Solo hunter here. Still have yet to beat Gogma in MH4U, but that day will come... eventually... in a galaxy far, far away... in another life... after I beat the extra worlds in The Lost Levels... which will be after I get a perfect on Remix 10 in Rhythm Heave n Fever... which probably won't ever happen, but I still want to do it... eventually.
+AnarickTheDevil lets hope not too many of the screamers maike it to Gen Ultimate cus their gonna get owned by the monsters being just so much harder and different in both High and G-Rank
I see a lot of comments on the QoL changes brought to MH World that people will miss going to this switch version. A video on what those differences are would be invaluable.
That video would be soooo long. I'm excited for this game most definitely. However it is not as good as MHW in ANY aspect imo. If I had to say one thing it has over world is definitely content. Then again MHW is just out the gate new still and much more large in scale. Maps don't load when you change an area, monster AI is way harder to create since the maps are wide open, graphically it's miles ahead, there just so many things, etc. There are alot of negatives going back a step to this game imo that people new to MH with World will not like at all. People whom world wasn't their first MH game will enjoy this game alot more imo than people going from MHW to this game. That's kinds like going back a step in every aspect. Kinda like Dark Souls right. I've played every DS since Demon Souls. Dark Souls Remastered comes out soon it's my favorite game in the series by far. I can't wait. People whom started the series with Dark Souls 3 tho, when they play Dark Souls Remastered it's not gonna be as good to them as it's just a step back in every aspect instead of forward. Kinda the same thing here. Instead of getting a new game with improved stuff were getting an older game that's gonna be missing all the improvements from MHW. This all sounds very negative, and in some aspect it is for new players to world. I'm jus guessing they will not like it near as much as someone like me who's played every MH except the original. I mean I own Xbox one X, PS4 Pro, WiiU, Gaming PC, and the Snes classic. I personally think the Nintendo Switch is underpowered junk with nothing but indie games, remakes, and WiiU ports. But I bought one yesterday just for this game alone. Was gonna buy one for Dark Souls Remastered but it can't run an 8 year old game past 720p 30 fps so I got it for PS4 instead. Then this was announced so I definitely had to buy a Switch then. I am going to be playing it just as much as MHW. I just say if your new to MH through MHW remember this came out before MHW and also on a much much much weaker system. Definitely not at first but give it some time and a fair chance and I think you will love it just as much as MHW. It also imo has some much more challenging fights too, and the arts system I loved.
gaijin hunter that’s what worries me. I’ve really enjoyed MHW and have a switch so the idea of MH on the go is appealing however I do hate the idea of dealing with painful qol issues. Never played any MH before MHW. Noticed from this video alone the monsters seemed quicker than MHW versions.
A big one is that MHW made farming a lot easier (or not necessary, in some cases). For example, in MHW you have one whetstone and it's reusable forever, but in previous games you had to farm whetstones and each one was single-use. Similarly, in MHW you collect tracks until your scoutflies eventually lead you to the monster, in previous games you had to know what areas of the map the monster lived in and check each of those areas until you found it, then you had to hit it with a paintball to track it on the mini-map if it fled, and paintballs were consumable (more farming). Also gathering from herb. mining, etc. nodes in MHW is instantaneous in most cases (you can usually just mash the button as you run past them), but in previous MH games you had to stop and wait for a ~2-3ish second animation to complete each time you harvested a node, and nodes could be harvested a few times each. I'd buy MHGU on day one if they would patch in some of the QoL fixes from World, but I'm 99% positive that will never happen and that alone is enough to put me firmly on the fence about buying it at all.
i started with Freedom Unite, but even Gen hit me in the nostalgia, going through the Arctic Ridge in more modern graphics, teh ice cave portions having partly transparent floors in the 2 winding-tunnel areas? that felt so amazing cus i remember that map so well from Freedom Unite, and it felt so awesome going back through it again, but i AM glad the Tigrex didnt show up to scare off all the Popo again, that was a bit of a shocker in MHFU :P but hey, that Tigrex taught ya how to GTFO right proper!
nah, wouldnt be quite the same, unless you plan to also go through the entirety of low and high rank again but yeah you would need a switch, thats the only real downside, i mean, Switch is an awesome system with tons of great games not counting MHXX/Gen Ult, and even more on the horizon, but its still a big expenditure i wont deny, i do wish they had released the 3DS version too, i woulda loved that cus i really dont play my Switch on the go, mine has an overheating issue which happens WAY faster in handheld mode, plus the system gets at most 3 hours battery life on the go anyway, which pales to the New 3DS line and its roughly 5-7 based on power save and wifi settings and i would love to play Gen Ult in the car on road trips which are often 6-8 hour drives, or 16 hour s if going to my grandparents cus they live fairly far away and we dont take the plane to go there anymore
Thank you, Gaijin Hunter. From August 2018 to January 2019, I had one of the best times I've had in gaming since the NES and SNES days, in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. This game was truly fun, especially playing online with family and friends, and even complete strangers that shared in the passion of this wonderful game. Your tips and love for this game made it easy for me to transition, since it was my first Monster Hunter game.
Monster Hunter Generations was my favorite Monster Hunter on 3DS, so seeing its expansion coming to the West is great, especially on Switch. Can't wait to get my hands on this game.
Its the first monster hunter that pushed me to actually complete the damn thing and go Grank. The others I always appreciated and spent 30ish hours in, but usually never came close to finishing.
Norton Family why was it better? I have both of them and think its very comparable but i love the hunter styles + more content. So definitely Generations for me
same. I was waiting for a good reason to buy one since none of the games so far blew me away, but this is it. Also generations is my favourite mh game and finally being able to play it with an appropriate controller and resolution is like heaven.
Yep, played MHXX on Switch and this one won't disappoint. If you have a Gen save even better because all that deviant armor can be further leveled into G-rank gear. I will be wearing Dreadking lvl 10 probably to get through most of G-rank.
i dont beleive everything does but alot of it does, and all the DLC Event Quests, Palicos and such do transfer, in fact i remember hearing thats the only way to get some of them in MHXX
Oh boy, the comments section war of Veteran fanboys vs World fanboys continues *grabs popcorn* In all seriousness, whats the point of arguing? If you like older-style monster hunter then stick with it. If you only like World then don't bother with the rest. Simple fix.
I like all MH games though, how do I do?! Will I end up with a split personality disorder, bitching between my two selves about wich is better? The horror!
Veteran elitists always arguing about world is getting pretty annoying, I mean I've played since Tri and I've loved all of them, gen less than the others but still liked it, and world imo would be the best monhun game if only it would have more content and a better endgame. They're all amazing games but some people always seem to need to argue.
Yoda Soda 06 I love both, but i feel it's unfair that people call world casual just because it's more accessable to new players. I hope this sells well like world did, that would help secure the future of monster hunter titles in the west
I was playing MHWorld last night, and I just don't have anything left to do. I got my 50 Arena matches trophy finally, I farmed a few Tempered Elder dragons for crowns and decorations, but it just left me feeling meh. So I'm really looking forward to getting MHGU.
Well it is not a surprise that the game is lacking content considering that its a new gen MH rather than just a retread of previous titles, but that is perfectly fine. I am sure you got your money's worth on MHW. Go ahead and enjoy MHGU but don't forget the free updates for MHW down the line.
Frenzied Unicorn Productions you just earned your Ignorant Dumbass trophy. All the updates so far have been FREE DLC. Deviljho, Kulve Taroth siege, new relic weapons and armor sets, crossover event quests and gear, Spring Festival, all that has been free. Take your Nintendo fanboy bullshit elsewhere.
Honestly you're missing out on a fantastic game if you don't pick up XX/GenU. No other game in the series lets you customize your playstyle as much as this game does, and it features some of the best fights in the series with monsters like Deviant Diablos and Valfalk (Valstrax). It will be a big difference from World, but it also features a ton of great QoL systems (you can easily farm Dash and Power extracts) and neat features like Transmog, so it's not quite as dated as people might lead you to believe.
i like doing gathering quests. i leave them for after fighting a ton of monsters in sequence so i get a little relax time. and you can also just not do them at all. the only gathering quests required to do are at the very beginning.
Coming from mhfu and currently conquered mh3u village quests on my way to solo all hub quests, knowing how huge and much nostalgia factors mhgu gonna bring is giving me sheer goosebumps. So much love goes into the game, it's definitely a tribute to all the veteran hunters out there.
Im so stoked for this. Had been contemplating importing or buying the one off the jpn eshop but the trial was hard to even play since cant ready ANYTHING and google translate is more hassle than just playing MHW. August is so far away
Zelda almost ruined World for me. Every time I hit an invisible wall in that beautiful landscape, I cringe a little at what could have been. It's still a great game, but I know freedom and walls will not hold me much longer.
I'll be honest, I played MHW as my first MH and i'm not kidding i've been saying since day 1 "I'd love something similar to this on my switch" and now that's it's coming i'm so excited i know it's not as "Casual" as MHW but i'm looking forward to the game a lot.
I'd actually say mhgen was the easiest monhun, because some of the hunting styles and arts really make the game easy, G-rank of course brings more challenge but it'll probably still be easyish. That and the tedious deviant monster grinding somewhat ruined the endgame for me but it's still cool as you'll get to experience almost all the monsters monhun has ever had.
ZOMB13SLAY0RZ I wouldn't call world "casual". Been playing since the first mh. So much stuff has been streamined and made more accessable so that new players van get into the series without feeling put off. A lack of g rank and monster variety doesn't help it either, but all and all it's just vomplaining without a real reason. I'd reccommend genU for sure, it's a great way to experience the roots of the series without actually having to go all the way back to the first game!
I have also been playing since the first mh and i would definitely call mhw casual. Its too easy and it lost me after about 2 weeks. I was disapointed in the game even with its qol improvements. You cant be a long time player and not be able to see that MHW was made to draw in a much larger casual crowd and wasnt made to please long-time fans,
LoLUnderstated I have and I can say that it's not casual. The morefluid mechanics and QoL improvements might make it feel casual to vets, which it can, but calling it casual is little more than an opinion, not fact. I have been playing for far longer than two weeks and have enjoyed world immensely. If you like the older games, that's great! All the power to you friendo! However that's no excuse to bash on World. Everyone likes different things and all that. I'll leave ya to it friendo, hope you have a great day! However... THAT TRANSMOG OH MY GOD WHY DIDN'T THEY DO THAT FOR WORLD MY SOUL ACHES FOR PROPER TRANSMOG
I think you sold me on this one. I have been unsure wether to get this one when it comes to the West (been a relative new fan, having played only 3Ultimate and Freedom Unite). I was a little salty that they didn’t bring World to the Switch, but the new additions to this game really makes me excited.
daverhodus that's what monster hunter used to look like before they tried to get the casual dark souls fan. they stripped monster hunter of its soul in world
I didn't feel the artstyle taking itself that much more seriously tbh, and the graphical gap probably has more to do with it than anything else. Same as weapon skins having more to do with an attempt to limit the budget than a conscious decision of making it more grounded.
Alex Kong Hey, they 100% NEED you to buy their new console AND pay for online, otherwise they -wouldn't have unneccesary money- would go bankrupt. 100%.
Yeah, I was like "no, It doesn't..." xD It does have all the PSP towns tho (Kokoto from MHF, Pokke from MHF2/MHFU and Yukumo from MHP3rd). Since I'm a PSP grandpa - those are more important to me than Moga and stuff xD
Day one purchase rite here, I’m also really looking forward to the Behemoth monster coming to MH World, can’t wait to see what kind of armor and weapons you can craft front it..
I think it's awesome the reception the announcement is getting. Obviously we all love MHW but it's pretty awesome to see how much the fandom is geeked over the announcement. This was the #1 thing I wanted for my Nintendo Switch and I'm stupid happy to be finally receiving this! Cannot come soon enough!
@@abyssalrayz9499 Temporal Mantle doesn't do Adept Style justice, since you can use the effect only 5 times and you don't need to dodge by yourself, the mantle does that for you already.
Thanks for doing this video since I was looking for some good impressions of what the game has to offer. Seeing as you like MH and produce great content, you've earned yourself a new sub. I'll buy a switch just for MHGU - since I'm a fan of the series but kinda lost interest after the whole handheld only titles. MHW brought me finally back, first on PS 4 and now on PC. Really looking forward to MHGU, this'll be fun with all those monster to hunt.
Why to get it? For anyone who started with world, it's not because of "MHW too ez bruh" or "Muh g-rank" but the simply the amount of content and variety that has steadily build up over so many MH games.
I'm so excited. Back when World was announced I was excited that i'd be getting a monster hunter on my ps4 and switch but then they said they had no plans on localizing XX. Now that they finally announced it for the west it's actually happening. Loved world but 4 ultimate is still my favorite just due to how many different monsters there were, not to mention g-rank. Can't wait to go into this one on my switch, only thing that sucks it is comes out the week before my semester starts ughhhh.
Surprised on how few MHW videos you popped out with. I cannot wait for this, I generally do not like to buy the same game twice but this will be easy. Also I hope that since this is coming to the west as well the future versions will be more like Gen, than what we got with MHW as far as flavor is concerned.
Acbo Necky are you sure about that? What's the process? I bought it in a japanese account in the switch, i didnt want to import a second physical copy of the game
Thanks for the great review. Do you think you could release a day in the life comparison hunt for hunt between MHW and XX? That would be great for people starting on world.
i wish there was this much amount of content in world sadly there isnt and they just keep pushing colab gear and 1 new monster with 1 returning deviljho
I went out and bought a switch for this game because just the trailers and gameplay alone brought back a lot of nostalgia from when I was like 9-10 years old playing freedom and freedom unite on the psp with my buddies (we still play World now but we’re all getting Gen U) till like 5am on the weekends. Not only was this series my favorite game series of all time, but it was a big part of my childhood and I get any new game they make without hesitation. World was fantastic and I got to HR 200 in it but the weapons and armor disappointed me and the lack of bat shit insanity that all the other games in the series possessed just wasn’t enough to keep me grinding for those streamstones. I’m so pumped for this game
i don't need reason to buy Me BUY IT YEAHHHH oh so many monsters hope capcom not make some kind of Smash bro game with monsters in this game fight each other
Thanks gaijun hunter for these series of videos about MHGU! I know MH World is its own thing right now but its downsides for me is its not portable. Having this one on a cool console like the switch is its own form of happiness even though it is a bit of step back in generation. The content you say is enough to get me sold haha. Happy hunting, keep up the good work, you've been very entertaining and helpful!
pooftiger yeaah, and I just feel that MHGU on the switch is a great monster hunter experience that I could bring anywhere haha. I can't take my pc out of the house.
Why would you want to play it on an older handheld with a smaller screen? I'm way happier to get this for Switch. Granted I was able to throw down for the system after selling my old systems and game but NO REGRETS.
nein Don’t worry about it bro. You just saved COUNTLESS hours just on G-Rank. The reason I haven’t gotten World is simply because I don’t have the time it deserves for that game.
The thing is even in Generations we had something to make up for the lack of G-rank, which was the special permit quests. Granted, not all of the lvl 10 ones were that tough but depending on which deviant you were hunting it was a challenge very similar to G-rank difficulty. An example would be lvl 10 Hellblade, to me it felt akin to later difficulty G-rank 1 (Online) or early G-rank 2 (Solo).
wanting to try an older mh a week or two ago, I downloaded Freedom Unite and played it for a bit. Earlier today I tried the saber tooth wyvern monster in the JP demo for XX and found that I started in the same zone you get your training in for FU. That was really neat, and if a lot of what XX is gives off that kind of feel, then I think it would be a really cool "greatest hits" type of thing for new players like me to jump into. Also, playing the JP XX demo, I realize how much I prefer hunting monsters when all the crazy foliage, fogs, particle effects, etc. obscuring everything just aren't present. World is very pretty, and I enjoyed the heck out of it, but it's graphical amusement park of stuff hurts readability imo.
I’m so hype, this summer I’ll actually be able to purchase it. I finally have a job, so money is no longer an issue. I can’t wait to see the polished graphics!!!
extremely informative, definitely wanna get it. imma a total newbie, ive only played 3DS demos and MHW demo but MHW didn't have that kind of visual charm the franchise usually does, very pretty but still. i wanted the full MH experience so i was more into getting MHXX. now if i can get a MH game with MHW character creator with classic MH artstyle for its graphics together that be nice.
Biggest reason for me is it's not on the 3DS. I have the 2DS XL which is the newest and most comfortable to play on, and I can only play for 20 mins at a time before my hands are cramping like a MF.
*sigh* I wouldn't have minded if it came for 3ds....but switch only??? seriously? screw it im just gonna go hunt for relics again in MH4U till MHW comes out for PC. Still need a 1728 raw GS anyways.
So glad I watched this! I was really in doubt whether to get this as I already own Generations, but the fact that it has G-rank makes it more than worth it. Also, WHITE FATALIS
AAAAAAAAND sold. definitely buying it. I love the massive variety of monsters, and I'd love to just see how monhun was before world as world is my first monhun.
Mhgen on 3DS but MhgU on Switch? I guess im considered trash tier nintendo fan for not having the switch in the first place T_T but damn I wish they hadn't ignored the 3DS for this release.
When I bought my switch last month I didn't buy because of the games that it had, I bought it because of the games it was going to have and now MHGU has neatly added itself to the top of the list of my anticipated switch titles. Can not wait!
If it's one thing previous Monster Hunter games have over World, it's weapon/designs. World's iron/bone designs are so boring. Well that and music, but World still has room to add more monsters/new and returning themes.
*Looks at video* MY GAWD MY EYES HAVE BEEN SPOILED! Still getting this though, will mostly miss the fact that i can once again be thrown out of the map area, otherwise gonna love having an overwhelming amount of armor and weapons to try. Glad they bringing the transmogs in as well so u can be stylish and effective!
I'm a Prowler main in MHGen. High-rank Shagaru? No problem, it was just like the MH4U days. High-rank Seregios? We beat him so handily even the wild Deviljho turned tail and fled. Nakarkos? ...we're still working on that one.
The Anime Thats Shits on DBS to each their own I guess. Each game has its ups and downs. 3 brought the games to nintendo systems but the water levels sucked, 4 was actually really good but it was only on 3ds and generations was insanely awesome but it had so much to do it was overwhelming. World is bringing the games back to playstation but it also kinda dumbed the game down for us Americans. At least world made the games popular in America
BMB Adventures: I believe the phrase "generally easier" would be better for World than "dumbed down" as the character you use has better mobility, gadgets like mantels and not flexing after drinking a potion. Previous Monster Hunters have a better variety of monsters but dont have some of what World has in other ways. Everyone has their own opinion about what they prefer and I just hope those who started with World enjoy MHGU if they decide to get it.
I guess just wait for the inevitable Monster Hunter World Ultimate that takes all the awesome QoL improvements of World and adds all the variety (and G-Rank) expected from the Ultimate expansions.
G Salemander I know! I'm still a far way from getting a Switch, and not hearing anything about the 3DS version made me sad and even a little salty. Hopefully it gets announced during or after E3...
Why would anyone prefer this game on smaller 3ds when Switch got a bigger screen portable and docked? I want this for my Switch. Ask your moms for a Switch for your birthdays
BOTH OF YOU *P A I D O N L I N E* plus its already out on 3ds in Japan, and a team already translated the UI so that proves that it isnt hard or expensive, Nintendo are just bieng greedy cucks to get you to buy their new system, and pay for their online service. I'm just gonna play the Eng Patch on my 3ds.
I think my decision to buy mhgu was definitely influenced by sns oils. I douse my gear in oil and light it up. (Bring them back in the future or at least something similar please) It makes the sns expierience so much better. Hunting styles were cool to me too as when I played rise, the switch skills changed the way I played but hunting styles just felt more grand and epic imo.
This is great! I can continue off my journey from Monster Hunter Generation to Monster Hunter Generation Ultimate! It’s good to start off good and experience brand new you haven’t face before! Especially G-Rank? That’s literally the ultimate challenge! I am looking forward to get Nintendo Switch and the Copy of the game!
Started out my monster hunter experience on MH4U, got addicted and went back to Tri then MHG, half way through Gen, World came out, absolutely loved MHW! And now i'm excited to see MHGen out on HD! It's like Zelda, there are no bad zelda game and I love everything in the series, same can be said about MH.
Hey Gaijin and Community, can you help me out? I'm a huge fan of the MH franchise since Tri. I played every MH game since Tri. I also bought MHGen, but only had like 20 hours in it. Bought it right after MH4U (where I had 700+ hours) and was kinda fatigued and never touched MHGen again. Played a whole lot of MHWorld the last couple month (250+ hours). With your MH experience and my MH background, would you consider buying a Switch for MHGU worth it? I feel like I missed out on a lot of action and fun with skipping MHGen. Thanks for your help!
Here's my thing is there more than ONE game you want for Switch? If so go for it or are you interested in the Future in Nintendo Switch with upcoming games? If so go for it. Note you can transfer your MHGen Save Data or you can start anew... It is completely up to you. If not just keep playing World and wait for updates.
Ugy Boogie my opinion is no I don't think it's worth it buying a $300 system for a $60 game I love Monster Hunter but I need to have more games before I spend that much money on a console and it's a okay game it's just an expansion of generations so if you didn't like that game too much then you're definitely not going to like double cross I suggest play Generations some more and see if you really like it and if you enjoy it then you should look into investing in a switch
While I'm one of those people that will get the switch in part due to MHGU now that it's been announced, I already planned to get it originally, albeit in one or two years, so MHGU will just speed up the process. Buuut, like others said, if there isn't anything else you might be interested in with the switch, it may not be worth the cost of the console. Then again, if you end up clocking the same amount or more time on generations than you did on mh4u, it dampens the financial impact of buying a new console.
It really depends on you! and well money to buy the system of course If a system has a game I want that I don't have I'll research what other games would I be able to play on it that interests me The switch already has a bunch of games worth having! Ports of games you may not of played , HUGE amount of great indies and of course the 1 party games that come and it's all can be played portable and not locked to only your tv Also MH Tri represent 🙌
If you don’t have a switch, then no. GX is much more of the same as gen with 2 new hunter styles. If you really didn’t like Gen, then this game by itself is not worth the investment on getting the Switch. I guess that also depends on how you feel like G-rank will factor in your enjoyment. If you’re interested in getting other games the Switch has to offer, then yeah. But for this game alone? No.
I’m coming in a little late to GU and honestly, I’m excited anyways. I played the first NA release back on PS3 and I played Tri when it released. Got back into the series with World and have loved it. But now I’m constantly traveling for work and carrying my console everywhere isnt practical. But with a switch it is. I’ve honestly not been this excited in a long time
Jorge Guevara. I envy you on that. My budget is tight, so I can't afford shredding three figures on a console that I'd mostly use just to play one game. I did that for World, but that's where the line will be.
I like world but its the little things i miss like the responsiveness of the dodge roll, and how much more arcady this kind of is mh game cant wait for this
