). However now the AUD has lost considerable value against the (1AUD=USD0.67) there is a much more bouyant industry and yes strong demand for new quality boats. We could place up to 4 new Seawind 1260s as an example into the Whitsundays and other models of Seawinds and also Aquila power cats. Hi Bud!...like any business, there are risks and no guarantees, seasons ebb and flow and the tourism industry can be fickle. However having owned a charter boat myself now, i would find it hard to justify buying a boat without making it commercial. I don't feel guilty when i'm not using the boat and i never question spending money on my boat as there is money in the kitty to spend. it's probably the best maintained cat on Sydney Harbour. Bud Manthey Would you rent your car out to somebody, house, etc. There is always the true fact that Nobody treats your property like it is their’s when they rent. My family had a car rental business and you would not believe the lies the customers told us, and I mean customers with good credit mandatory with at least two major credit card companies and a bank reference. We would get calls from all over half of America from police telling us the car had been impounded, the driver arrested, DWI, drug deals, wrecked the vehicle, refused to turn the vehicle back in, it is always a trade off. The cops don’t want to hassle with getting an impounded vehicle back to the company because they make at least $150.00 or more a day while they have it in storage impounded. We have had calls from the police from New Orleans, Oklahoma, Daytona Florida, even the Texas/Mexico boarder, with people trying to illegally cross the border into Mexico. Maybe with boats it’s different, but if it was a money maker the bigger companies with the millions would be in the boat leasing business. Good luck.

@@VonBluesman There are plenty of holiday rental apartments that are a second residence that get rented - charter boats are similar. Sounds like you had a pretty extreme experience with car rentals. but never heard anything like that on charter boats in Australia. the charter industry and charter boats are highly regulated in Australia. there are plenty of large charter operations internationally too.. But if you are in it for millions rather than the goal of getting on the water and outcome of owning a boat it probably wont work.

@@VonBluesman Totally different scenario Von. Apples Vs caviar. You cant compare a $35k hire car hire with a $700k luxury yacht. Different clientele and rules around it. Of course if you could afford to keep your yacht exclusively to yourself, you probably would.

Brent Vaughan I agree, we had a different clientele, everybody with good credit can rent a car and you never know what the person renting the car is going to do, there are some here in the United States that rent a car to make drug deals because of what is known as the asset forfeiture law where the police can cease your money and your automobile if you are caught in a drug deal, by law, being in business we could not legally discriminate against any renters and deny them an automobile if they had good credit and proof of insurance or purchased insurance from the rental contract company. I am so glad we are out of that business. I watched a video on a catamaran in the Bahamas about a month ago where a guy had chartered a boat and struck the bottom causing damage to the boat and he said he did not care because he chartered it, thank goodness some people close by helped out by using a manual pump and then they got an electric pump to pump out the water and used torn strips of a towel to stuff all around the hole to help keep the boat afloat so he could get to the dock. It just aggravated me that he did not care, I hate when people do not respect other people’s property no matter what it is.
